Feeling Hawkish

The United States stated that they were looking at every diplomatic option they can on the situation in Iran. The US has stated that they would leave the military option on the table, which is not surprising to hear since of course because if you haven’t noticed the hawks out number, the doves. Trusting the administration to talk diplomacy is like trusting your parents after you find out Santa and the Tooth Fairy isn’t real. This brings up a huge quandary.

You have a radical government which denounces the Holocaust and wants Israel wiped off the map. They just pledge 50$ million to Ham as, a government in its own right that supports and ferments terrorism. This to me is where it gets tricky. A nation like this is capable of destroying most of the Middle East. This is the nation that poses a bigger threat then Iraq. Saddam seems like Mussolini to Iran’s Hitler. A strong case can be made that if you were going to start a campaign of regime change it should have started here. The Iranians have little to no true friends in the Mid East. Seems like the White House took the wrong advice and went after the wrong country, this is not news but when you are trying to build support for an operation either diplomatic or covert military action you need support from everyone. Support that the US will never get due to 6 years of my way of the highway attitude coming out of the oval office. It saddens me to think that because of this a nation more radical then any other has the chance to build the ultimate weapon.

Not that I am looking for a military solution. I think that the US and other western nations have a strong chance of building a regime change from the inside. The people of Iran love the west. Walking down the streets of Tehran is like walking downtown in any US city to some extent. The people have there IPODS there Levi’s and I am sure apple pie is being cooked somewhere. Basically a change can happen there again. I believe that if this taken seriously a change can be made with out a shot being fired. Though I don’t see this happening cause this takes time and some people think not much time is left.

In the end the military is going to be used and it will stretch our forces even thinner and solidify our country as a one man show hell bent on change by any means necessary. The thing is that this might be a fight to under take. This nation just doesn’t have anything left in the tank we are tired worn out and bogged down. Another battle is something we can’t handle alone. We need support and support is something we can’t get either here in our borders or abroad. In the end Iran might get the bomb or it might not. I just don’t know if they should have it. And I really don’t know how we can do anything about it.

Please tell me that now that you have gone on your political rant, that you are not going to cry about all the soldiers being killed then throw up in a Wonder Bread Bag.

Certaim memories cannot be repeated.

look at you big guy...a couple of things:

1) the nuclear threat of Iran is so completely overblown right now its ridiculous...here's an example I heard last night from a nuclear fission expert: theory: if a nuclear bomb is like a professional 100 piece symphony orchestra Iran has just successfully developed the technology to build one instrument...they still have to figure out how to build the remaining 50 or so, and have them all play pefectly in order to develop an honest threat

2) there won't be any rubber stamp this time around with Congres in an election year and all the GOP fading back to the middle and seperating themselves from the White House
* I know Cheney doesn't need a rubber stamp necessarily to invade, but he will continue to need funding for Halliburton

3) the general populous of both countries don't align with their appointed leaders currently, both governments are being run by radicals that will eventually be elected/thrown out of office...

4) Iran has been supporting Hamas for a long time now, and in fact this latest number is actually quite lower than previous contributions

5) the only real power that any government has in the modern political arena is not force, but economic sanctions...many models of this have, some haven't: success=South Africa, failure=Cuba...for Iran, it will have to be recognized as an Intl threat in order to make any difference, and with Russia yet to step up, the whole thing is in a stalemate...it's a slippery slope however, because like in N. Korea sanctions can turn the populous against the US/World...I think it's in everyone's best interest to keep the Iranians loving IPOD's and let the moderate majority of both the US and Iran to take back their f'n countries...

6) it's time to go back to early 20th century Isolationism...where's Teddy when I need him?

Thank you for the foot notes jimmy. I needed the help from the Poli Sci major...

I know they are years away from a "bomb". I just wanted to start the talk in the Lodge...

If anyone gets a chance to read this weeks New Yorker I strongly recommend it. There is a nice piece on Iran and the military option. The facts are stated there far more clearly than I could ever put down...

All this talk about elevating the blog. Dont ever forget where you have come from boys. This blog was built on Top Gun quotes, Porn, Football, Music and all things Sports.

Never forget those roots. They are the foundation of what we have built. And no Joe. I dont give a crap about the outside audience opinion that reads the blog. Fan loyalty is based upon what we have built. Not the formating of my HTML.

I like the post train, but post it because it is somthing you care about, not because it elevates the blog.

Besides Im still pushing for that 2.0 Suspension. Like the NFL Drug Policy.

1st offense - Loss of Admin rights for 4 weeks
2nd Offense- Suspended from all posting for 4 weeks
3rd offense - 1 year Lodge Suspension, plus all Lodge Members get to kick you square in the Nuts
4th Offense - Banishment from the Lodge following a Lodge "Gomer Pyle, Full Metal Jacket, Soap in a Sock ass whuppin."

Yowzah....this IS a quandary, but I am optimistic that we can arrive at a peaceful outcome on this. (note: I am an optimist by nature.....I feel that informed ignorance IS actually bliss)

Man, do you have any idea how hard it would be to get US citizens to back another "military action" in the middle east? Dang near impossible I would bet....

I have started my own blog for social and political issues. I have yet to get started on it. It was brought about because of my frustration of the media to cover up serious national issues with things like "The Duke Lacrosse Team scandal" or "911 Conspirator Moussaoui". These things frustrate me because the media will cover bog down airtime for irrelevant or dead issues. I commend the lodge for approaching more thoughtful topics. If any of you have read the intro to V for Vendetta it begins by saying how people wash away their lives by bathing in happy thoughts, and if you want to read V for Vendetta for happy thoughts, you probably shouldn't. I believe we can be more complicated than that and exist with the profane, the illicit, and humorous all at once on this lodge.

I like the debate, and there's not going to be any restrictions on social/poltical/cultural topics...like Kyle stated in part II of Cartoon Wars "You either allow all of it, or you allow none of it"...ahhh Zen from Parker and Stone...Duke, once you get your thing going let me know, I'd like to take a look

I think the "social market of ideas" will either allow for these more serious posts or they won't, I'm going to leave it up to whoever feels to comment...I share the belief with Edward Murrow that even if Americans take one hour each week to educate themselves on the issues both locally and nationally, the entire nation will prosper...could be a load of horsesh*t though...

Dont get me wrong Jimmy. I beleive the blog can be used for social commentary, Hallmark moments and all other out of the norm posts. I just want to make sure that you post true to yourself, not because Joe wants to impress others reading the blog.

Basically it all boils down to Joe being and Ass, and I will continue this line of thought until Joe is suspended.

Joe is a Cancer to the Lodge Locker room. Oh yeah I said it Joe. A Cancer.
A Tumor destroying Lodge Class and Dignity. Id trade your ass to a West Seattle Dominatrix Blog but no one is willing to pull the trigger for you.

Goose, I'm not going to bite. The only person who's acting like an ass today resides in the 253. What have I done since my heartfelt apology to the Lodge two weeks back that deserves these egregious accusations?

Let's bring the focus back to more pressing matter -- Like where is Jayne's ComiCon post?

Much love to the MCP. I like the political spin on the lodge. It's nice to go Anderson Cooper every once in a while. It's better to vent than to let it build up. Enjoy it train...I for one think the Iran issue shouldn't be touched with a ten foot poll because they have our military thin already. Let's be diplomats and not socialist a-holes
