International Friendly

Yesterday, my friend Darryl and I kicked around the futbol before hitting happy hour at the GBaG to enjoy a fine cocktail. So there we are, practicing our lobs when two Japanese students wave and come over and join the session. No words were spoken, the only exchanges the touch passes in the grass. The globe is excited for the World Cup starting Friday. After about 20 minutes and with a traditional bow, our friends left without a word. Only 2 days away from the biggest sporting event in the world.

Great story 2.0...that's the kind of thing that warms my almost frozen heart...gives me faith in humanity again...or as I like to call it redemption through futbol...

Speaking of kicking the ball around...I'd love to get together and see if I have any touch left in my right boot...not sure what everyone's plan for Saturday is, but I'll be up at 6 for the England game...breakfast, a little futbol down at Fairmount? then we have T&T vs. the Swedes at 9 followed by Coite d'Ivoire vs. Argentina at noon...should be a good Saturday...

Any takers?

I'm thinking that sounds like a mighty fine plan. If I can get up early enough for the England match & others join the fray, than I'll bring the OJ & Donuts.

Jimmy is speaking my language today… The language of “jorga bonita”

I planned on getting up bright and early to watch the ENG game. You want to get together and watch? I’ll bring the tea and biscuits.

Ctown - One game can change everything.... Bike rides come and go but this comes once every 4 years... I'm sure we will get together to watch a match... Remember we still have Azzuri vs. USA on Sat the 17th - which i am sure will be another gathering.

Believe me....I would skip the ride, but it's with a family friend that is only in town for the weekend because his wife is going to Melissa's bridal shower.

On another note....I was reading this "Soccer A-Z" article, because I'm trying to prime the pump and get myself a little edgumacated for the big event.....and I ask myself what seems like an obvious question (at least to me).....why aren't we doing some sort of Lodge World Cup Pool? Am I missing something? ....do soccer lovers not enjoy a good gentlemen's bet every 4 years?

Oh, believe me I would love to get a pool going for the cup. Even just 5$ in the kitty would be a nice bet on who is going to come out of the group stages then on to the knockout rounds. C-town are there any sites where we can get a pool started ala NCAA final 4?

I think my network administrator is trying to block my access to the Lodge...

In the last few days I've been double posting or it's been "down for maintenance" everytime I try and post something.....anyone else having these problems?

Damn.....the soccer leagues don't allow you to just choose the teams....you actually have to assemble a team of 23 players and it's a point based system on performance in the World Cup to determine the winner.

I'm afraid I'm disqualified under the "don't know shit" clause in Section 1A.......

Any other ideas?

It's not just you...The lodge hasn't been loading in Pemcoland either.

OK.....I've set up a league on foxsoccer (Thanks Train), and I'll post the info from home tonight or in the morning. Hopefully I'll be able to get the frickin' blogger to load properly.

Scoring will not begin until "game round 2" on June 14th since you would all have to immediately register tonight in order to get going for tomorrow morning. This way...we can all register, and watch a few matches and decide what our picks might be. You can also change your picks up until the minute before kickoff....so that's pretty cool. Cool??
