A lesson in NFL History. (Class in Session)
Does anyone know who Bobby Douglass is? Over the next 2 or 3 weeks you are going to hear his name on Sportscenter, Inside the NFL and on all your Sunday/Monday/Thursday Broadcast.
You may ask why.
Was it because he was a #2 pick as a QB out of Kansas in 1971?
Was is because he was a QB for the Bears, Packers, Chargers and Saints?
Was it because he was 507 of 1178 for 6493yds 36tds and 64ints?
Has anyone even heard Bobby Douglass's name ever?
Maybe you did back in 1990. His name was brought up a few times that season as well. You see in 1990. Randall Cunningham ran for 942 yds. This was 26 yds short of the NFL Record for Rushing Yards by a QB in a single season. 968 yards. Set in 1972 by Bears QB, Bobby Douglass
If you are following this season. Michael Vick is 99 yds short of the record with 5 games left to go. This record falling is a pretty amazing accomplishment in a pass happy/run second world of the NFL Today. Vick most likely will not only break the record, but will probably end up with around 1200yds rushing. This is a Running QB in a League that 20 years ago asked Doug Williams how long he had been a Black QB. Its a pretty amazing feat.
Other records to look for in the last 5 games. (Trying to scoop Elias by at least a week)
You all know that Shaun Alexander is the Single Season Touchdown Scoring leader with 28tds. LT is on pace to beat that record. If he scores 29tds he will also Tie Paul Hornungs 46 year old record for most points in a season with 176. (I had to include a pic of the Powder Blues...Goose Loves the Powder Blues)
Also Brett Favre with 11 TDS will Break Dan Marinos Record for TD passes in a career. I dont think this will happen unless Brett goes off.
Also here is a little NFL Trivia for you. (Next time you call Stump the Band of Baffle The Bastards...this is a great question)
Who is the only QB to be the Career Passing Yardage leader for two different NFL Teams?
I will post the answer tomorrow. I may provide a few hints along the way

man Goose, I just spent the last 20 minutes trying to figure that out...and Blanda is the only name I came up with...give me clue #1
Clue #1.
The player has played in 3 different decades. One of the decades was the 80's
And George Blanda is not correct. Great guess though
Vincente Testaverde?
Ding!!!! Excellent work Jimbo. Vinny is the Career passing leader for The Tampa Bay bucs and The Baltimore Ravens.
Well done
Snow day yesterday took me out of the Lodge. Great post... love the football posts from Goose that bust out the old school stats and give props to the men of the gridiron of old.

Oh and thanks for the kind words about my post. It is apreciated.
It's always nice to get the brain going in the morning with some trivia. Nice work Goose.
Snow day knocked out your power Joe?
Nope, I just took advantage of it and caught up on rest & played with the puppy. The wife and I caught the new Bond also. Very nice!
