Devils Rejects 2: Electric Boogaloo

The Hollywood Reporter has an article stating that Rob Zombie is going to bring Michael Meyers back to the big screen with another Halloween movie. It won't be a sequel, but rather a "re-imagining" (i.e Remake...only with more gore).

This is a bad call, Ripley. I'm getting so tired of Hollywood re-making every f'n Horror film they can get their grubby little hands on. The original "Halloween" was a great flick...and every single sequel sucked. Can Rob Zombie really bring something new and fresh to the story? Somehow I doubt it. Adding in a metal soundtrack and throwing in "crazy" camera effects is not going to cut it.

Time hasn't been all that kind to the original "Halloween" movie, which is really a shame because it's one of the most innovative and, dare I say, revolutionary horror films of the last 40 years. I think what happened is that the film was just so heavily copied over the course of 10-20 years (in addition to a string of truly crappy sequels) that it really watered down to power of the original.

- It introduced the "Unstoppable Killer Syndrome" (later seen in Friday the 13th and Nightmare On Elm Street along with several hundered others).

- At the time it was the most profitable independent film ever made. A title now owned by the Blair Witch Project.

- The Theme music, how can anyone forget the theme music?

- Interestingly enough, even though it became the proto-typical "slasher" film, it's has a surprising lack of blood and gore. My favorite scene, which I also find to be the most intense (Jaime Lee Curtis hiding inside a closet as Michael Meyers stalks the house) shares more in common with suspenseful atmospheric horror than with the gorey fare the film is associated with.

- While not innovative or anything, I love the fact that Michael Meyers mask is just a spray painted William Shatner mask.

The Halloween them is unmistakable. While you and I rarely agree, I got to go with you on this one MCP.
This was a debate of mine when Gus Van Sant remade Psycho with Vince Vaughn. While he honored Hitchcock by duplicating the film (even the camera work)...it was poor casting

Much like my hatred for all things Skip Bayless...MCP continues his on-slought against Rob Zombie...is this really Rob Zombie or Big Budget Hollywood?...I'm sure if you asked any horror-enthousiast MCP-level freak they've thought about re-making a ton of great horror films...that doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to happen...i.e.-Gus Van Sandt and Pyscho (suspense I know, but same concept)

I don't share your criticism of Zombie, but I do agree that remaking what essentially is one of the top 5 Independent (regardless of genre) movies of all-time is ridiculous and unecessary...(unless he puts Sheri-Moon in the film...then Train and I would reconsider)

Jonathan Liebesman is making a remake of the Original Friday the 13th. Retelling the story of camp crytal Lake.

Ch-Ch-Ch---Ha-Ha-Ha (another staple Horror movie sound)

Speaking of Rob "Zombie"...I enjoyed the most recent 'Dawn of the Dead' remake.....finally giving the zombies the ability to sprint after their victims.....brilliant!

I'm in full agreement on the BWP w/ you Goose...probably the biggest let down of the last 100 years of cinema, well outside of One Night in Paris
