Sunday World Baseball Classic
Amazingly, I wasn't playing Warcraft or reading on Sunday afternoon and I actually spent most of it watching the World Baseball Classic on ESPN2. Obviously, time well spent.
I went off to my favorite bar/grill restaurant Fort St. George. Got to the stool and its U.S.A. vs. Japan on the tv's. The game was tied 3/3. Japan had one out, bases loaded. The japanese waiters just keep on mumbling to themselves while staring at the t.v. how exciting this game is. So I take heed, a sacrifice pop fly goes up, 3rd base runner takes off after the catch. Japan takes the lead 4/3, but wait... the home plate umpire says "He's out!" After that its interpreter action as the Japan Team coach has to get the samurai sword out. But the thing that was really shizzy was that play cost them the inning and the lead. Also, the 2nd plate umpire said that the play was good. As we say in poker: BAD BEAT. I'm sure the ump did it for Pearl Harbor. Still, Japan manager Sadaharu Oh said Saturday he was impressed with Angel Stadium and its natural grass, calling the facility "beautiful" before adding "MLB ballparks are the best." At least it was scenic for him.
It got down to the 9th inning and it was it was bases loaded for Ken Griffey Jr. OH SHEEET, taking it old school. He tried to go for the glory, and I sooo wanted to see him do it. His little kid biting on his hat from the dugout and me biting on my chopsticks. It was down to the wire with two strikes, and then it just hurt so bad, the ball came through high and fast and Griffey just swung the shiz out of it and got nothing but air. After that Gay-Rod came out and won it for the USA.
I think strangely the weird team to watch out for is Korea. They're undefeated and just Oldboy off the chain. They knocked on Mexico last night 2-1, upset Japan previously, and are just cruising through this series. Overall, Japan got what they deserved, just reparations for WWII, beating on the US, invading Korea, now only if the Philippines could play in baseball again without cheating I'd be happier.
Thank you for enjoying this limited Duke sports commentary moment.

Mark my words friends Sadaharu Oh will make someone pay for this.
This man is a baseball god in Japan. He has forgot more about hitting home runs then Barry Bonds will ever know.
I too sat and watched the game. It was a great contest with Ichiro hitting a homerun and seeing the USA down by 3 runs before they came back to eventually win.
The issue that needs to be addressed is amatuer umpires. That play should not have been an issue and the umpires should have been in position. I think on the first view it looked that he took off early but after further review, you could clearly see that it was a bad call.
Yeah for USA but you got to love the Japanese game!
