Draft Dodgin’… Not this guy

You want to know if you are a true football fan. I can give you a one question litmus test. Which are you more jacked up for a) the NBA playoffs b) the NFL Draft? If you answer to the later then I imagine you are starting to hunker down in your own version of the “war room” Not only will you need to have plenty snacks and iced brew on hand but you got to have the stamina to take an all day onslaught of Mel Kiper Jr. and Chris “he could go all the way” Berman. Now if only they could cram Dick Vitale and Hubie “he’s so long” Brown up on stage somewhere the UTC factor would cause TV’s to blow across the nation. That would be reason alone to watch.

The place has changed but the atmosphere will be all the same, the rowdy New York crowds going to boo long and often when the Jets make there picks and a few Philly fans will make the presence felt when the Eagles draft at number 14. The true die hards are the ones that come back for a second day of picks. Heck, the Commish doesn’t even bother to show. Speaking of the Tags, Look for the first mispronunciation of a players name when someone drafts Mathias Kiwi-ikisomething. Tags should really take to Stern and get some tips on how to pronounce those pesky foreign names. We will miss you Tags.

Personally I love the players that attend the draft and play the who’s gonna be last in line and look like he wished he stayed in school or came out last year. I have a sneaking suspicion that Matt Leinart and VY will be fighting for this crown. We could see a Leinart face in the making, the face one makes when he realizes that he should have come out the year before, when he had the world in the palm of his hand. Does anyone else see a slight hint of old USC quarterbacks in Leinart? I do. Adding to the long list of crappy USC quarterback in the NFL. Thank you Sean Salisbury, Rob Johnson and Todd “we found half a joint in the parking lot” Marinovich. Odd to think that Leinart might even end up in Oakland, what I am really looking for is AJ Hawk and some nice shots of Brady Quinn’s sister. I think we might even see her looking at wedding magazines at the table. She’s gotta be chomping at the bit to get that deal sealed before AJ has his lawyers send over the pre-nup.

The draft is blown way out of proportion to its real relevance. ESPN has made what is really just a crapshoot for anyone drafting out of the top 5 into a circus. A circus that I enjoy and wouldn’t miss it for anything… Well I can do without the later rounds but heck; I’m not doing anything on Sunday.

Here is a look at the 6 players I want to see wearing the colors of my favorite teams, Yes, Jimbo I can like two teams….

Broncos
1 De’Angelo Williams – RB Memphis
2 Maurice Stovall – WR ND
3 Joe Klopfenstein – TE Colorado
Seahawks
1 Kelly Jennings DB Miami
2 Ko Simpson – S South Carolina
3 Jeremy Bloom- KR/PR Mogul Skier Colorado

Train, throwing in the bitter marraige barbs in his post. Classic. You gonna watch the entire first round, Jordan? I'll probably try and catch the Hawks pick, but can't commit to the all-day ordeal.

Interesting call on Jeremy Bloom.....but anything is an improvement for the Hawks.

It is amazes me to evaluate the position the Seahawks are in going into the draft. This is uncharted territory here....we are SOLID...coming off of a Super Bowl appearance...we used free agency to acquire some depth....man, we are sitting pretty as far as I'm concerned. Ruskell's skills were already validated last season...so let's see what he can do when our biggest concern is our return game.

GO HAWKS!

Special Teams are 1/3 of the game.
On average there are 5 punts for each team (Meaning 5 returns as well), also 7 Kickoffs and 7 Returns. Thats 12 plays where the game can be changed.

Who's not going to be a Jeremy Bloom fan come September when NFL games start up again? That guy is electric. He reminds me of Peter Warrick coming out to FSU... a little small for WR, but always dangerous on the returns and in the flat.

He reminds me more of Michael Lewis, the KR/PR for the Saints. (The guy who drove the Coke Truck)Small in size, but gutsy.

All I know is that it's hard not to love a guy (Bloom) who's wish growing up was to run onto Folsom behing Ralphie...

First time I saw the guy play he ran two punts back for TD's. He has speed and can cut avoid contact. Those Skiing skills have helped him with his lower body movement while keeping his torso straight. He is Tim Dwight turned to 11....

Interesting News......

Ricky Williams has to sit out the 2006 NFL season for failing a fourth drug test, but a Canadian Football League franchise is making a pitch for the suspended tailback.

The Toronto Argonauts placed Williams on their 35-player negotiations list, which means that they own exclusive rights to contact him. Argonauts assistant GM Greg Mohns spoke to Williams' agent Leigh Steinberg on Thursday.

They have more liberal drug laws in the GWN. Ricky should fit right in...

Bloom hasn't played football in two years...he's worth an end of day one pick, but some GM is going to jump the gun on his skills in the second or third round...I paid too much for this muffler!...

We'll have to make a GWN trip when Ricky comes to visit the BC Lions...and why is that whenver there's a big signing of a Footballer in Canada its always from the Argo's?
