RIP: Seattle Supersonics

I'm still reeling from the Sonics leaving Seattle news that finalized yesterday afternoon. Adande mentions that the team is willing to leave the SuperSonics' name, colors and history behind -- with owner Clay Bennett said "I was always amenable ... to reserving the name for Seattle fans." Even that quote pisses me off. Basically he's admitting that he wanted to leave all along. I haven't really hated many people in my life. Clay Bennett is one of them.

With the gavel finally coming down on the side of the franchise, now I have a seemingly unthinkable decision on whether to follow the surprisingly well-run Blazers squad down South in Portland. Did anyone see the draft? I loved me some Jerryd Bayless, even thinking the Sonics messed up by picking Westbrook over Bayless at #4. Everyone praised them for picking Rush, but then they upgraded their point guard position (the only noticeably weak link on their team) with the draft day deal.

The memories of my favorite team will remain. Unfortunately, so will the pain of that team leaving thanks to a shady back room deal between David Stern and Clay Bennett. What a douche. I want to pul an X-man and strangle them both. I'm feeling myself moving towards the darkside with these events. Hate leading to anger and all...

Sorry...gotta take issue with your commentary bro....

NO self respecting Sonics fan can post about grief over the events that have transpired....and THEN...in the same post....go on to discuss the P-Town draft.

....I wish I could move on that quickly. I'm sure that your Bayless jersey will be under the tree for you this year.

You shit on my house man! You shit on my house!

Unfortunately...I've been down on the NBA for several years now...a little bit more every year. Now...sad to say...really don't care.

I respect the game and the athleticism of the players, and I always will....but the NBA has got some serious issues in their overall league operations. The sad part is, even if they somehow...I don't know, get their shit together (?)...won't really make any difference for me.

Why am I picturing "..and NBA message...the Sonics sleep with the fishes..", as someone unwraps a giant dead fish...wrapped in a white Sonics jersey.

I feel like someone died. I DO care....it sucks...but I don't care about the NBA. They can suck it...pretty much forever.

I was commenting on how well they did in the past few drafts. Just throwing a bone to Jimbo because I thought he'd reply and post if he saw it.

I'm suuuuuuper angry about it though. Seriously, I named my fantasy basketball team name this past season, "F*ck Clay Bennett".

Suck it. I agree, Shawn.

hey all this fighting is what the NBA wants out of Sonic fans.

I think overall, Seattle wanted their money. There was really no concern about the fans of the Sonics.

Don't worry, the relief for the fans: they won't take the team name, the colors and the history.

Is make it okay. I have to agree with C-Town. The NBA has some serious issues. To allow a team to leave the 14th best market to go to the 45th ranked market or something, is that a smart move? Is this for a quick short term revenue? I think before I become a basketball fan again, things need to be done in the NBA to a) not all this to happen and b) to care about their fans. I think JA Adande said it, the NBA can't show commericials in which is says the NBA cares!

sorry I've been absent for a little while, had to deal with making some money when my unemployment ran out, but luckily that job is over and back in familar/upgraded confines...

couple of points:

*I'm surprised there was no love for Percy Allen's amazingly insightful blog about each hour of the court case. It was after day two or three that I realized this last ditch effort was being run by a low grade version of Harry and Lloyd,

I believe the final tally for objections was Sonics: 557 City: 1

*The blood is on a lot of hands, which has been mentioned here ad nauseam since the day the team was put on the open market, but ultimately that's what happened. The greatest comedic moment of this whole process is the upcoming Schultz "good faith" lawsuit that has about as much ground as Kevin Durant retiring in OKC.

*On a personal note, after years of estrangement and nasty late night phone calls, the NBA and I have started to reconcile and we've been talking about getting a place together thanks largerly to Kevin Pritchard finally understanding how to spend Paul Allen's money. I'm excited to be able to watch the majority of their matches next season and hoping that Capt Calabaro is considering a move to PTown and if not there, maybe to TNT.

*Sorry for the Red and Black towel waiving in the face of Green and Gold tragedy, but ultimately rich, greedy, bastards will tear the heart out of the average person sooner or later. The difference is I can continue loving the game and the players and the owners will always be bastards.

and 2.0 I saw Bayless drop 30+ on the Dawgs this past January...hell of a scorer and distributer, not sure how we got a top 5 pick at #13...thanks Basketball Jesus
