And the off season begins.....

Here is the list of Seattles restricted and Unresricted Free Agens for this year, and my own opinion on what to do with them.

Unrestricted free agents

TE Jerramy Stevens; Should be resigned. There are few TE's on the free agent market that have his talent or potential, even with the drops.
S Ken Hamlin; Cut
WR Bobby Engram; (See DJ Hackett)
K Josh Brown; Franchise him. It will only cost you 2.5 mill a year, and he is worth it
OG Chris Gray; Needs to be top prioity. he will resign or retire. He has a year or 2 left of good play. Could get a hometown discount
KR-RB Josh Scobey; He should be resigned. Valuable special teamer. However Keep Nate on KO and Punt
FB Josh Parry; Cut
TE-FB Will Heller; Keep. He has 2 years in holmgrens system and provides solid depth
DE Joe Tafoya; Keep. Solid special teamer
OG Floyd Womack; I like chop. however he hasnt played a full season EVER. Check the Market before resigning
LB D.D. Lewis; Solid backup, however will he stay healty. He could be cut
CB Jimmy Williams; Cut. Sign a Veteren CB. They are always out there.
CB Pete Hunter; Keep. He's a bargain and imagine how well he would play if he had a camp to learn what to do
LS J.P. Darche; Keep. You cant have too many valuable special teamers
LS Derek Rackley; Cut
DE Kemp Rasmussen; Cut
LB Lance Laury.Cut

Restricted free agents

WR D.J. Hackett; If you can keep both hackett and Engram then sign both. If you can only keep one, I'd resign DJ. He has impoved every year
DB Jordan Babineaux; Depends on what he is offered on the market, since he is restricted you have the right to match any offer
RT Sean Locklear; Keep. Solid RT. He may be valued on the market. See what he is offered
DT Craig Terrill; Keep. Good depth on the Dline especially with tubbs injury
LB Niko Koutouvides; I saw him miss 3 blocks on Punt team. I think his days are numbers. He provides no Depth, and litte help on the special teams...cut
S Oliver Celestin. Cut

I can't believe you want Oliver Celestin and Derek Rackley cut?...your losing your touch Goose...

seriously though...I'd be leary of the Chop...that would be the upgrade position for me...I think everything else will go like you mentioned, however, I can see Hamlin being straight up cut...I'm sure there's another team (Arizona) that is looking to pay him too much money...

and it's a sad state of affairs for the TE position when J-Steve is one of the top 3 available in the off-season...extremely sad state

I think we should keep J-Steve as well....he actually BLOCKED really solid in the Chicago game....so maybe his "soft" days are over.

I like the breakdown.....and after re-watching the tape of the Chicago game....I gotta say that Will Heller BLEW IT on a few KEY PLAYS.....so I'm tempted to have him take it to the streets, but you are right. Cooler heads should prevail and he should get more consistent.

I think that this season illustrated how high the importance should be on retaining Locklear's services. We had so many injuries this year that a lot of the young guys got substantial playing time....so we shouldn't have to worry too much about next year being a 'transition' type year. Sims, Spencer, Locklear....Walt.....I like it.

Also....in very disappointing news this morning.....it appears that Matt Hasselbeck will MISS 6 MONTHS due to a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. This really hurts because it means that he will miss the mini-camps that could've been SO valuable in developing chemistry with the newer receivers. It also illustrates how much of a freakin' WARRIOR Hasselbeck is....and how much pain he played through this season. (Again illustrating how much he got hit because our O-line was a revolving door not unlike the left field postion for the M's).

good work CTown getting in two shots for the price of one on that last sentence...and I wouldn't be too worried about the Warrior missing mini-camp with the receivers...unless the O-line gets some continuity and depth...Wallace is going to need the practice time, further proving the need to keep his favorite target: #18 from the Mountains of Boulder, CO

I think they also need to address the backup RB position and instead of filling it with a scat back...perhaps also fill it with a bigger, younger back...that will help allievate the 350 carry burden for #37 that he obviously is not able to maintain anymore...

Good call on the backup RB position. However while i agree that signing a "non Scat back" is the way to go. I wouldnt mind seeing a verteran back instead of a younger one. Maybe a Chris Brown from Tennesee or Dominic Rhodes from Indy.

I'm leaning towards drafting a RB that falls to the 2nd round in a deep NFL draft next year. Say, a Michael Bush from Louisville. That man is a LOAD.

Do you really want to draft a RB in the second round since we have no #1? I guess in Joe's world we have the luxury of tossing away draft picks

JK Joe. seriously. Drafting a RB with our #2 pick would be a good call. Really
