Blogging the Golden Globes
That’s right! I have nothing better to do than watch the Golden Globes. And you know what? You get to read about it! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
-The great thing about the golden globes is that they don’t mess around. The show starts and they go right into awards…
Best Supporting Actor: George Clooney for Syriana.
I know it’s the first award of the night, but I’ve got a feeling Clooney just gave the best speech of the show. When he thanked Jack Abrahamoff he commented: "Why would any parent name their kid Jack when they have the word off in their last name?"
That’s just good comedy….
Best Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz for the Constant Gardner
I’m happy about this one. I didn’t think she’d win. Her role didn’t seem to get much attention, but I thought she was just brilliant, and I’m glad to see she won. The rest of this category felt weak, but whatever. The right person won and that’s all that matters. Although she’s wearing so much eye makeup she looks like a freaky gothic chick.
I actually got to meet the director of the Constant Gardner, Fernando Meirelles (see picture) at a preview screening for the film. He’s a very cool cat.
-Okay, they just showed the chick that plays Kate on "Lost" she looks kind of scary. She should always just walk around covered in dirt. She looks better that way. Yikes, just yikes.
Supporting Actor in a TV series of mini-series: Paul Newman in Empire Falls.
I didn’t see this movie, but it’s based on another novel from the author who did "Nobody’s Fool" which I was a fan of.
-Cool…Brandon Routh the future Superman is presenting an award. I know…I’m such a geek.
Supporting Actress in a TV series of mini-series: Sandra Oh in Grey’s Anatomy
Never seen the show, but I totally dug her in "Sideways". She’s got a great talent for comedic timing. Her speech was spastic to say it lightly. I always find those funny.
-Drew Barrymore is presenting "Good Night and Good Luck". She is a goddess. I’ve been in love with her since I saw E.T. (I’m not a pedophile, I was 5). She's easily in my top 5 hotties of all time. I never got to see "Good Night", but I heard it was amazing.
-Old Golden Globe President Guy is talking. Urge to drink too much alcohol rising.
-Kevin Bacon is in the audience. Why isn’t he in more movies? :)
Actress TV series drama: Geena Davis "Commander in Chief"
Never saw it. She actually gave a wonderfully cynical speech. My respect level just went up a little. I’m gonna Stewie from Family Guy fill in:
"Hey Chris? What ever happened to Geena Davis? She used to be in movies but she's not in movies anymore. She's attractive enough but when she smiles you see too much gum. Not a good tooth to gum ratio. Chris? Ah I'll tell you tomorrow!"
Actor TV series drama: Hugh Laurie in "House"
As much as I want to route for Matthew Fox, I’m glade to see Hugh Laurie win. He’s fantastic in "House", plus I’ve been a fan of his since Black Adder. His speech was fantastic. He wrote down 172 names of people he wanted to thank and then randomly pulled out three names. Funny stuff. Gotta love those brits.
-Melanie Griffith just came out. She looks like a drugged. She’s presenting "the Producers". I didn’t see for two reasons:
1. The reviews were HORRIBLE
2. I love the original too much to watch it defiled like a cheap hooker.
Best Mini-series: Empire Falls
No real comment, so lets just do another Family Guy quote:
Kevin Ferderline: Magic Mirror, how can I look like a douche-bag today?
Magic Mirror Peter: Well Kevin, uh, I would say first of all don't shave or shower.
Kevin Ferderline: Ok, I won't.
Magic Mirror Peter: And uh, you just got out of bed right?
Kevin Ferderline: Yeah.
Magic Mirror Peter: I would say just go ahead and wear that tank top all day.
Kevin Ferderline: Uh, ok.
Magic Mirror Peter: Alright, so we covered the hygiene, no collared shirts, uh...ohh, and don't forget to walk around with an undeserved sense of accomplishment.
Best Actor TV series Comedy: Steve Carrell in "The Office"
Some of you love this show; some of you hate it. Either way, Steve Carrell is brilliant. ‘nuff said. Funny speech. Carrell is a comedy god.
-Merlin ala Tim Robbins introduces "Constant Gardner". Great flick. I really, really loved this movie.
-Here comes Jaime Foxx to introduce something. He’s getting annoying.
Best Actress in a musical/comedy: Reese Witherspoon for "Walk the Line"
All right, I’m just gonna say it. She was totally over rated in this movie. In fact she’s over rated in just about everything she does. I HATE HER! She’s backs up the theory that blondes are dumber than sh*t.
Best Actress in a TV/Comedy: Mary Louise Parker in "Weeds"
I’m just happy she beat 4 actresses from "Desperate Housewives". I’ve always been a fan of Mary Louise Parker, and I’ve only seen a couple of episodes of this show, but I think it’s really great.
-Emma Thompson introduced "Pride and Prejudice". I’ll be putting this on the list of movies I don’t ever plan on seeing.
Best actor in a mini-series: Jonathan Rhys Meyers in "Elvis"
Don’t know, don’t care. Family Guy time:
[To Brian]
Adam West: Damnit, Swanson, I want them found!
Joe Swanson: Mayor West, we have every available man looking for the Griffins, we just don't have any leads.
Adam West: Not the Griffins, you moron! The rest of my Light Bright pieces! My name isn't "Adam We"... or is it? Who am I? What number did you call? Don't ever call here again.
[He hangs up the phone]
Adam West: I guess I told him! Nobody messes with Adam We!
Best actress in a mini-series: >didn’t catch the name< Lackawanna blues.
Wow…I’m fading here. What the hell was this movie? Let’s see if family guy will help:
Adam West: [after hearing Peter, Joe, Quagmire, and Cleveland singing Journey's "Don't Stop Believing"] I love this song! And I love it more when amateurs sing the lyrics! But I hate baseball cards!
-Colin Firth introduced "Match Point". I still haven’t gotten around to seeing this, although it’s high on my list.
Best Motion Picture Screenplay: Brokeback Mountain
Let the gay cowboy movie awards begin. I’ve got a feeling this won’t be the first or even second award this’ll win tonight. Right now, Train is clutching a picture of Joe thinking, "I wish I could quit you".
TV Comedy Series: Desperate Housewives.
LAME! "My name is Earl" should have run away with this award. At least "Earl" is good. "Desperate Housewives" is over-hyped. KHAN!
-Penelope Cruz is looking quite hot tonight. She’s introducing "Mrs. Henderson Presents" which I gave a glowing review to a few weeks ago. It really is a sweet movie.
Foreign Language Film: "Paradise Now"
A friend of mine got to see this at a screening with the director in attendance. He's been telling me I need to see it ever since. Sadly, it's not currently playing anywhere, so I'll have to wait for the DVD.
-"History of Violence" gets introduced. I really was wowed by this. If you haven’t seen if you need to make a point to rent or buy it when it comes out. Viggo is a hell of an actor.
Best Score in a Motion Picture: Memoirs of a Geisha.
Well this just proves it. If you don’t know who to vote for, choose John Williams. While I’m all for giving this guy awards, I really don’t know if this deserved top honors.
-Mariah Carey is in the house. When the revolution comes, her death will be painful.
Best song in a motion picture: Some song from Brokeback Mountain.
I’m sure Train will be able to tell you more about this song.
-Anthony Hopkins is getting the lifetime award tonight. He’s a great choice, and one of the most brilliant actors our generation will ever know. Most actors should worship the ground he walks on. Our society may be obsessed with the acting "talents" of people like Ashton Kutcher and Ben Affleck, yet this guy could act circles around most actors in his sleep. Once again, I really have to recommend you check out "the Worlds Fastest Indian". It really is a charming performance.
-Mandy Moore just came out. Is she even famous any more? Anyway, she’s introducing "The Squid and the Whale". I’ve heard nothing but great things about this, although I’m not sure it’s even playing in this area yet.
Best Motion Picture Director: Ang Lee for "Brokeback Mountain"
I’m an Ang Lee fan so it’s nice to see him win. If Brokeback is as good as they say it is, I may forgive him for the "Hulk".
-John Travolta is in the audience passing out Scientology fliers.
Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy: Joaquin Phoenix "Walk the Line"
I saw this coming a mile away. This feels like the "safe" choice. As much of a Johnny Cash fan as I am, I just thought that some of the other nominee’s were stronger. Don’t get me wrong though, I LOVE Cash. He’s the man, and the movie was great. It just wasn’t the best performance of the year. Reese Witherspoon is still a tramp, though.
-Tim McGraw is introducing "Walk the Line". Mr. Johnny Cash was punk rock before punk rock ever existed.
-Is it just me or does Renee Zellweger get a little nastier looking every year?
Musical/Comedy Motion Picture of the year: Walk the Line
People love their musical bio-pics. I've written about this flick a couple of times so lets just bring in a family guy bit:
Peter: Hey, let's play a game called "I never". You gotta drink if you never did the thing the person says they did.
Cleveland: I got one - I never slept with a woman with the lights on. [everyone drinks]
Joe: I got one - I never slept with Cleveland's wife. [Quagmire and Cleveland drink]
Peter: I never did a chick in the Logan airport bathroom. [Quagmire drinks]
Peter: [later, Quagmire has 20 beers on the table] Oh, God, what else is there? I never gave a reach around to a spider monkey while reciting the pledge of allegiance.
Quagmire: Oh, God!
Joe: I never picked up an illegal alien from Home Depot to take me home and choke me while I touch myself.
Quagmire: Oh, God!
Peter: Same thing except with a chick from JoAnn Fabrics.
Quagmire: Come on this is getting ridiculous! [he passes out]
Joe: Boy, he's out cold.
Peter: Let's write on him!
TV Series Drama: Lost
There really was no other choice. This is one of the best TV shows that has ever been put on Television. If you’re not watching this show you’re in the dark…or a dork. In fact, I’m even planning on doing a Khan-esque write up on the show one of these weeks.
-Dennis Quaid is introducing "Brokeback Mountain." I’m actually really looking forward to seeing it. Just not as much as Train.
Actress in a Motion Picture Drama: Felicity Huffman in "Transamerica"
Wait…shouldn’t this have been a best Actor role?
-Alright, this bloody award shore is slowly numbing my brain. Maybe this was a bad idea....
Best Actor in a Drama: Phillip Seymour Hoffman in "Capote"
Hoffman completely deserves this award. That film succeeds or fails based entirely on his performance and he nailed it out of the freaking park.
Best Motion Picture Drama: Brokeback Mountain
It’s really hard to comment on a film I haven’t seen. I’ll see if Train will fill in for me.

Great work on the live bloggin' from the GG...can't think of any other member that would do it the same level of justice...however, your taste in TV/Film is still a little whacky or maybe its just me:
a) I was one of three people that like "Hulk" (his mom and daughter being the other)
b) Rain Phoenix was the best actor of the year in a film...you know why?...well beside the fact that the guy went into rehab following the film (how f'n punk/country is that?)...performed live for the soundtrack and turned in an extremely convincing performance...let me say that if Jamie "Wanda" F'n Foxx wins for just "looking" like Ray and not even performing the songs than I definitely think Phoenix should be a no contest winner...come on, this isn't rocket science...or maybe it i.....
c) could comments on the following people: Johnny T, Renee "open your eyes girl" Z, & Melanie G. (who I'm convinced died several years ago and we're just seeing the corpse halled around with Kenny Baker inside)
d) Empire Falls...good series (come on its HBO they don't f-around) great acting...a little bit of a chick flick, but I ended up watching the entire thing...Newman was good, but not award winning, I suppose that its mandatory that if you're one of the top 5 greatest actors of all-time, you get an award for just showing up on a set when you want to...(if only this could've applied to Brando for Dr. Moureau)
e) its evident that I don't watch a lot of TV, but what I do know is that I'm glad Carrell is getting noticed, unfortunately I'm afraid that the shark is circling and getting ready to spawn...awards and accolades tend to do this....
Good Work MCP
Make no mistake, I thought Phoenix was great in Walk the Line, he just wouldn't have been my choice for best actor. It stems from two places:
1. He won in the Musical/Comedy category, in which he really didn't belong.
2. When it comes to awards, I seem to prefer performances that weren't based on someone real. I'm not sure why, but I've always been that way.
As far as Jaimie Foxx goes, I totally agree that he didn't deserve most of the accolades he got. He could do a great Ray Charles impression, but it didn't go much farther than that to me.
TP: Phoenix deserved the Golden Globe. By arguing that the GG catagory system of Musical/Comedy is faulty shouldn't take away from the performance. Blame the GG... but Phoenix was better than the people he was up against, thus he got the award. I will not argue about this.
You voted for Clooney's speech. And although I admit that Clooney is the man, Steve Carrell's speech was the best of the night. I'd even give the runner-up speech to Geena Davis... who was the surprise of the night if you ask me. Her timing was impeccable.
And Gustavo Santaolalla deserved the award for the Brokeback Mountain Soundtrack. I even made the joke to my wife when the nominations were read, "If John Williams wins his 15th Soundtrack GG just for showing up, I'm gonna be pissed." Well, he won, on reputation alone. I say this because Soundtracks are something that I go listen to (no kidding) even if I don't see the movie, and the Gay Soundtrack was better. F'n Foreign Press.
Oh, and another thing about Walk The Line. This movie was not a bio-pic. It's been driving me crazy when critics keep pigeon-holing the film for being a bio-pic when it's clearly not. The movie is an epic love-story.
If a critic wants to learn about Cash's life, go read his autobiography Cash by Johnny Cash. It's a great read, transparent to the core, and more a more honest account of a life than I can ever remember reading.
I've read the Cash biography, and I 100% agree that if you want the man's story this is the only place you have to look. Still though, it is by definition a bio-pic. Anytime you tell the true story of a person who actually lived it's a bio-pic.
Biographical.
Picture.
I knew my "Walk the Line" comments wouldn't be popular, and I can't really explain why I feel the way I do...it's just one of those things.
I should have revised my statement about Clooney's speech, but I was writing in real time. Steve Carrell was my favorite, but Geena Davis came in a very close second. I laughed out loud when she said "actually that's not true". Good stuff.
I have to include this pic of Scarlett from last night's show:
http://news.yahoo.com/photos/ss/events/en/121305goldenglobe/im:/060117/ids_photos_en/r3671675869.jpg;_ylt=AqLvtofgbZCeG0VqQ.rmAkZ.KcMA;_ylu=X3oDMTA5bGcyMWMzBHNlYwNzc25hdg--
Wow. Johansson & Felicity Huffman were best dressed last night, in my opinion. As a fan of fashion, I had to mention that. But I won't elaborate to keep my manhood intact.
Too late.

Though the pics of Scarlett were a nice touch.
TP, you are really going to be pissed when Reese Witherspoon wins the Oscar for her role as June Carter Cash, eh? Man, this is going to be good. I think Reese deserved to win the GG. Plus, Reese was up against weak competition:
Other Nominees:
Judi Dench for Mrs. Henderson Presents (2005)
Keira Knightley for Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Laura Linney for The Squid and the Whale (2005)
Sarah Jessica Parker for The Family Stone (2005)
Here's my take... Keira Knightley was nominated because she was in Pride & Prejudice and the Foreign Press still get a hardon for Jane Austen. Laura Linney's favorite class in school was Overacting 101, taught by Judi Dench. And Sarah Jessica Parker!?! The Family Stone!?! Did the GG think she was still on Sex In The City?
And I can't believe you thought Drew Barrymore looked good last night. She walked out and I said to the wife, "Drew looks like her 1992 High School yearbook picture." Seriously, she looked terrible. Wasn't even in the same stratosphere of the Lost chick in the green dress. Holy smokes, I need to start watching that show.
http://news.yahoo.com/photos/ss/events/en/121305goldenglobe/im:/060117/ids_photos_en/r3851814787.jpg;_ylt=Ag6GcfLqm5XYuMq8HWm4HVr.WccF;_ylu=X3oDMTA3dmhrOGVvBHNlYwNzc20-
My god that woman is fine product of breeding...(Johansson not Huffman)...although Huffman's not bad for her age bracket
Lilly looked ok...didn't watch the show so I haven't seen Drew...she's always been a little too Organic for me...I like a little heat-pasturizing, beechwood aged...
I'm just wierd like that. Drew could have shown up dressed in a Bjork-reject outfit with a shaved head and I still probably would have thought she was hot.
I'm not proud that's just the way it is.
I'm starting to think you should have the line..."I don't know why, I just do" following all of your comments...
I type that a lot, don't I? I don't know why, I just do.

We've got a groupie...that is EPIC
"Stumbled into The Black Lodge"
Thats a good way of putting it.
Train. Stay away from the groupie.
Sorry guys been busy today but I have to say one thing.
Joe. If you ever do a fashion review again I will personally come of to your house kick your ass, and take movies of it and post in on the blog, and do a timeline
8:47 Arrived at Joes
8:53 After exchanging the patented "Joe Hug" immediately kicked him in the groin.
8:58 Began pummeling Joe while my minions set up the camcorder to begin recording
9:11 Joe begins crying for the 1st time while I refer to him as "The Joan Rivers of the Lodge"
9:18 Completed ass kicking of Joe. We then watched CSI. All is well.
Holy crap! That was quite possibly the funniest thing I've read this side of Chuck Norris.
HEY!!! While I appreciate the comment...NOTHING is funnier than Chuck Norris!
I never meant to imply that this was better than Chuck Norris, just that I haven't laughed out loud at work to a post SINCE Chuck Norris.
If there's one thing I've learned in my time at the lodge, it's that you shouldn't mess w/Mr. Norris for fear of a roundhouse kick to the head.
Good call MCP. Even if Train bails and goes to the game. You have earned a trip to the lodge, and should be there!
Ladies! I'm really enjoying the fashion reviews today! I said I'd comment when the topic was of interest to me, and today definitely qualifies.
So, Joe, having reviewed all the GG pics on the web, my top 3 fashion pics are:
1) Keira Knightly
2) Lilly Evangeline
3) George Clooney (you guys should learn from the man. Gorgeous George)
Scarlett is amazing looking, but I wasn't a fan of that dress. A little too much. Which is probably why you guys liked it.
As far as actual winners, I saw Brokeback, and it definitely deserves the accolades, but Heath Ledger should've gotten something. He was truly excellent. And Michelle Williams (aka one of those Dawson's Creek chicks who ended up with Heath) actually did a really good job as well. The supporting cast really brought the movie together. It was just a very well done. And frankly, the kissing was hot. The Princess will agree with me when she finally sees it. HOT.
The Squid and the Whale was here. The Dude and I went and saw it over at the Uptown. Not the most uplifting movie, but also excellent. I really recommend it. It's probably something right up Jayne's alley. Laura Linney should've won the best actress award. I think she deserved it more than Reese, who did a good job, but I don't like her all that well in general.
And I really want to see Transamerica.
Thats it. Thanks for brightening up my day, guys. Really.
Maybe we will be called upon to moonlight and do "Guest Blogs"
(And this week on Carries Blog, we have a very special guest post..the MCP from the Black Lodge giving his review of the Movie Slasher Parody "Saturday the 14th"!
Followed by his ever popular "Why I loved Serentity more than Star Wars" post.
See what you did????? Damn you JOE!!! You have soiled the MANHOOD of the LODGE!!!!!
Im going to have to go home and watch Hockey and Porn at the same time just to get the "Fashion Review" Smell off of me.
Fashion Reviews in the lodge is like bringing your Fiancee to your Bachelor Party. Its just not allowed.

Joe, did we all skip over the fact you might have seen BB Mountain? he had a little to much passion for the composer...
Maude I also love how you bypassed any inclusion of The Dude in your viewing of BB mountain. Well played... We Shall Never Know.
Goose - I thought I was the only one who ever say Saturday the 14th. Funny thing is I thought it really was a horror movie when I watched it at age 8.
Train...Its all about the Obscure reference. Its what the lodge was built on.
I only love Serenity more than the Prequels. The original trilogy is still, and always shall be, the Holy Grail.

I am seriously thinking I need to devote a rambling to Scarlett's J's body of work.. Goose I can incorporate fasion into the review if you would like?
Train.
Do you remember the scene in Steven Kings "Misery"? When Brian Piccalo upset Annie Wilkes?
I like that idea...a Scarlett J write up could be interesting. Of course, knowing you, you're write up will cover the following Scarlett J gems:
Home Alone 3
North
Eight Legged Freaks
Girl With A Pearl Earing
SpongeBob Squarepants Movie
That dress was loco
I think Yabos is Yiddish for "Large Twin Mountains"
Yeah, I just say the photo of Scarlett at the GG... I am going to need a few moments to catch my breathe.
This is why the Term "Yabo's" was invented....
I'm looking forward to the sequel to "Girl with the Pearl Earrings"...come on now, everyone together..."Girl with a Pearl Necklace"
and man...I check out for an hour yesterday and this comment gets out of control...thanks Claire for stopping by...feel free to comment whenever you like
Train...I just want to say I was absent for the BB party. I wasn't excited to see it and I think the message was thrown out there. By the way, I have to second the running commentary for goin' over to Joe's house. I liked it when you finished off with "and then we'll sit back and watch CSI"
who's this guy named "the dude"...and who said he could comment on this blog?
Kommish, thanks for the shout-out. I agree that Keira Knightly looked good, but her teeth bother me. She looks like she has sharks teeth. Isn't she a millionaire by now? Can she get them fixed? Austin Powers did.
But Lilly Evangeline sported the green well, I agree. And Clooney is the man, but I didn't notice what he was wearing, because I was busy looking up pictures of Scarlett's pair of talents on the World Wide Web... and wondering why Mandy Moore decided to go through her mom's jewelry box and wear that gawd-awful 8 ft. pearl necklace (You like that, Jimbo?) with that off-the-rack black dress.
Quick side note: Kate Beckinsale looked amazing and solidified her newly acquired spot in my Top-5 in a white number, while Jessica Alba remained in the Top-5 further convincing me that she could wear anything and look hot.
Agreed on the Kate Beckinsale/Jessica Alba tip. But I gotta say that Scarlett J runs away with the top prize...at least as far as the GG's are concerned.
Joe.
You need help. Seriously
Jayne don't you mean DD's?
Well played, Train. Well played.
Man. we are quickly approaching 50 comments. A new lodge record
I'm just glad that we can leave "The Devil's Rejects" far behind. I'm pretty sure I can go the rest of my life without talking about that movie.
I'm pretty sure you can't...and I'm just happy to be #50 on the comment...but, then again...I do feel a void when 50 comments are given to the GG, and half are based around gown-ware...even if my Girl with the Pearl Necklace is involved (no, not Mandy)...I might have to follow the Goose's advice and watch Hockey and Porn at the same time, actually I think I'll make it the holy trinity with Hockey, Porn and Delta Force...yeah that should work...
Wow 50+ comments...impressive...most impressive. I love how this blog turned into a sewing circle talkin' about clothes...I figured we didn't need that in this blog...we need to reboot the 2.0
We've got a system error.
