Most Overrated Seattle Sports Athlete Ever...Go....

So thanks to the Times for their annual..."This is Swifty's year because _____ and his Ink work", so it got me thinking...has their been a Seattle athlete that has received more press for accomplishing nothing? I ask the Lodge to give me their top 5....

Does Spencer Hawes make the list even though he's not technically a "Seattle" athlete?

OK...should I respond to my own comment then?

Spencer Hawes didn't actually do NOTHING....he assisted in validating the recruiting power of the new age UW basketball regime.....

I'd say that Hawes is a step above Swifty...but somewhere below Boz and Pokey Reese...

I'll take a crack at this one...

5. Chad Eaton. Good guy. But how many friggin' Hawks D-Lineman have fizzled after getting brought in as a high-profile FA. It's the main reason few were excited this past off-season when Patrick Kerney was signed from the Falcons.

4. Franco Harris. Yes, that Franco Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He signed with the Hawks in '84 and played a whopping 8 games carrying the ball 68 times for 170 yards. A 2.5 yard average.

3. Jim McIlvaine. The Supersonics first bust 7 ft center signing (of countless since) received the most hype. McIlvaine played 401 career NBA games for 3 teams. He scored 1072 points in his career. Wow.

2. Adrian Beltre. This year, he posted solid numbers. But not number for a guy making over 12 million bucks per year. Beltre will never hit the more than 40 HR for the Mariners. Unforgivable deal. I hate Bill Bavasi.

1. Brian Bosworth. The Boz is easily at the top of the list. When your best highlight is getting run over by Bo Jackson and yet you were on the cover of every major sports magazine multiple times before you ever made a Pro Bowl, you are the epitome of a tool.

look at you go...that is a SOLID top 5...even calling out Coug lovin' Chad Eaton aka "The 10 Million Dollar Sieve"...meanwhile making the entire Franco's Italian Army cry...beautiful...

This is actually pretty tough....because the list that I've created is more just a list of some of the top "busts" of Seatown athletes. I just remember certain times that individuals created an abundance of optimism when they were acquired by their respective Seattle teams, and obviously didn't live up to expectations for one reason or another. (I also didn't want to include guys that you would identify as just being a bad deal from a management perspective....because there are WAY more than 5 of those.)

With that explanation/disclaimer in mind, there isn't really any reason to break things down too much more......and I agree with that top 5 with the lone exception of McIlvaine just because I don't ever recall actually feeling optimistic when we signed that guy....the Boz is EASILY #1....total no-brainer.

All that said...I'll add a couple more to the list:
Kevin Mitchell
Rick Mirer

Wow! Jen's one post blows away anything that 2.0 has ever done and hoped to do.

Whoops. I commented on her machine, and she was still logged into her gmail account.

The other guys assumed this... Train, on the other hand... apparently has taken the "ass" title and run with it in my absence from the 206.

If that was actually Jen responding my comment would be "How hot was that response?"

But alas, it was just Joe.
So my response is....

"Hey check out 2.0!!! Trader Joanne!! Nice Dress Nancy boy!!!

Funny bit in the notes of that Swift article

F Damien Wilkins switched jersey numbers from 12 to 21 in honor of his uncle Dominique Wilkins, the NBA legend. "I tried to get it last year from Danny [Fortson] and I told him he should give it to me because he wasn't using it," Wilkins said.

I have to ask about the Ohio State photo though?
