Worst remakes is like hitting the side of a barn. Most remakes suck compared to the original. Can you think of the 10 best? But I digress...
I'll throw in the remake of "Get Carter". Stallone can not top Michael Caine.
Also, Red Dragon. Michael Mann's "Manhunter" was way better. And you can't beat Brian Cox as Hannibal.
Horror Film wise, it's a dime a dozen: 13 Ghosts, the Fog, Amityville, Texas Chainsaw.
How about Point of no Return? Luc Besson's La Femme Nikita was a classic. Although I do have a soft spot for Bridget Fonda.
It's a cheap shot to throw Psycho out there. And I actually have a lot of respect for the project. It was really ambitious, and I found it to be very interesting to study.
I will throw out 2 titles for best remakes: Dawn of the Dead The Thing
Um, Brian Cox is great, but I think you can beat him out, with Anthony Hopkins. Hopkins is Hannibal Lecter.
Get Carter sucked though, you are right there Jayne. Man, I do hate me some remakes though! My Top 5 Worst Remakes:
5. Vanilla Sky - Now, I liked this movie. But the original was a masterpiece... why remake a masterpiece? Even if it was a foreign film. I feel the same way about the upcoming The Departed based on the amazing Infernal Affairs. 4. The Vanishing - The Dutch original was waaay better. Terrible remake. 3. Solaris - Tarkovsky's 1972 version was truly creepy. My least favorite Soderbergh movie. 2. The Longest Yard - Again... Why!?! And why would Burt Reynolds agree to be in the remake? 1. Psycho - There should be a law that Hitchcock cannot be remade. Period.
I've gotta go the tote on Solaris. I REALLY love the remake of that flick. I even have the poster framed in my office. I agree that the original had more of a creep factor, but I found the love story worked better in the Soderbergh movie. I find it really interesting that James Cameron stepped away from directing it to hand it off to Soderbergh (Cameron went on to produce it, and even has a commentary track on the DVD). I would be really curious to see how different the movie would have been.
Having said that I will admit that I found the original too long and drawn out. That's blasphemous to some of the people I've mentioned that too, and I probably should sit down and give it another shot. But the remake was one of the few times I've finished a movie, and instantly watched it again.
...as for "The Departed", I was a little hesitant when I heard it was a remake of Infernal Affairs. But given that it's Martin Scorcese, and taking into account the cast, I can't help but be really excited to see it.

I'll add a secord because it is near and dear to my heart. Brians Song 2001
Mekhi Phifer as Gale Sayers
Sean Maher as Brian Piccolo
No chemistry. No tears. No Billy dee Williams and James Caan. Bad Bad Bad Idea.
"I love Brian Piccolo. And I'd like all of you to love him too. And so tonight, when you hit your knees, please ask God to love him"
*sniff*
My vote is for a movie I never even saw but no way is this ever to be remade.
THE PINK PANTHER
Planet of the Apes. Charlton Heston vs Mark Walberg? Please. I'll even bet Heston would have been better as Dirk Diggler
STAR WARS 1-111 - no remakes but he still raped my childhood

MCP. I agree with you that Psych was not as bad as people say, however Vince Vaughn was poorly cast

Oh, I'm super excited to see it. I just don't like remakes on principle.
