The Train of Death (Goose Edition)

RUSTON, La. -- Eddie Robinson, who sent more than 200 players to the NFL and won 408 games during a 56-year career, has died. He was 88.

Robinson at on point was the winningest coach in all of football, passing the legendary Bear Bryant. Robinson set the standard for victories, going 408-165-15. John Gagliardi of St. John's, Minn., passed Robinson since then and has 443 wins.

"The real record I have set for over 50 years is the fact that I have had one job and one wife," Robinson said.

Highlights of coaching career:
- In 1949, Robinson’s former player Paul “Tank” Younger signs a contract with the Los Angeles Rams to become the first signed by the NFL from a historically black college.
- In 1959, Grambling joined the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), of which it is a member. The next year, Robinson’s Tigers captured their first of seventeen SWAC championships or co-championships.
- In 1966, the Football Writers Association of America cited Coach Robinson as the person who contributed the most to college football for the past 25 years.
- In 1971, he reportedly had 43 former Tigers in NFL training camps.
- In 1984, Robinson was poised to become one of the most winning coaches ever. After surpassing Amos Alonzo Stagg’s 314 coaching victories, Robinson tied legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant’s 323 coaching win mark with a 23-6 win over Oregon State before becoming the best ever the next week with 27-7 defeat over Prairie View.
- In 1998, he received the NFL Players’ Lifetime Achievement Award, Four Honorary Doctorate Degrees, including Yale University, 1997 College Records include: Most Career Football Games Won (408); Most Games coached (588); Longest Football Coaching Career at one College (56 years).

Robinson's pro stars included Willie Davis (HOF), James Harris, Sammy White, Willie Brown (HOF), Roosevelt Taylor, Charlie Joiner (HOF) Albert Lewis and of course...Bronco Killer and super bowl MVP, Doug Williams.

Football lost a class act today. Goose will spend the day in mourning, at the loss of one of his hero's.

Eddie. The Lodge bids you a respected farewell with our highest honor, a ride on the Train of Death. First Class.
