Typical Front Office Upside
Hey, I'll add to this NBA Draft conversation, but my rant has turned into a post, so here goes. Yes, I watched the entire first round as one of the remaining 19 die-hard NBA fans out there. The Sonics & the Knicks were the bone-heads of the group. Plus, I agree with Runnin' Reb' Greg Anthony in that the Blazers didn't need to make those moves to get the guys they wanted. Maybe the TWolves move if the TWolves really wanted Roy, but if they did why'd they trade his rights so quick? Weird. The draft-day workout-wonder upside-potential projects still were picked above players who have proved themselves in the NCAA's. Amazing how GM's still are seduced by "upside" when so few of picks based on potential ever truly pan out.
The Sonics f'd up because they took another 7 foot f'n project from the Euro leagues in the kid from Senegal in the abnormally large picture in the post below this one. Apparently Wally Walker loves them Euros. Why get another center when you drafted 2 in the last year that each looked decent when you invested playing time to them and were a benefit to your team defensively in Robert Swift, then Johan Petro? ESPN is reporting that there is a real possibility that the Sonics move this pick & that the Suns & Jazz have both been hot on the trail of Sene. I hope this rumor is true.
Just ludicrous moves. The Sonics clearly should have taken the best player available if the two clear 4's (Sheldon Williams & Ty Thomas) were off the board. They passed on Marcus Williams out of UConn(who will be a good pro PG and better short & long term than Ridnour, I'll say it now), Rodney Carney out of Memphis & a pure-scorer in Ronnie Brewer. And why not trade the pick? There were teams that wanted to move up for another pick, which was clear with all of the draft day trades. Did Wally have his cell-phone turned off? Does he even own one?
Although I love that our boy Roy is going down to be with a coach in Mac-10 that will utilize him the way an NBA team should, there were waaay too many questions that answers in this draft by the Blazers, Knicks and Sonics. And as a Sonics fan, I'm pissed. And the only prescription might be more cowbell, because Bruce Dickenson isn't coming to save the SuperSonics any time soon.

Have Wally call Goose. I'll hook him up with a cell phone
Wallyworld = SHUT IT DOWN
I can't even rant anymore about the effin' Sonics man....if anything that they do now is ANY SURPRISE TO YOU, then you haven't been paying attention for the last several years. This isn't anything to be pissed about NOW....because we should all know that this is becoming par for the course.
I'll agree that I didn't understand moving Thomas for Aldridge for PTown...Thomas dominated Aldridge in the NCAA's...but, whatever...I love dumping Telfair and Ratliff...even if it meant picking up LaFrentz to sit on the PTown bench...I'll agree that right now PTown has a crowded backcourt, but when you only win 20 games in a season...is shaking things up really a bad thing?
I think Mac10 is hoping that the combo of J. Jack/S. Rodriguez (SRod)/J. Dixon/Dixon works at some point...I'm sure you could also pair Webster&Roy also...but, Webster is still a year or two away from filling Mac10's idea of Defense, they'll have Aldridge at the 5 and 4 along with Randolph....outlook...I think Roy already adds 5 games to the win column...that's Blazer optimism for you...
As for the local 12...my god...what the hell is wrong with R. Carney, who at worst would have a career as good as Sene...at best would be S. Marion 2.0...guess the Supes have the luxury of stockpile garbage at the 5 spot...who knew?
oh and the bigger the flop...the bigger the draft day photo...
J.Jack will start at PG now, and SRod will stay in Europe to work on his game for a year. Plus, an added bonus is they call him "Spanish Chocolate" in his home country.
Dixon is the perfect 6th man off the bench, I'd love the Blazers to start B.Roy at the 2... and check back to see how Webster's doing in 2 more years. They need to deal Randolph and D.Miles and clean house... Mac-10 won't put up with those 2 again. You know Isaiah would take them. Why not get some expiring contracts from the Knicks and give them both up. It'll free up cap space and get rid of the whiners & convicts.
I still want your thoughts on the Blazers & Sonics rants above, Jimbo... but I wanted to make sure you caught the SG's Draft Diary too. My favorite line:
Stu Scott interviewing Bargnani without an interpreter working for either side. This is fun. Bargnani sounds exactly like Furio on "The Sopranos."
I had a nice comment written up 2.0 , but blogger didn't save...basically Miles is garbage, Randolph is an All Star player in the East with a lot of teams as options...and damn Mark Cuban for completely overpaying for LaFrentz and keeping the Blazers on the hook for another 3 years...
good site team cap information...for a good time look at the 06/07 roster for the Knicks...hahah
amazing...Allen Houston is going to make $20mil next year...and there best player Crawford, makes less than Shandon Anderson...
oh...and Grant Hill is getting paid $16mil next year...
The Clippers trading for Cuttino Mobley's contract is one of the worst for me. Unbelievable.
Chicago is looking good. Man, they cleaned house and have a solid young core. Getting rid of Eddy "Heart Attack" Curry for two #1's was a coup. They cleared more than 30 million bucks in cap space after this season ended!!! That's crazy.
It just goes to show that there are only about 10 legitimate GM in the NBA right now...and the fact that Simmons isn't one of them is ridiculous...just give him the C's for two years...what's the worst that could happen...it would also make for good columns
Has there been a worse contract per dollar than the 7 year 93mill contract that Grant Hill signed?
I think is might be the worst contract in Sports History
