What current players are headed to Canton?

So after this weekends Hall of Fame Inductions I decided to make a quick trip around the NFL to determine the candidacy of some of the current stars. I'd seen some articles over thed last few weeks on this, but wanted to add my own input

I used the following four levels

Canton Lock (1st or Second Ballot)
Headed to Canton (Will Eventually get in, although it may take 20 years)
Potential..needs some big years/ and or Titles (Good numbers, but lacks in areas)
Not going Anywhere (Good Career, but not HOF)

Pretty much by the numbers, a player either need to be in the top10 statistically, or needs the Championships

Shaun Alexander, RB, Seattle Seahawks
Headed to Canton
He's 25th on the all-time rushing list, but with 2 or three good season he will be in the top 10 in Rushing and TD's

Champ Bailey, CB, Denver Broncos
Headed to Canton
Best Cover corner...premier Defensive player. Has the INT's but needs a title to cement it

Ronde Barber, CB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Not going Anywhere
Great numbers, but a scheme corner (Cover2). Would need 2 or 3 titles.

Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots
Canton Lock
Three Super Bowl rings and good numbers. Plus he has 4-5 more years. I think he's a lock now..imagine his numbers in 5 years

Derrick Brooks, LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Canton Lock
He redefined the outside linebacker position and dominated for 10+ years.

Isaac Bruce, WR, St. Louis Rams
Headed to Canton
Bruce is seventh in catches with 887 He's seventh in receiving yards with 13,376 yards. He will see a backlog of WR's but should eventually make it.

Tedy Bruschi, LB, New England Patriots
Not going Anywhere.
Good player, but was never the Best defender on his team.

Warrick Dunn, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Not going Anywhere
He'll end as a top 20 RB but lacks the TD's, receptions or Super bowls

Brett Favre, QB, Green Bay Packers
Canton Lock
Legendary....and you can say you saw him play

Tony Gonzalez, TE, Kansas City Chiefs
Canton Lock
Second all time TE. Will get in after Shannon Sharpe

Marvin Harrison, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Canton Lock
He's fourth all time in receptions and has a lot more left. He has his eyes on the top spot and Jerry Rice.

Rodney Harrison, S, New England Patriots
Not going Anywhere
Again a good player...just doesnt have that dominant feel to him. Much like Brian Dawkins of the Eagles

Matt Hasselback QB Seattle Seahawks
Potential..needs some big years/ and or Titles
A solid QB with a Super bowl. Needs some big years or two super bowl rings for consideration

Torry Holt, WR, St. Louis Rams
Potential..needs some big years/ and or Titles
He's still relatively young and playing at a high level, so he has time to get the work done.

Steve Hutchinson, G, Minnesota Vikings
Potential..needs some big years/ and or Titles.
He's been one of the best guards in football -- and the best at times -- the past five years, His needs to sustain it and lead his team to the show

Edgerrin James, RB, Arizona Cardinals
Headed to Canton
He's over 10,000 yards, has the TD's and the pass receptions. He would have been a shoe in if he'd stayed with Indy. His trip to AZ with either get him in, or kick him out

Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
Potential..needs some big years/ and or Titles
He has 466 catches in his first six seasons, and has averaged over 90 each of the past four seasons. He needs either 4 or 5 more huge seasons or some Super bowls to bypass the WR logjam

Walter Jones, T, Seattle Seahawks
Canton Lock
For the past seven years, he has been the best offensive lineman in the league. A Super bowl Win would cement his 1st ballot status

Ty Law, CB, Kansas City Chiefs
Canton Lock
I think Law's 50 picks, 6 TDs and 3 Super bowls will get him in.

Ray Lewis, LB, Baltimore Ravens
Canton Lock
While Im not his biggest fan, his has been the best LB, Defensive and Super bowl MVP

John Lynch, S, Denver Broncos
Not going Anywhere.
A good player with a strong reputation, but not much more..See Teddy B.

Peyton Manning, QB, Indianapolis Colts
Canton Lock
No matter what he does the rest of his career Manning will be in the Hall. Even without the Super Bowl, he was on his way. Now he's a lock

Donovan McNabb, QB, Philadelphia Eagles
Not going Anywhere
He's been a good quarterback, but has he ever been the best in the NFL?

Steve McNair, QB, Baltimore Ravens
Not going Anywhere
He's been an NFL MVP...but really, A HOF?

Randy Moss, WR, New England Patriots
Potential..needs some big years/ and or Titles
His next 3 years with NE will be the telling tale. Without a super bowl and Three good years...he's out

Jonathan Ogden, T, Baltimore Ravens
Canton Lock
He's the second best tackle in the Pace/Jones/Ogden Era.

Terrell Owens, WR, Dallas Cowboys
Headed to Canton
He has the numbers. People might eventually forget what a tool he is.

Orlando Pace, T, St. Louis Rams
Headed to Canton
He wasn't as good as Ogden and he's not as good as Jones. But he has the pro bowls and the Super bowls

Simeon Rice, DE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Potential..needs some big years/ and or Titles
He has Sack numbers (121), but he is really a poor mans Kevin Green.

Warren Sapp, DT, Oakland Raiders
Canton Lock
Rock solid dominant DT, Defensive MVP, Pro Bowls and Super bowl

Rod Smith, WR, Denver Broncos
Not going Anywhere.
He'll get lost in the WR Log Jam

Mike Strahan, DE, New York Giants
Headed to Canton
Single Season sack leader. Over 120 sacks. Has been to Sujper bowl. I think he's in

Fred Taylor, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Not going Anywhere
He's just a mid tier back

LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, San Diego Chargers
Canton Lock
He's Halfway to Emmitts record, He may challenge Jerry's TD record. If he retired today he's be a 1st ballot. Hopefully he wear the powder Blue going in

Brian Urlacher, LB, Chicago Bears
Potential..needs some big years/ and or Titles
He's got a good start, but he has a long way to go to be a Hall of Fame player. Plus he will forever be shadowed by Butkus and singltary, until he wins the big one

Adam Vinatieri, K, Indianapolis Colts
Headed to Canton
It's tough to get kickers into the Hall, but his clutch kicking for the Patriots and colts will get him in, After Gary and Morton Anderson. It will be a long wait.

Kurt Warner, QB, Arizona Cardinals
Not going Anywhere
Despite being a two-time MVP, Warner's was just a flash in the pan. Maybe he can ask Jesus to get him in...because the voters wont.

I love the review Goose... I could have sworn I read the same thing on ESPN. I think John Clayton wrote it.... John Clayton is stealing your ideas!!

Love the article, however I have to disagree with some of the selection...

I base my criteria on if player A's career ended today would status would they be at, and by that I think that:

1) LDT is not a canton lock, good numbers, but nothing in the postseason

2) Rod Smith is headed to Canton, he has rings, numbers and longevity...

3) Orlando Pace is on the outside looking in, hasn't been as durable WJ #71 and wasn't the best tackle in the league during his prime

4) TO, this is anyones guess, my feeling is he's on the outside, but I guess if Irvin gets in, perhaps so does he, even w/o a Lombardi

5) Ogden, see same explanation as #3

6) Edge, stayed in Indy and won the Lombardi=headed to Canton, numbers alone prior to Arizona? I say no...if you're giving it to him based on that then Fred Taylor makes almost the same argument

7) Hutch...outside looking in because he's a douche

8) #8...on the outside looking way in, sorry hometown fans, if Hasselback is being mentioned then Brad Johnson is a lock...

9) #37 has to have two more seasons over 1500 and he's in, right now he's on the fence

but, these are just my thoughts and I don't have a vote for the Hall, which is probably good for the integrity of the game, because Jim Jeffcoat, Moose Johnston, Jay Novaceck, Bill Bates and Mark Stepnoski would have all been in the Hall way before Irvin....

I guess I won't talk trash about #8, seems to be a show stopper...

Thanks for casting a yah' vote for Rod Smith... I would have just come off as a typical homer.

I have to agree with your interp. of #8. He's got a few more things to do.

I disagree on LDT. Numbers without postseason success can get you in if the numbers are head and shoulder above others. Ask Dan Fouts.

I think great OL will always get in. That's why I see all three (ogden, jones and pace) getting in eventually.
I agree with your edge comment. I should have listed his as a tier 3. If he can help turn AZ around that will get him over the hump.

I still think Rod Smith is a severe longshot. He has Rice, Brown Carter, Monk, Reed, ahead of him, and TO Marvin behind him.
I like him as a player and would not question if he did go...

However no WR can go in until Arthur Monk enters. I may boycott Football for all of 2008 if Monk does not go in next year.

#8 comment isn't a showstopper at all. In fact...I couldn't agree more...and then some.

Do I love #8? ....YES. Is he a Hall of Famer? ....NO.

The only thing that gets MH into the HOF is going to be MULTIPLE Super Bowl rings. If he can do that...then he may actually surpass Dave Krieg as the Seahawks career passing leader....until that time, it's not even a relevant discussion.

Oh...and Goose...I'm pretty sure I could drag out a comment from last year at this time when you said that you "...may have to boycott the 2007 season..." if Mr. Monk was passed over.....again.

Words to live by...."always do what you say that you are going to do when you're drunk". (That will either make a man out of you or teach you to shut up.)

...and for the record, I am NOT insinuating in any way that you are A)Not a man or B)That you need to shut up.

Well put Seatown. However I will correct this. I have indeed already boycotted the city of Canton Ohio or any trip to the HOF until Art monk is properly enshrined.

Boycotting the entire game of pro football (No games, no posts,no fantasy football, no Super Bowl or Mother of all Super bowl Party), is drastic however I am still burning that Michael Irvin stands with the yellow Jacket before Art. Its a frickin crime....

You all better hope that Art Gets in..otherwise Meatball Sandwiches could be on hiatus till 2009

in my Teddy KGB accent: "Give the man (Art Monk) his money(yellow jacket)"

I'm backing up my comments made earlier about the Cowboys this year...even boycotting one of my favorite shot glasses...if they win the SB then I'm officially done...

How was the soccer game last night? How is it we dont have a running blog of the evening?

Good Question. I don't know why we don't have a blog. Dude? Do you know why?

The game was one sided but good times were had by all. The Sounders put a hurt on the Rapids of Colorado. 5-0. I believe that even you would have enjoyed the game goose. Though joe would have found some reason not to enjoy it. I imagine it would be somthing like being below him.

I was amazed at the amount of walk up sales. We waited about 15 minutes in a sea of fan waiting to buy tickets. There might have been around 4K at the game? I read to today in the times that there were a few potential investers looking at the validity of an MLS team in Seattle. Kasey Keller was there. He is the starting keeper for the Mens national team. He's a home town boy (Everett).

the team picked a great night to take a shower.

I can't speak for SeaTown put I am sure he had a great time too.

Mark your calanders for Sept 4th, Qwest Field. Sounders vs. FC Dallas in the Semi's.

Definitely a great time. Call it what you will...but I'm really enjoying the world's game.

Last night I watched a couple 'premier classics' on 401.....so I can figure out what bandwagon to jump on and what kit to buy.

Goose....are you interested in going to the Sounders game on Sept. 4th? I will pony up and buy the tix next week when they go on sale....I just need to know how many to get. I don't want to stand in that line again!

Shawn, Fox Soccer Channel just announced that your favorite team: Arsenal is playing Fulham on Sunday at 4am. Remember to set you DVR.

FSC also has a new 30 min show. The show, Premier League classics was on last night. I watched Oldham Athletic vs. Southampton from the 1992-93 season, classic mullets and John Stockton shorts. It’s amazing to see how drastically the game has changed.

We would love to have the Goose out for the game. The next match up will not be so lopsided..

Im really tempted for the 4th, However Im not sure yet what my post labor day practice schedule will be.

Probably 15 bucks each.

Good AP article about Seattle's interest in MLS expansion that ran in the Seattle Times and at ESPN.
