Let’s try this again/ AGAINST ALL ODDS Week Two

When last we left our hero he was busy going 0-7-1 last week (Thanks Hawks!!!) and wondering if I jinxed myself by starting a column. Well, probably, but that’s not going to stop me from cranking a few words out about the games this weekend.

My hope now is that I continue my winless streak and everyone knows to bet against the Lodge Guru. So as with last week, we’re using the opening lines from this site And picking 4 ameteur and 4 pro games.

You ready Al? (trying the beard this week) Ok let’s go:

College:

Local #2:

Men of Troy(-20.5) at Men of Montlake, after last week and not hitting the spread on the road against UCLA and the D not looking like they’re going to hold USC under 44 either, this could be a long night…still, my heart says Dawgs, but my head says SC….going with the heart….UW+20.5

WSU(+2.5) at The Tuscan Wildcats, not sure why the Cougs are getting points in this one, could be the make or break for Stoops and he’s shown in years past a knack for doing just enough to keep him employed…going with the ‘Cougs +2.5

Top 25 action:

Cal (+4.5) at The Eugene Green Hole of I-5…nicknamed “Can they both lose Bowl 2007”, I supposed someone has to lose and I love the speed of Cal, but not sure they can run consistently to keep UO off the field, end of the day I think Jackson/Longshore are better than Dixon/Stewart…Cal +4.5

Wildcard:

Commander and Chief Trophy

Air Force (+3) at Navy, down year for the Middie’s, giving up a lot of points to bad opponents, always a pride game, with the Falcons on the losing end the last couple of years, like the Academy from Colorado Springs…Air Force +3

Professional:

Hawks(-1.5) at SF…payback from last year, will be the opposite of the open-ended game last week. If the Hawks D can stay off the field and get Smith to throw the football they should be ok, V. Davis is out and Matthew knows this is the “set the tone” game for the division after what happened in Glendale…Hawks -1.5

Denver(+10) at Indy…Colts back in the dome after two good away wins, ‘Cos stuggling and should be 0-3 at this point….P-E-Y-10

Pittsburgh(-4.5) at AZ…a bit of a teaser here…is there some insider knowledge? Not sure it matters, The Steel Nation looks confident via air and land, and QB by rotation is the first step to the unemployment line….Pitt-4.5

MNF:

John Edward Thomas Moynahan’s father(-7) at Bengales…not sure on this one, so I’m going with the o/u, which is set at 52…and I’m going 52+, over…

Hope to be back next week at 0-15-1…

I love the technicolor busted out for this one. I'm about 50-50 after dissenting most of your picks the first 2 weeks... in fact, give me a minute to go check my tally...

Okay, since the only game I agreed with you was the Aints @ home (+ the Dawgs, who I can never bet against) & NO obviously sh!t the bed, it looks like I'm 5-2-1 after the first week.

Let's look to improve upon that record this week:

NCAA:

I've already stated that I can't bet against the Huskies... so it's Udub for me to cover also.

Again, I agree that Wazzu will cover... banking on the fact that Zona will look like D-2 players after coming off the loss to USC.

Not liking agreeing with you so far, Jimbo... so I have to go against you sometime and as much as I hate to say it, I'm going with the Ducks to avenge last years loss to Cal and continue their 7 games home win streak against the Bears.

I'm agreeing with you on the Air Force also. Man, I hate agreeing with you. Let's stop doing that ASAP.

NFL:

Going with the Hawks here and Shaun Alexander's praying. Although I'm thinking Shaun's tool of a pastor in Casey Treat is jinxing his play every week.

Denver still has a good defense. I love that everyone is forgetting this. And this week I think the Co's will figure out the offense versus an overrated Indy defensive front. I'll take the points.

Taking the Cards at Pittsburgh. 4.5 is a lot of points. Especially when the coaches for Arizona were on the team they are playing. They'll know the strengths and weaknesses of the Steelers and know how to beat them.

I'd take the over too... although that seems too easy. I think we have to pick a line here, Jimbo. So I'm taking the Pats to cover against a beat up Bengals squad.

Joe, Denver does not have a good defense... 200+ plus yards on the ground the past two weeks means only this... Denver fans will not have to worry about waiting in line for playoff tickets.

Ya, I screwed up that pick pretty good. I love their CB's though... the loss of Al Wilson is extremely evident on the field right now though.

3-4 going into tonights game. I shouldn't have agreed with you and taken the Midshipmen instead. It's clear I really don't follow College Football though.

That's why that was the Wild Card game, although I should've known The Middies weren't going to lose that one...tough pick...nice rebound after a bad first week...worst case scenerio is .500 this week...
