Rocky Re-signed
John Clayton is reporting that Rocky Bernard has re-upped and re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks today. Good news for Hawks fans. Apparently the deal is a three-year, $13 million deal that included a $5.4 million signing bonus. Plus, Peter Warrick re-signed too. That leaves Lawyer Milloy and possibly kicker Josh Brown as Seattle's remaining priority free-agents besides the Steve Hutchinson situation.
Now, what to do with the Hutchinson situation? Of course, with the extra $10 million dollars in cap room, thanks to the new CBA, Seattle has room to match. Seatownshawn previously mentioned the tricky language in the Vikings offer that Hutch must be the highest paid offensive lineman on his team in 2006 or the entire $49 million is guaranteed. Crazy ass clause. If it's true, that could make something that once was an easy decision (in matching Minnesota's offer) a much more difficult one.

Hutch...I love ya and all, but no guard is worth that contract. Period.
He's just a guard...and I think that the extra cash could be used in other ways.
I'm with you on this one MCP...the problem is...you have to fill that position with someone...and you're past the point where a rookie can come in...unless you move Womak to LG and draft a RG...either way, its unfortunate, but let Minn take the bad contract for a guard...he's good, but he's not Larry Allen good...good to see the Rock back in the middle of the D line though...gettin' the band back together...
Here's what the markets looking like for Free Agent Guards:
Corey Hulsey - Raiders
Derrick Dockery - Redskins
Fred Weary - Texans
Grey Ruegamer - Packers
Jonathan Goodwin - Jets
Kris Dielman - Chargers
Montrae Holland - Saints
Ray Brown - Redskins
Reggie Wells - Cardinals
Scott Kooistra - Bengals
Sean Mahan - Buccaneers
Stephen Neal - Patriots
Tom Nutten - Rams
Toniu Fonoti - Vikings
Tutan Reyes - Panthers
Tyrone Hopson - Lions
Vince Manuwai - Jaguars
Vince Manuwai and Derrick Dockery seem to be the two best Guards available behind Hutch on the market.
Nice...I heard about the Rocky deal on the radio at lunchtime....nice reporting Joe.
Man, I have to say....I am just really, really disappointed with this whole Hutchinson situation. That is the only way I can describe it. We COULD match the offer....but I am just taking this a little bit personally. If he wanted to be here, he wouldn't have signed an offer sheet that put the Hawks in this position. So, unfortunately...I have to say good riddance. I'll stick to my original comment...."Have fun freezing your $49 million balls off"....only now I'm tempted to add "biatch" to the end of it. Damn I'm pissed!
We need to use the money elsewhere. It's pretty clear by the free agents that are visiting HQ this week, that the team is serious about strengthening the 'D'. If we can get a couple guys to be reasonable with their asking price, we could be looking at a dominant defense 5 months from now....and THAT gets me excited.
I'm not too worried about the offense. We still have the guys to get it done. Not to take ANYTHING away from Hutch.....but imagine how much better you might feel if you were brought in to play LG next to future HOF member Walter Jones. That has got to amount to something.
Damn...I love the Seahawks! I just renewed my season tix....and next season we get the AFC West, just like old times.
Go HAWKS!
I think you get a senior citizen discount on Ray Brown
Well, the Raiders signed Fonoti already. He was the most attractive to me on your list, TP... because of his run blocking skills.
Of the remaining OG, I'd rather move a OL down from the right side of the Hawks line. I agree with Jimbo in that you should move Porkchop down to LG.
Remember, we have Chris Gray at RG and Sean "Restraining Order" Locklear at RT already, so moving Womack down to LG makes sense, both in keeping the line familiar with one another and fiscally. Leaving money to sign a impact free-agent like John Abraham.
Sorry Joe, but John Abraham has been franchise tagged by the Jets...we're only getting him via a trade.
Okay, so I used the wrong terminology. We could "trade" for Abraham with a 2nd round pick (which is reportedly what NYJ wants in return).
Womack might be a tough move to guard
A guard in this offense needs to be mobile to pull and trap. Womack seems to be less agile than some other players.
The poison pill clause from what I hear is being investigated. You can't delibrately put something like that in a contract. I believe its against the CBA.
Goose, I heard that too. Apparently the Hawks are probably going to file an appeal to the league to look into it because of the CBA.
I'd look for them to go for the old standbye in Ray Brown for 1-1.5 mil as a stopgap and draft a OL in the first 3 rds in this years draft if that clause can't be removed from the Hutch deal.
Ray Brown is 82 years old.
What's your analysis of the old guy? He was a Skin. Does he have anything left in the tank?
Not sure if anyone will even see this....but ESPNews reports that Lawyer Milloy has just signed a 3 year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Gotta love the hometown discount on that one......
