She is the singer Shiina Ringo. -- Likely the most emotive uncommercial Japanese singer on the pop scene. And, come on Joe... why would anybody interview their own wife -- thats what forced marriage counselling is for.
Ichiro's wife is somebody else, they walked by me downtown with some super high-tech silver athletic clothing on. Most of the time, Ichiro is with his mistress in Seattle. This is from J-news. Oddly, Ichiro is rated the #1 male popstar for the last 3 years in a row even though he doesn't play there. (yes they have a ranking system - middle page)
Ichiro is basically talking about how he has this awesome baseball mystique thats on par with the mysticism surrounding Prince.
***all i can really interpret is he mentions the mariners, and is making a comparison between their professions for the thought/passion involved. ref: "amazingly fun", "...motivation...", "wonderful that you know that...", "its very interesting..."
Better content interpretation: Ringo and Ichiro talk about various things, including how Shiina Ringo’s song “Superstar” was played during Ichiro’s baseball introduction in 2006, and ever since then he has been infatuated with the song. Shiina Ringo admires Ichiro and had written the song “Superstar” with Ichiro in mind. He then wanted to meet the singer who wrote such a song, and that later spanned out into a series of intervews between the two, including this one.
Post inteview information: Ichiro claims to listen to Tokyo Jihen’s “Adult” album everyday, skipping the song “Superstar” because he feels awkward. At the end of talk show Ichiro asked Shiina Ringo about a recommendation of a song for when he goes to the batter box. Shiina Ringo answered that she will consider to compose a new song for that purpose. So we may hear a new song from Shiina Ringo later in 2007. -- Ringoran
so he's really talking about how her music motivates him and how their thoughts parallel.
That's probably way more than anyone should ever learn about that interview. Although the Ranking System was cool... how is the hot-dog eater Kobayaski not on that list?

Devo, this video has been posted before. Sorry, buddy.
ARGHHH!!!Fine, Ichiro actually speaks complete sentences in this one and talks about the Mariners.
A few things... 1) I've never seen Ichiro talk that much in my life. Is that his wife? I know she's a TV anchorwoman. Can I get a translation?
2) The singer is wearing a sock-puppet. I'm just saying...
3) What's with the extreme closeups on the singer's neck? Crazy Japanese.

Sock puppet is weird? Her video's are almost 'Bjorky'.

I believe Ichiro is the first sports member of the "Advanced-Theory" Hall of Fame...right next to Val Kilmer and Lou Reed...

i'm just helping the lodge in the asian trivia department.
Kobayashi can't make the list because he was shamed.
He did take on a bear in an eating contest.
A F***'IN BEAR!
My favorite part of that is that Michael Buffer MC'd the event. Classic.
