Nuts, Noodles, and Lattes

The world is going apesh*t. PERIOD. So apparently now if i'm going to the United Kingdom I can no longer drink my Americano and listen to Radiohead on my ipod. I am now a level 4 security risk in the eyes of the West.

I'm sure we've all heard about the recent developments in the War on Terror. A group of several people bent on taking down a little less than a dozen planes with liquid explosives has been on the news like crazy. What really making me pissed is the amount of media coverage going on about this and the explicit details that they're giving. Like the specifics of, ...it would only take about half a pack of cigarettes in explosives to puncture a plain fuselage? Come on media, you're just inspiring more villains and homegrown crazies to take things into their own hands. Or then there's todays New York Times article that actually gives a break down of how to use hydrogen peroxide and nail polish... stop giving out information! I know earlier i was bitching about not having enough info in news or being biased, but there is a point where something stops being informative or enlightening and is just plain dangerous.

As if it wasn't bad enough seeing siege tactics going on outside of a Starbucks in Belltown two weeks ago. You're just adding more flames to already Allah addled brains of pissed off people. I am left with the overwhelming sentiment the media is on crack. I say take down these terrorists in a more quiet way. Don't make it a news circus to promote how awesome you're doing because 1) you're showing extremists that there are other hardcores out there, 2) its not making people feel any more safer, 3) the amount of additional information given out entailing what their plans were going to be just give others a headstart on how to improve their plans. If you wanna read how crazy our own local nut brokedown you can check it out from the equally morbid stranger article on Naveed Haq.

Maybe we can all find solace, hope, and inspiration from Oliver Stone and World Trade Center. Its a cracked out world, lets all wallow in it.

(To the government: I am still completely sane, I am just venting, and I have no plans for radicalism or revolution. Just a cubicle monkey being verbose.)

Wait? Did we just get spammed?

KHAN!

The world really is going to hell.

On a serious note, great post Duke. I agree with you 100%.

Matt, thanks for taking an interest in the Lodge. If it was agent Dale Cooper then I would be hooked. But we will take a look...

ok, without much time to get into this. The Government is dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. I can only imagine the media response if the Govt. took down these guys and not said a word and the media found out every media outlet in the world would have a field day with it. Then when the Govt. tells us the details the the media tells us that it's scare tactics. Tough spot for the government no matter what letter is next to your name.

The media loves all the stuff it makes for great copy. Of course they are going to run with how to's on making a bomb out of a tampon and hand lotion. In times like this I stick to NPR to get my news. Nothing sensational just cold hard facts.

plus, the anarchist cook book has been around forever. Just because the world knows how to make a bomb doesn't mean everyone is sick enough to do it.

i hear what you're saying train. but with the social mood of the world the way it is, and with the increase of information, it is a powderkeg (for lack of a better word). they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. but geez, some things are ok to be Top Secret, i think this would have been better off. there are too many fanatics that are developing into serious independent terrorists. and although information has been online for years, its just more fuel to the fire of jihad, or Timothy McVeighs.

interesting....just saw Vendetta last night, and although as a movie it was average, the original content and perception by Alan Moore on the exploits of government by means of fear was amazing and we are slowly catching up to his plot line...

Hope? hope is slowly becoming a myth told in folk tales by people who can barely remember...fences make for superchamp neighbors...

Thats why we have movies like Superman. I highly recommend you sit at B&N in Westwood and read the original V for Vendetta TPB or buy it.

Yes, in some way this is power to the government in the form of fear and keeping us cowed to allow them to do what they need to do.

WTC is dumb, and I now agree with you guys on the same note as UNITED93 that it is way too early. We aren't even out of the storm we're in now historically; how can we look back at events and make ourselves respect the past. Its the wrong attempt at making the present time right.

and really, how good is airport security. their mostly guys that look like my grandpa waiting for pensions, or they're worn out teamsters that got tire of labor. which person do you think has more balls to stand up to what they feel is duty?

I hear you Duke but I still think that a terrorist is going to come up with something new no matter if we put all this data on explosives in the same room at the Ark of the Covanant.

I dont think it is so much a production of fear by the media/govt. I think more and more people hate us every day. There needs to be a change from the top to get back in the graces of kids growing up in the west bank.

I plan on seeing WTC. I think this is a far better take on it then United 93

For the record Train, United 93 was a stunning film...
...don't judge what you haven't seen.

Well, I just think I will leave WTC filled with hope and Flight 93 will leave me empty.

I will still watch 93

The thing that's fascinating about Flight 93 is how narrow it's scope is. It really captures the sheer confusion and overall lack of knowledge. Nobody really knows what's happening. You really feel caught up in the moment.
I don't think you'd walk away feeling empty. Overwhelmed maybe, but not empty.

but "CROM!!!" - uses three exclamations? Does the last Sumerian have a leg up on Star Fleets best Captain? .... hmmmm.

Train, you have not yet solved the riddle of steel have you?

Crom"!!!", I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, and why we died. All that matters is that today, two stood against many. Valor pleases you, so grant me this one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, the HELL with you!
