UEFA CL DAY 1 QUICK REVIEW

CELTIC 0-0 AC MILAN

AC had most of the chances in this game. Celtic will be hard pressed to progress through to the round of 8. They have a mighty task ahead of them. I believe they desperatly needed to capture some goals at home. Playing the next match at the San Siro behind closed doors will be a hard game for players to get motivated but if you can't motivate yourself for the CL then you don't deserve to be there.

LILE 0-1 MAN U

MAN U Pretty much dominated the match and finished off the plucky Frenchies with a Giggs goal in the 83rd. The only real item of note was the apperent uproar over the games safty after altercations with policy and fans escalated. UEFA is currently launching an investigation into the saftey concerns.

PSV 1-0 ARSENAL

Edison Mendez nets the winner for PSV in the 61st min. PSV were on the heels most of the night and in all honesty had no business winning this match verses a superior Arsenal side. In the 65th min Sun Xiang became the first Chinese player ever to play in a CL match.

REAL MADRID 3-2 BAYERN MUNICH (GAME OF THE DAY)

Van bommell kept the German side within sight of advancing with a stunning late goal to bring the away goal rule possibly into play after the second leg match in a fortnight. Madrid got off to a quick start with two goal from Raul. The first was a cheaky flick into the net after a save attempt by Cromagnon Kahn. The Lodge's favorite Dutchman scored off a Beckham free kick to make the score line 3-1 in Madrid's favor going into halftime. After the start of the second half the momentum switched and Munich turned on the pressure and Madrid looked lost. Munich might have done just enough to move on. Away goals are huge in this competition.

  1. Nice recap, Train. So are we getting together for a Lodge viewing of Day 2? I'm totally down. I have the car and everything. No cabbies this time.

  2. KROM!!!I'm tied up until about 830 or 9 tonight...but would be down with at least one match...

The Munich game was classic...with 1st team Internationals at almost every position for both sides...Real showed some classic signs of brillance in the 1st, but current signs of lack of concentration in the 2nd...I can't really see how Real is going to get the advantage in Munich in two weeks...Ze Fahzerland's Club Side is going to box 'em in and play classic Duetchland futbal and try to create that 1-0 result that will push them on to the Quarter's...

I have to disagree with you Train on the PSV result...if you watched that game...Arsenal played just like the Scousa's did during Group Stage at PSV...playing for the non-result instead of at least one away goal...PSV on the other hand played the counter-attack extremely well and kudo's to the Dutch sides's defense...kept their lanes and never let the Gooners make their patented late charge...now Arsenal is in a bind, because I see a 2-1 or 1-1 result at the Emirates...

Obviously didn't watch the other two matches and haven't even read about the Celtic match yet...however, I can tell you this...after this year...don't look for "The Mastiffs" from Lille Olympique Sporting to be competing in the 2007-2008 UEFA Champions League...I can't believe after all that's gone down in Italy that this continues to happen...and I love Giggs-y showing the classic form from the Free Kick...note to the kids at home...you want to be revered in the beautiful game...start picking up tapes from the Welshman's career...

  3. Jimbo, I got to be honest I feel asleep watching the PSV game after watching the Real game.

I was reading reports of the game and the take was that PSV was lucky.. I will have to go home and rewatch the game. Yes, I know I'm was full on pants...

I have to agree that Bayren will go thru against Real. German's know how to build a wall for defense. Last nights game was a real : "Return of the Becks" He was awesome last night. His free kicks were cracking. He had some mind blowing 40 yrd plus crosses right to the feet of his striker. I tell you now he will be playing against Isreal..And if not, the FA needs to be over hauled.

I am down for watching games tonight whatever the hour. Though I would perfer to watch the Chelsea match. But majority rules in the Lodge and both match ups look to be quality. The Barca game has more intrigue.

  4. I have something that the majority of The Lodge will be interested in seeing......definitely warrants a gathering.....

  5. The FA needs be overhauled regardless of the Becks decision...I say if they "WANT" to make it to EURO 2008...they're going to need him on the squad...besides...let the chap get to 100 caps and see where it goes from there...

and I think the term "luck" is going to be involved whenever a team like PSV outscores a team like Arsenal regardless of where the match is played...the bottom line is Arsenal played liked they weren't really interested and the result shows...I put the blame on #14 who put on his typical big-game disappearing act last night...

  8. Zidane Doc? You ripped it off the internets? If my hunch is true... then you are to make copies and be there tonight. I'm not asking... I'm demanding.

  9. Hey, hey, hey now....."ripped" it off? C'mon there big guy....don't go all callin' people names now.

Yes...'Zidane - 21st Century Portrait' is now in Seatown's possession. I haven't burned to disc yet....but god bless it, I will soon.

Only problem being....no way I can be there tonight. I'm going to LA tomorrow for work and I have to get packed and everything tonight....so we're gonna have to do it next week sometime.

  10. I just hope when you return from LA we can all pass it around the lodge .... Shawn that was a big aquisition on your part.

I love the simmering soccer passion starting to brew in you Shawn.

  11. We can pass it around.....I'll get everyone a copy....but I would like to watch it with everyone if possible. Or do you all need some "alone" time with it?

  12. I think Train will have to get about 5-10 minutes of alone time...along with his John Terry Wallbanger...

  13. I think a "Seatown in the 310" post should be required. Its been a while since we've had a Lodge roving reporter.
