Morning Round up… No frills, no links… just news

Monday Lodge Topics:

Big Defense gives Hawks the edge in home opener:

The offense looks a little rusty to start things off. Shaun looks as if he can’t remember how to hit a hole. The defense plays hard and knocks the wheels of a Cadillac. Nate B reminds us why special teams are so important.

I sense a theme:

Big D powers UDUB to dominating win over BSU:

Jake throws for one and runs for another TD, the D puts the handcuffs on a potent BSU offense. Can the boy in purple keep the momentum up in their showdown with Ohio State?

63 at Cog Hill gives Tiger his 60th career PGA win. Roger Federer wins the US Open. He know has 12 Grand Slam Singles titles.

These men are not human!

M’s come home broken and bruised after a long road trip.

They now play 14 of their final 21 games at home. Do they have enough in the tank to grab the wild card?

England wins 3-0 against Isreal. They now have a must win match on Wednesday.

Gerrard is match fit. England is scoring goals again. Is it enough to make EURO 2008?

I hope this is a new addition to the Lodge...I love it!!!

my take:

*line opened up at Dawgs +4, it will be interesting to watch this line move during the week...I think its an extremely flatterning line considering how far apart these programs have been for the past 5 years

*Hawks still in the mode of showing up for about 55-60% of the game and realizing they have more talent...not sure that's going to get you the NFC title though...still 16 weeks to go...

*Is anything more predictable then Tennis? seriously, where's the democracy? where's the fight? where's the beards? I can't fully commit until I see a move back to the golden age of Connors and Mac...I'm all for sanctioning only wooden rackets and chuck taylors...

*big win by the three lions on Saturday...and amazing Train...how did they do it?....oh shit...it was by mixing the overachieving U-21's with the underachieving Senior team...love Richards and Barry on the right side along with Bentley...now if they can get Foster healthy...Russia will be a tougher test, but that's still a match where your talent dictates you walk away with three at home...if not...playing in Mother Russia will have a little more meaning...

• It’s to bad we don’t play Michigan this year. I do think that OSU will be overlooking us. I see a major upset in the works. Yea, I said it.

Well tennis is tennis. It will never be the same as the matches from our youth. It’s really a lost sport and never coming back, well that’s my opinion. Marketing and money have taken all the personality.

England showed some heart. They had the table set for a real let down. Now, I didn’t get to see much of the game. I loved that mix of youth and experience. I loved SWP getting in on the action. Mother Russia and her Astro Turf actually don’t look that hot. I watched some of the match against Macedonia. Which I didn’t realize was a country. I always thought it was a region kind of like where Alexander the great was from. Who Knew? All I know is their team wasn’t great and they still gave the commies a run for their money.

I got to watch the Italy/France match… it ended nill nill but wow what entertaining match. The match was rough and hard fought just like it should have been. France seemed more comfortable but they just couldn’t unlock the Italian back line. I believe Setanta has Scotland/France on Wednesday. Winner of that match should have a place in the finals.

Lastly – I watch some Rugby World Cup this weekend. Man that is a rough sport. I had no idea what they were doing but I respected the effort and power. It’s a sport I could get into.

Tennis shouldn't even be discussed in the Lodge. I propose we give it a lifetime ban.

Train, I did catch the 2nd half of the Husky game. It was on the DIRECTV dish in our workout room. Missed all of the scoring, but they looked good. Man, Locker has some wheels! He frickin turned the corner a couple of times and looked like a tailback running. Color me impressed.

But I wasn't able to see the Hawks game, but saw brief highlights after the game. We looked good. Defense was solid, I concur Jimbo. Not sure why Neon Deion didn't get more involved. Is Ronde Barber still good?

Didn't catch the England match, but the reviews were excellent. Don't forget that Holland won 2-0 over Bulgaria to move closer to moving on also. Ruud is back on the team and scored for the Orange.

Good work Train.

Goose is in mourning today. After a 27-6 halftime hole with turnovers and penalties against the defending conmference champions, we roarded back and cut the lead to 27-19 before giving up a late TD, losing 33-19 to start 0-1.

Press Conference and game summary will be in the Knights blog tomorrow.

Sorry for the delayed commentary.....I was offline in Bremeloo all day yesterday.

What a frickin' beautiful fall weekend in Seatown. Even though I had to travel to Wenatchee on Saturday night...just to turn around and come back at 7 am for the Hawks game.....it just doesn't get much better than that boys. Very sorry to hear about the Knights start to the season....but wow, beautiful 80 degree weather....lots of tailgaiting and big W's all around. Wow...just wow.

Missed all of the 1st round of International action.....I'll check out the mid-week games though. Still thinking about the fantasy team 'overhaul' before the weekend....but we'll see.

Good weekend of Fantasy Football....a couple big busts coming from some higher picks....and the Shaun Alexander bashing just never stops, and what did he do on Sunday? ...oh yeah...only 105 yards and a touchdown.

And what's with the bad attitude towards tennis there 2.0? It's a difficult sport to dominate...which is what Roger Federer is doing/has done for some time now. Maybe I will start doing some sort of weekly tennis update just to make you happy....go ahead and ban the tennis talk if you must....but I would propose that it is 100% OK to talk about hot tennis females whenever time allows.....

This just in...
Just heard Bryce Fisher has been traded to the Titans....

This also just in...
I didn't draft Deon Branch so that Hasselbeck wouldn't throw to the guy. What the frak is up with that?

Sucks about Bryce. I think that one of the true strengths of the defense this year is our depth....and here they go trading it away.

Also....news that the Seahawks have traded for Cleveland Browns QB Charlie Frye.....hopefully to free up Seneca to do a little more that just waste away quality athleticism on the sidelines.

Let the Brady Quinn era begin!

I've not seen this many trades to start off the season since the Tomniska Blast of 1909.

Monday Night Football:

I have to admit I like not only the 49ers new look D (be afraid Seattle) but also their new retro uni's. Was that to honor Bill Walsh?

That Patrick Willis kid is an animal. He laid some licks.

For that matter both the Zona and San Fran D's looked good. But was that just because both Alex Smith and Matt Leinart looked like they couldn't hit the broadside of a barn?

I wasn't that impressed with Zona on Offense, although whose is this #32 and what did he do with Edgerain "2.9 ypc" James...I think they finally perfected the transplants from Sixth Day...

I'm with you Train on the retro 9er uniforms...that's the team I grew up hating...and that's the uni's I want back on a permanent basis, although much like Mike Nolan's suits...they are temporary...I guess Nolan gets to wear the suits at home, but not the road and the 9ers busted out the uni's for Wals and they have another game this year where they'll sport the true SF colors...

I haven't read the details on Fisher getting traded, but that seems like a mistake, although Ruskell can do no wrong right CTown fans?...

Were the defenses last night that improved? ...or were the offenses just 'offensive'?

For all the hype....I just don't see the "firepower" in these two groups. I was impressed with SF's cornerback play...but that's about it.

Oh...and I absolutely LOVED watching D-Jack let one fall through the bread basket in the final minute of the 'Niners comeback. Totally busted out laughing my ass off when they showed all of the fans in the stands with their hands on their heads in shock.....

Get used to it suckas....until he has a lingering hamstring injury that keeps him out for 5 games....

I didn't think I really felt one way or another about D-Jack leaving until I realized that all those dropped passes were going to be someone elses problem.

It just brought a smile to my face.
