Good for the Weather
I'm going audio on you guys. On October 3rd the album Friendly Fire was released. The artist is Sean Lennon, son of John and Yoko. I do recommend it.
As a Beatles fan its hard to deny that as a whole, and John individually, stamped a human attitude onto their music for the modern era. With Sean's own work and by his own words he stands against the opposition that exists simply because he is John's son. A recent interview on NPR gives a brief look at how he felt about growing up, the album, and how being artistic is natural due to his environment. By itself, the interview is extremely interesting.
The tracks are often slow and melancholy throughout Friendly Fire. The lyrics still are deeply moving and heartfelt. I don't want to say "emo" because I really hate labelling it, but you really feel haunted in a cross between the blues, Portishead, and Postal Service. Some of these tracks are available on the npr site and a couple more on his myspace page. Surprisingly, he threw down a couple instrumental/synth only tracks that would serve well to lounge on through the gray mornings with a coffee or cigarette.
The sense that I get about Sean Lennon from what I've read and what I've heard is that he understands the complexity of culture his life is surrounded in. He does right by not following what most celebrity children would do, but what choice would he have to rebel since both his parents were the biggest counter-culture icons of their time? His music is good, and it does deserve a chance.

I got a chance to see lil' Lennon a couple of years ago...not really my speed, but there's not deny the quality of the music and depth of his content...but, like you stated, it would be impossible not to have those things based on his pedigree...so what the hell happened to Jakob Dylna?
Dylna? ohhhh Dylan.
Yea, Sean doesn't pop out albums for fun. He's a real serious cat- there's a lot of focus towards what he does which is especially clear in this album. I didn't want to say it was Beatle-esque, it is; but really what artist does not have the imprint of the Beatles in their work.
I downloaded rhapsody to listen to the full album on my Friendly Fire link through Rolling Stone, RealNetworks is not on point with this product.
It's funny the first time I saw Sean Lennon was when he and the Wallflowers were opening for Pearl Jam.
Coincidence? I think not!
"Who are the best two rappers ever? Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan!"
Big Boy...you just gonna sit there and do your taxes? Is that what's going on in the hood now? Taxes?...
Potentially big news brewing on the YouTube front.
that would be awesome. it would also get the claws of Rupert Murdoch away from the masses.
Nice scoop, Shawn. Welcome back to the Lodge!
I am ready to be "back".....I've been a bit absent lately.
Does anyone mind if I make a belated Chi-Town post just so I can share a couple pics from last weekend?
