"Goodbye Dave" - TOD: Arthur C Clarke

Sir Arthur C. Clarke was not a scientist or a scifi writer, he was a futurist.
In 1945 he predicated that geostationary satellite communications could be achieved with low platform orbits. This was done in 1969 and as a result, Goose now does work in network communications.
Space craft today employ the use of 5 independent computers to make system-wide decisions. This is to avert a single "Dave" from taking over and possibly endangering flight missions. Seriously.
The concept of space stations, motherships, landing pods, and the internet have bases in his science fiction.
He began monitoring possible earth-bound meteors during the 70's, the world did not think this was really important until Ben Affleck helped save the planet in Armageddon.
One intangible idea of a "space elevator" has yet to be done, but it is continually repeated in science fiction with the most current example in Gundam 00.
Sir Clarke now space walks into the unknown, may his unholy agnosticism connect him with a monolith of grace...

hmmm..."space elevator"...is this at all associated with the "glass elevator" known from the Wonka Chronicles? and if so are we talking copyright infringement? I'm going to Wiki right now to understand more....

I recommend finding a youtube of Gundam 00, now up to episode 23 in Japan.

The shows subplot uses a space elevator, and has great action.

All major countries use space elevators with giant solar energy platforms at the top, since the earth faced an energy crisis from using all fossil fuel. Unfortunately, humanity managed to again - monopolize a new energy source causing war, strife, and poverty for lesser nations.

This would be even more believable if the anime actually reflected modern issues. Like, gas prices nearing $4.00 and flour/bread costing $30.
