Man of Legacy
Frank RIBERY (FRA) "We thoroughly deserved tonight's victory and were able to make the difference at all the right times. Spain are an excellent team and that makes me even happier to have got into the next round. "
Frank Ribery is an enigma. Last night he was undoubtedly the hero that brought France back from a possible Waterloo against the Espanol with his 41st minute equalizer goal. It is strange that so little information can be found about Ribery online. My research leads me to believe he is the progeny of a small clan of unsung heroes in the world. Their pasts shrouded in mystery but their courage and ferocity shining in the face of adversity. Is he the victim of hate crimes from an earlier age? Was there a mortally threatening accident that turned around and gave him a new lease on life with an inspiration to play soccer? Or possibly he saved the life of a dying child in a fire, and the childs last wish before passing was that he live the kids dream of being one of the best footballers on earth. Who knows, but what I do know is that Ribery is not the first of his kind we have seen.
In 1985 we were given the valour of a Lotney "Sloth" Fratelli. He was pent up for years by by an abusive and nefarious family of villains. Fortunately his crystal heart was unshattered as finally there came the time when he could prove his worth and live out the dream of truth, justice, and the American way. Yet again, an example of the worlds forgotten people living in the shadows until they can triumph and shine.
Again in '85 we were given another dose of closet heroism as the Toxic Avenger came to save New Jersey from crime, pollution, and cronyism. We do know a little bit more about this off the beaten track hero, he is really a Melvin Ferd, another face of neglected society, beaten by bullies and his parents alike, yet finally given the opportunity to fight his way through with a mop and his mutant strength; also very willing to hang with the ladies.
Coach Raymond DOMENECH (FRA)"There are 23 players in the squad and I don’t want to single anyone out. Ribery stood out tonight and tomorrow it will be someone else."
Indeed there will be a time when someone else stands out and we hope it will be another hero in the mold and shape of Ribery, Sloth, and our Avenger.

Look at Duke throwing Goose a bone.
That might be my favorite post since the Cup began and will be in the running for post of the year...excellent work Duke...gold star for the day...
I still don't know why Ribery looks like he thrown out of truck.
Let the record show that Goose has not said one word in complaint about the Lodges World Cup coverage. (Although it is becoming like ESPN and Barry Bonds hitting #715)
I have expressed my opinions and will not restate them,. Its now off to the Golf couse for a "Work releated function" the rest of the afternoon.
Damn I love my job some days.
Good post by the way Duke.
So what does one win for the Post of the Year Award?
We should get a traveling trophy
Reference to Goose post 06.26.06:
Gentlemen,
I understand that the World cup is in Full swing and that the Lodge has a huge sports theme over the last few weeks. But this Lodge was also built on TV and Movies and we lost a Hall of Fame Member over the weekend with the death of Aaron Spelling at the age of 83.
Is that not a remark of disgruntledness?
Duke digging the archives for evidence. Love it.
We'll create some categories and scour the archives around the 1 year anniversery point...winners will receive various prizes and take home gifts provided by various local businesses...example: the free glazed you get a KK, I'll pick one up this week for one of the prizes.
never thought I say this...but I'm starting to miss the MCP's geek posts...it's like getting a tumor and having it removed, then finding out that you really wanted it after all...
or something
I somewhat agree. Annoying yet somehow you learn to love them. Kind of like a retarded child.
...
or something.
LOL -- is MCP on leave .... or something?
Duke. While I respect your Skip Bayless Style investigative reporting. I was simply pointing out that the World Cup should not overshadow a famous death in the "Pic of the Day".
I think I have been extremely open and supportive for the World Cup this year, even attending a Lodge gathering for a US game.
So...in the immortal words of Teddy Duchamp.
"Bite my ass, Choppy. Bite shit. Come on Choppy"
But we need not rehash that argument today.
My group shot a 73 (5 over par) in a best ball golf tournament today. Man Im beat.
Good night John Boy!
I read in between the lines ok. None of this factual nonsense.
Its all good Duke. Rule #84 Section 5 of the Bible of the Lodge. "No hard feelings, unless you are pissed at 2.0"
