The Train of Death, Goose Edition.

So the train of death has taken a man that I respect and admire. Coach Bill Walsh.

You can read alot about history and his coaching record, you can read about him being an innovator and the creator of the West coast offense. Most of all Bill Walsh was the master motivator. The thinking mans coach. He was shrewd at seeing talent when others did not. He was a motivator, who related the individual battles of football to Boxing.

Walsh also is widely credited with inventing or popularizing many of the modern basics of coaching, from the laminated sheets of plays held by coaches on almost every sideline, to the practice of scripting the first 15 offensive plays of a game

As the head coach of Stanford and the 49ers, he became the creator of the Bill Walsh Coaching tree. This tree shows the legend that he is, the fact that so many coaches learned from him and were able to be successful. It shows that the coach was also a teacher, and taught not just the players, but coaches as well. He changed the game of Football.
To Bill Walsh, Your coaching Excellence is where every coach should strive to be.

You might not like the Niners... but you HAVE to respect the man behind them. Bill Walsh.

Even when he was coaching... you knew you were witnessing a legend. Nice job, Goose. Hope you liked the pic of the day... thought you might like it for your laptop background. Click it for a larger image.

Bill Walsh was more influential than TV revenue, free agency, NFL Primetime, etc in making the NFL the biggest and most popular American Sport...

He basically took the existing rules and applied techniques and transformed them into the "blueprint" for championship football...only to have Brian Billick ruin it with the Ravens championship...

Goose is right that the "normalized" behavior and methods of most coaches...college or Pro are in some way all derived from "The Master" and so engrained in the game that we forget how they ended up there...

Here's to the "Master"...I don't feel so bad about the Sprint Z option Right with Clark in the back of the endzone...

As a kid I hated the 49ers. Anyone guess why?

Now, as I look back at old NFL films footage I'm able to appreciate Walsh and his innovations. His teams were well oiled machines on offense and defense.
