Dutch Debacle
Joe Mikulik might never make the bigs as a manager. But he made the highlight reels this past weekend. The minor-league manager had the greatest tirade of any baseball skipper I've ever seen Sunday. Hopefully, you'll get a chance to see the video (video linked under "AP Video" in the page provided here) because words don't do it justice. Lou Pinella would be proud.
I seriously felt like throwing a fit like that during the refs absolute crap-fest of an effort during Sunday's Netherlands "loss" against Portugal. The game's highlights were that four players were sent off, a record for a match at the finals. The news reports from other sources including ESPN say it all, I really feel no need to go into detail about all the fouls, red cards, yellow cards and who got what... suffice to say it was an incredible end to the World Cup for the Netherlands. Maniche was a one person wrecking crew on the Dutch. I don't know what it is about his game that Orange has a hard time figuring out... he should not be as tough to guard as Ronaldo. Marco Van Basten didn't mark Maniche well, and I felt his decision not to play Ruud van Nistelrooy in the match showed his inexperience as a coach.
So now I guess I'll drink. With Holland now eliminated, I'll come along side Jimbo to drink & root for England to advance past this same Portugal squad on Saturday and maybe see some revenge fulfilled. Saturday's match is a 8:00AM PST kick off -- are we meeting up for another Lodge WC gathering? We'll bring 2 bottles of champagne for momosas this time around. Anybody up for it? Who's place this time?

2.0...Train and I were both pulling for the Orange, in fact we had similar reaction during the latter stages of that game and the England game...the decision on Ruud really was unforgivable...especially for the weak sauce that is known simply as "Kuyt"...playing 10 on 9 and 11 on 10 for the amount of time that the Dutch had, there is no excuse for not scoring at least one to stretch the game...
The biggest loss is that we're not going to have the Dutch/England game that I wanted, instead I have to see C. Ronaldo take dives ( I want him dealt from Old Trafford) and Figo pull his veteran moves (head-butts)...I'm glad there's no Deco, and hope that's the advantage that the Brits need...they're going to have to show a lot more pace and fitness to overthrow the Portuguese run...we'll see...
Alas, I will be in Mason county for the kick-off, the St George will be hung and beer will be served prior to kick-off...I hate that we've only gotten two quality viewing session as a Lodge in so far (one for me) ...we'll have to arrange another for the Semi's and Finals'...
Jimbo, glad to see you were rooting for the Dutch. Even if it was only to see them play against England.
Train? You in? Shawon Dunston? Buehler?
Sorry....I replied to the wrong thread. I'll check into a Saturday AM appearance, but I can't commit right this second.
