Weekend Review

I'll take the reigns from Train since he's visiting Will Hunting in the Northeast. Here is a quick recap of what happened over the weekend in the world of sport.

Chelsea drew at Blackburn on Saturday... I actually watched this match while working out. Thank you, SoCal DirecTV. Bad news for the Blues in the coming weeks though... first match in the Champions League has both Drogba and Lampard out. With Pizzaro out also, that leaves Joe Cole starting. Ouch. I'm pretty sure Cole has to have set a record for most Premier League shots without scoring a goal. He should consider kicking in the NFL though, because most of his shots go over the post.

Keeping on the pitch... the 2nd best English Owen is making bold statements for Jimbo's Devils. While Seatown's newly adopted Arsenal club is sitting atop the Premiership table. Serious Ewing Theory potential with Henry bolting for France.

As the pic o' the day indicates... both the Huskies and the Hawks lost on Saturday. Locker looked like a redshirt freshman on his picks. But the Dawgs showed promise playing a solid first half and putting a temporary scare into the ranked Buckeye nation.

The Hawks on the other hand... it's a handoff people! Do we need to get Rex Grossman's 5th Grade Tutors in to teach this fundamental to the Seattle backfield? Wow. Shawn seemed to predict this loss though in his Seahawks preview post. So I'm blaming him.

Watching the game yesterday....I just felt like I was watching a slow motion train wreck. The momentum was clearly in our favor and we essentially Coug'd it. Word on the street is that Shaun Alexander thought that Matt had audibled to a pass play, so he was surprised to even bump into him handing the ball off. It looked like Mack Strong made the same assumption as he rolled into a pass block. So....it can't all be on one guy.

That being said...the fact that the f*cking Rams couldn't get it done against the 49ers means that we are currently 3rd in the division after only 2 weeks. It just makes every other division game that much more important.

I suppose the only positive from the weekend was the result from the North London Derby....my own personal "first". Wow...what an entertaining match. It could've easily ended 6-5 if both teams finished properly....but very entertaining nonetheless. Is it a coincidence that my Cesc jersey arrived in the mail from overseas on Saturday afternoon?

Didnt get a chance to watch the game...only caught the highlights.

I think they are all basically covering for a big blunder, wrong formation/motion called, it could explain a play call where all three were in the wrong position.

Thats my 2 cents.

Aside from 'the play'.....what worries me the most was the performance of our defense. While we have these two new guys deep in the secondary that don't give up the deep ball...they sure give up a lot underneath. I saw Deon Grant make a grand sum total of ZERO plays yesterday. I'm sure there are all sorts of intangibles that the guy brings, but dammit man....frustrating to watch over and over again.

Second concern....ZERO pressure on the frickin' QB. I felt like I was watching a replay of the Husky game on Saturday because the QB had all the time necessary to make the play....and that's not supposed to happen with our new 'ferocious' D. Some serious offensive firepower is on the way into town....and if Deon Grant doesn't lay at least one hit on a Bengals wideout I will F*CKING shit. Might be another horse race though.....if they give up 50 points to the BROWNS? ....wtf?

I'm not really concerned about the offense overall...but I HATE the way that we always seem to start slow. You can see what happens when we get grooving and everything starts to click.....it just seems like the periods of time when that actually happens are getting smaller and smaller.

I would say that we have a critical series of games coming up....but it's the NFL, and every game is critical.

I think you saw moments of brillance, but like my comments after the Tampa Bay game, this team has to be focused for at least 75-80% of the game. I saw about 55-60% yesterday.

They have the talent and the strategy to win 12 games, but so far they're showing the effort to win 8.

As for Saturday, I don't want to beat a dead horse, but UW's margin of error was very slim and they proved that you can't give top 10 teams any advantage, especially when you can't control the line of scrimmage...I'm not sure we'll run up against that talent level the rest of the year (save SC maybe Cal), but if we give the kind of effort they gave in the 2nd half, then we're going to have a tough time going .500 in the Pac 10.

and I guess Hargraves can talk shit after oh...being on the pitch for a combined 180 minutes so far this year...I wouldn't recommend anyone getting excited for the play tomorrow...Days One and Two are usually really conservative with no one wanting to give up 3 points at home or away, a lot of 1-0, 0-0 Futbol...

Jimbo, this Tank Johnson rumor must be the funniest match from a Lodge perspective in a long long time. "Just when I thought I was out..."

Jimbo, you watch the Champions League games today at the G&D? I wouldn't say they were good matches. The best one of the week should be CTown's new boys versus Seville manyana.

no...I was watching downstairs in the Lodge today...the Scouse escape with a point more than they deserved, but the boys in Blue from London have dug a bit of a hole for themselves, especially with Valencia (CTown's other team) getting three points on the road...

big difference in the next round between first and second place...

also appears that Madrid might have a run in them, but it's still early, real early...

Shevy's equalizer wasn't enough for the Blues though. They are in a hole, you are right. But did you notice their stadium for half empty? Crazy.

Yes, the Reds did escape. Especially after Pennant almost doomed them with his red. I hate the French. The Dutchman came up big in that match.

CTown adopted Valencia also? Villa scored for my fantasy squad. Kaka was just that... caca. I have most of my team playing tomorrow with Henry and Ronaldinho.

Who is this Glen Smith fellow? Man, he's trouncing us in the Lodge Premier League game.

When my in-laws get back from Spain at the end of October I will be the proud owner of a nice new Valencia kit....saweet.

I saw how bad the attendance for that Chelsea game was yesterday...wow. The matchup between ManU and Arsenal YOUTH teams drew almost twice as many folks yesterday....nice!

I WISH there was a way that I could sneak out of here today to get down to the G&D....but it ain't gonna happen. SUCKS. Can I watch it online anywhere?

Oh...and I'll also pull a muscle patting myself on the back for taking the 'W' from Husky Legend Tank J with ZERO points from my QB.

Two weeks into the Lodge FFL...a 2-0 record....and a grand total of NEGATIVE ONE POINTS (-1) from my starting QB's. AWESOME.

And Seatown pulls the fork out of Jimbo's back and plunges it right back in. That's the way the cookie crumbles, folks.

some call it improved...I tend to believe that make believe leagues tend to deal primarily with luck...but go ahead CTown and burn that Karma up for later in the season...

Its not a question of "if" for Moss and Owens, just when...

Take your bitter hatred and throw it on the BBQ...because your going to be eating it all season.

What's the over/under on when you disavow any allegiance to the 'Boys again?
