Brooklyn Hoodies

So i got into work at 5:30am today. I am tired and sleep deprived. Later on, standing on the sidewalk with a bummed cigarette, I saw Train. He seemed perturbed and had that odd shocked stare you get when you see someone you know thats changed horribly and can't avoid them. My unshaven face and crackhead hoodie, walking past the homeless apartment building to the corner store with my crooked marlboro light square. My blank loose stare filled with gloom and uncertain threat. Train had to let loose a quick smile to deride the emotional chasm dividing us. So that's how its going. And that's my vent among other things, I will soon join Train and Jimbo in the wonderful peninsula of West Seattle and begin college. To add into the joyous occassion and somewhat melancholy weather of life I hope to brighten the day up with a quick mention to the most heartwarming movie America will see this year.

United 93

My feelings on this are with other black hearted Americans. I'd like to see it and it hurts but I'm depressed over domestic and international circumstances and like many suicidal crackheads I want to feed that pit of doom. I'm sure we've all heard about the people in Manhattan who left the theatre sobbing and thats completely understandable. But Universal Studios is a blackhearted group, they are the same people who brought you the glorious Chronicles of Riddick and something called Serene T? They refuse to pull the film from screening. Its being directed by Paul Greengrass the same person who channelled The Bourne Supremacy into a quick fight fest. Can we expect the same empty violence filled content? Who knows, sometimes looking at Matt Damon in that film was like looking at the blank dead stare of an angry cow. Their work together has spawned filming for the next blank stare The Bourne Ultimatum. It was cool seeing Train though, happy note.

yeah...you can't honestly judge a person prior to 9am and/or first stimulant of the day...I like theDuke representing the 935 soon... you're one of us now, not one of them...just means more card floppin'...

Part of the reason that I love this country is the love/hate relationship that I have with the First Amendment...I love it when NWA rhymes: f' the police coming straight from the underground I hate it when Michael Savage ...well whenever he communicates verbally...either way it helps to make me tolerant or intolerant of both sides of pretty much every issue...that being said...

United 93 does nothing about any issue...where's the f'n 10 year rule with national tragedies? did know one else catch that South Park?...what specific good does this movie do?...have we all forgotten about the events of that day?...I can still remember things about that day more vividly than my wedding day...do we not remember Todd Beamer? the Patriots? Let's Roll? ...what purpose does this serve?...the only way that Universal could possibly do this right is by taking every single dollar made and either donating it to the families or investing it into bullet-proof vests for the soldiers dealing without right now in a place I like to call: America's fist dabble with the creation of Hell on Earth...(hopping down off my soap box)

Please don't go see this movie...thtat's all

Do people have the right to make a film like this? Yes. Does that mean I need to go see it? No. Sad fact is I think this movie is going to do very well at the box office. The TV movie they did about flight 93 on A&E had the highest rating ever for that channel. This is the same people that brought you Horatio Horn blower which is a Lodge favorite. There is a market out there for historical Disaster movies.

My sentiment is this, that day will be remembered forever by anyone who has access to any form of media that day. Those images are seared into my mind. Anytime I see a plane making that arcing turn around the city skyline on the way to SeaTac I think back to that day. For me something like this is better left to the history channel and the non-fiction section any bookstore. If you cannot provide more in site to the tragedy or give some details that haven’t been chronicled to date then there is no need to make a movie. What is the social relevance? Are you just giving a recap of the events cause we all bloody hell know what went down. Do you need to show the privet conversations between loved ones? Is the culminating scene “Lets Roll”? Cause I don’t need a movie to tell me how Americans can fight back.

I would rather see MI:3 then this movie… and that is saying a lot.

Outside of the whole Tom Cruise factor...I think MI:3 is actually going to be really good.

JJ Abrams is a pimp. The guy was a co-creator of Lost for crying out loud.

The writers are credited as being the writers for that old Goonies II video game for the NES!

3 Words: Philip Seymour Hoffman.

And actually, the rest of the cast is pretty solid outside of the freak...
SIMON PEGG!! (Shaun of the Dead)
Billy Crudup (Almost Famous, Big Fish, those Mastercard Ads)
Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang)
John Rhys Meyers (Velvet Goldmine, Match Point)
And Ving Rames & Lawrence Fishburn

good point Train...and MCP...I didn't know all that went into MI3, which has the making of a Last Crusade comeback from the incredibly awful MI:2...WOO SLO-MO DEATH WILL KILL US ALL...

Yeah...I think John Woo jumped the Shark with MI:2.

It was almost like it was directed by someone doing a really bad impression of John Woo. Awful stuff.

I'm still undecided on my thought for United 93. Difficult topic? Always. I think the 10 year rule is even kaiboshed on this one.....this will sting for anyone that was alive on that day and old enough to remember.

The one thing I can say is this, they did not proceed with this movie until they had the approval of 100% of the family members of the people that died. That says something to me. Does the issue that these people are "heros" need to be hammered home one more time? ....probably not. But I do think that it is significant that everyone involved provided the director with so much access.

That's huge that 100% of the families passed off on it...and it's not so much that the story is being re-tolded, because I think it ultimately is important to reinforce that event in the collective conciousness of this country...my issue comes when I look at who is creating the narrative?...this is not a non-profit organization that is speaking for these families...

This is Universal pictures, big-budget Hollywood that is looking to profitize off of these families tragedies...its unfortunate that the families gave their OK to be monetarily exploited in such a way...but, is this any different than a film made about the Holocaust, Pearl Harbor or 'Nam?...I knew this was Oliver Stone's fault

I didn't know about the 100% sign off. Great research from my #1 draft pick. I'm not going to see the movie though. I haven't watched a thing on TV or video about 9/11 since the unforgettable day I watched people jump off friggin buildings because they thought it was a better alternative... then watch Jimbo leave work.

By the way, Shawon... I found that book you and Mel wanted to borrow. Stop by my place on the way home from work to pick it up if you want. I'm working from home today.

I have no intention to see this movie. It's still a raw wound, and I think people have the choice to see this film, don't bitch and complain about it being made. Make a choice and either see it or don't.

As for MI:III I'm interested. The PSH factor is huge and what I have read about it is positive.
Woo's Impossible was tough to watch but it had some good action scenes but even the best film actors of all time couldn't make this film good. I'm surprised the Scientology people didn't kick Tom out of the club.
