here's a "getting back to my roots" record:

*Nolan Ryan's 7 no-hitters...with situatational hitting...increased reliance on relievers and focus on pitch counts...if a pitcher gets to 2 no-hitters in his career that is something to talk about...

It's funny Jimbo, the first thing that came into my mind was 5,714 strikeouts.

When I was a kid I completely worshiped Nolan Ryan. The guy was a god to me.

Just look at the list:

Nolan Ryan - 5,714
Roger Clemens - 4,502
Randy Johnson - 4,372

The closest guy is an old man who's 1200 STRIKEOUTS BACK!!!

That's just sick.

I thought it was Top 5's... anyhoo:

Pele's 1,281 Goals.

Ya'll have heard of him haven't you? Over the course of his professional career he scored a world record 1,281 goals in 1360 premier level matches. That's an astounding career pace of almost 1 goal per game. Only one other professional soccer player in history has broken the 1,000 goal barrier in a career and that was Arthur Friedenreich, another Brazilian who played during the pre-modern era from 1910-34 in Brazil and scored 1239 goals. There are no modern players who are remotely close to ever breaking any of Pele's major records. Pele also has a world record 92 hat tricks. And during international play scored 97 goals during his 92 international caps. In other words, his game and scoring pace actually elevated when playing at the World Cup level.

He was voted Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee in 1999 yet never participated in the Olympic games.

Wilt Chamberlain's immune system clearly has the ability to fend off any venereal disease. He should shoot for Nobel Prize now in STD reasearch cures.

I think that's because Baseball's the one with the richest history, and it's the sport that is the fondest of its history.
Plus, as hard as it is to imagine, Baseball really was the American Pastime. We loved that sport more than any other game. I think that period of time will always give it an edge to other sports when it comes to the weight of it records.

I nominate Wooden's 88 straight wins as #1, but will have to politely call 'BS' on Gretzky because there is to be no mention of Hockey in the Lodge unless it is a)regarding Hartford Whalers or b)the hotness (including pictures) of the Eastern European girlfriend(s) of said Hockey Player(s) or c) Alyssa Milano
