For me, this was my World Cup

World Cup? Champions League? UEFA Cup? U-18 Washington State Girls Title? no...an exhibition trophy from an All-Star game. Godspeed you merry gentlemen...godspeed...

This was an entertaining game that you really can only take with a grain of salt.

I saw a few players that should try to make a move to Europe. The US has talent though the MVP is a Canadian National.

Anyone catch the Barcelona v. Chivas (mex) on Sunday night?

I have it taped...we'll see if I get around to it...I also love the comment that Terry made after the match (the constant professional)..."I'd like to thank the Yanks for a rousing good time...and see about trimming the grass down a little bit..."...I never thought about it, but that was something that I could never put my finger on what bugged me about the MLS...it's like every game is at Notre Dame or Old Soldier Field in knee deep ryegrass...just an observation

Joe Cole is out for an few weeks with some knee damage.

Chelsea looked lost up top. Two strikers tying to get on the same page. Essian was phenominal already, thanks to some nice WC work.

John Terry is all about class. I have to say I like the fact that all MLS teams are being required to go build soccer only stadiums. That's the only way you are going to maintain the leauge... lets be honest though, this is still the minors and all the best still move onto europe.

Hey, I just started to watch The History of Soccer from Netflix - I recommend it to all the soccer bums in the Lodge. Great, info, pictures, interviews and narrated by ZOD.

although, putting all that aside, I would like to get properly pissed with everyone before the match on Wed...because of my finances it'll probably be me in the backyard w/ a Oil Can of Foster's Bitter....but everyone is welcome to attend...you know...if that's how you like to party...

Such is the sacrifice one makes to become a soccer dork...

Sure, I'll hold off on the game until the evening. just let me know when you get back.

You ever think we are the only ones that even read these posts?

So pregame at the Lodge backyard? ....should I bring the washers?

As long as we have DVR to watch games and the ESPN over kills the TO storyline or any other hot topoc. I will be the rock to lead Operation LS.

Bring the Washers and your best Basque accent....

that's an affirmative on the washers...

Will do on the washers.

I gotta tell you both....it's gonna take a lot of restraint on my part to not want to kick the crap out of both of you for operation LS, aka 'operation BS'.

I propose a rule that if you choose to undertake this 'operation', then you can't continue to mention the exisitence of said operation. Doing so actually acknowledges the fact that you are blowing everything off on purpose....not because you actuall don't care, but because you are trying to pretend like you don't care in standing up for the round ball....or something like that. What is the point of the idea again? Just worn out? ....or are you actually just trying to make some sort of lame ass stand against American football?

This spits in the faces of all oblong ball fans everywhere....

Wow. Look at Seatown. Standing up for American Football. I stand beside you Seatown. There is a time and a place for round ball sports. And as Toht told Marion Ravenwood..."That time has passed"

The Operation that shall remain nameless for me really has to do with the rekindled excitement that I get every four years. I am a big fan of soccer I tend to keep an eye on the English season and always keep track of my favorite team. I reached a point during the world cup where I was just enamored with the game and its play. I love the running clock the constant flow of a game played with out shot clock, play clocks or boring commercials. Those things are just ingrained in the American sports landscapes we have grown to accustomed to it, I feel like I am just lifting all of this from the sports guy buts it’s true. Has all the outside influences tarnished the sports I love. I think they have. I hate the NBA; I hate the 50 time outs in the last 2 min of the game. I hate the constant commercial interruptions in football. Is soccer perfect? Hell no, I know that. I am sure you can name many things that plague the game. For every T.O here there is a Del Piero over there. I am not going to give up watching or going NFL games this year. I’m simply putting it all on the back burner. You are not going to hear me say I’ve gone cold turkey. I love the game to much. I just want to devote time to a game I love and feel should get more of my time then just every 4 years.

OK....thanks for the clarification. I can really appreciate that. For whatever reason, I thought it was some sort of elitist garbage.....guess I was wrong.

But, bashers beware...I will stand strong for the oblong ball.

On another note, I wouldn't be pissed at all if TO went "missing" sometime in the near future. One can always hope...

Half Man Half Ribery...

Arsenal is expected to sign French winger Franck Ribery by the end of the week for around £13.5 million ($25.7 million). Ribery, who was dropped by Marseille for their Sunday fixture, is said to favor the EPL club.

I have to say, I enjoyed the MLS All-Star Game. It just renewed what I liked about the WC. I have started record some classic matches with ManU and Liverpool. I look forward to enjoying those games.

However, I haven't forgotten the sport I really love - Football (American Style). I can't say I'm goin' into the season full steam...but I probably will be there around Oct. I am goin' to enjoy this new found love for the real futbol.
