Pearl Jam Guacamole

Plain and simple....do yourself a favor and pick up the new PJ record. Definitely their best effort in the last 10 years. In an effort to bring you an honest and thorough review, I've gone ahead and listened to the album 46 times in the last couple weeks.

Right now I will just say that they get back to the business of ROCK...but they are still PJ, and thus, they delve into politics a bit. However, the politics on this record aren't of liberalism or conservativism...they are about engagement and responsibility. Full review of the album first thing on Monday morning as I think it warrants more than a late Friday afternoon post...

Couldn't agree with you more C-Town. This album was a definite breath of fresh air.

couldn't disagree more...my wife...10club member # under 10,000...had the album shipped to her last Friday...I finally got to the point of telling her that if she plays it one more time, it won't be there the next time she goes to play it...a little background...

don't know many people that can say they've seen a band in three different countries and two continents...I hold this band in extremely high regards for not only musical, but intimate personal reasons...bottom line: I'm not a PJ hater...but---

In what started as a decline following Yield (My personal favorite and I believe the pinnacle of the band)...the band grew into way-too simple riffs and tired chorus's (see-Love-Boat Cpt)...the pinnacle of that songwriting I think is evident in the new Guac album...

perhaps I just don't get it, but to me, I don't look for PJ to go 1000 mph in every song and I don't an entire album dedicated to why the current political situation in America sucks...if you need PJ to tell you that and open your eyes to a bigger world than you're probably better off not knowing...this is something that doesn't improve the quality of a band...(i.e. U2's move away from the days of WAR and Under a Blood Red Sky, RATM was only able to make 3 records with that type of material)...

I'm not going to spread a negative vibe, because like I said, I do hold this band in extreme high regards...it is one of the few bands that I feel a personal relationship to, even though I've never formally been introduced...and I'm positive that I'm not alone...I will speak out when I think the band has taken a new turn that I can't follow anymore...sad more than anything

One could argue that PJ's debut record was their pinnacle effort (Ten is arguably a monumental achievement in music history) and have been on the decline quality-wise since. If one were so inclined.

one would be an ass to start off with, but technically not wrong if you want to score it on tangible elements such as album sales, which second place isn't even close...but anyone that follows any bad that makes more than five records will describe the evolution of a band's sound...

I agree that determing the "best" record the band has ever made is an extremely subjective claim, but based on the band members (Jack Irons on Drums) and the amount of time spent together (5th album also the maturity factor), you saw the musical equivalent of the perfect storm, sans Diane Lane's hot-ass...

Wow....take off for a couple hours and miss the Jimbo PJ Guac-bashing session....nice!

"Are you finished?? ...well allow me to RETORT"

.....no, just kidding. I don't want to go off with the worlds longest comment, and I do agree with what you said on several levels. It's all subjective really...and perhaps I'm a bit biased, because I think that PJ is one of the last great rock bands. I think they are one of the greatest ever. Absolutely. Even the material that isn't so popular with the 'mainstream' folk.

So, that being said....Jimbo, we need to down some cold ones and have this discussion sometime. When are we gonna make that happen?
