Interesting Topic.
My first thought was Spider-man 1 & 2, but the #3 on the horizon it is probably disqualified. So here's one:
Toy Story 1 & 2.
Thats a good call on toy story. However disney movies never seem to go for the trilogy
How about Gremlins and Gremlins 2 (The new batch)

Toy Story is a Pixar film... only distributed by Disney before they bought Pixar.

Jackie Brown & Out Of Sight.
And for the record "Before Sunset" is on IMDB's top 250 list.
Out Of Sight a sequel? Only because of the reprise of Michael Keaton's role... but different main characters, different writers, different directors... different in pretty much everyway. No way is Out Of Sight a sequel.
Still connected though. They're both from the same author, and they're in the same world.
It's like Clerks & Mallrats. They're not direct sequels, but they're very much connected.
I was just throwing it out there.
