Dream Job?
Well, surfin' the web and I find out that the former Cougar B-ball coach is heading for Hoosierville.
Calvin Sampson is replacing Mike Davis at Indiana. Why would you make this movie...several reasons...one it's Indiana a basketball haven. Two it's still one of the premo places to recruit and it's part of one of the great basketball conferences in the nation. Good luck on being under a microscope.
Check this out if you want the full story. Question was Sampson the best you could get for the job?

Sampson is a great basketball coach. Great motivator, teacher of fundamentals, preaches character and doing the little things, and he is a dynamic personality (which reflects his outstanding recruiting record). Indiana apparently wanted to start new traditions in the Hoosier state (not going after alumnus Steve Alford) and Sampson is a good start.
Ha.....Sampson is good in the regular season, but his record in the "second season" is pathetic. Great coach....yes....great role model....again, yes.....coach that will not "rock the boat"....absolutely.
Looks like I can count out the Hoosiers from any Final Four appearance over the next several years.....if only it was that easy to predict every game!
I think Sampson is better coach at this point than Alford (not to say that he couldn't end up that way, but for next season, Sampson gives them the best chance at winning the Big Ten)...also, how great would it be to see UCLA/Indiana and UNC back on top of the NCAA Bball world...not good for some, but I'm a believer in classic schools with a good winning percentage is good for the game...
I thought OK did a Final Four run?...anyhow...he still better than Alford in that category anyway...that's the problem with all Big 10 and 12 schools, the inability to win on the road...
They finished 3rd in '02 after losing to Indiana in the Semis...Talkin' about if you can't beat them, join them!
that was the amazing thing about this move...basically, IU has done everything OU has done in the since the '94-'95 season...I don't see Sampson having any bigger impact than Davis, now Davis might head to ASU and ramp up competition for the Pac 9
they were talkin' on radio today about Rick Majerus goin' to ASU pending a physical to see if he is healthy enough to take the job.
Wow. That's great for the Pac-9. Majerus is a great coach. Better than Sampson, just much, much fatter.
Majerus isn't going to be able to coach for longer than 2-3 years...the time it'll take to get that program up and going...
