The BBoy Cup
The feud between France and Korea has been going on in hip hop culture throughout most of the new millenium. Both countries hold elite status for their breaking skills, they truly perform on a world level. You will understand why this has become more of a sport after viewing. France brings out classic skills to contrast with high powermoves into their style; Korea dishes out unreachable versatility and stamina in their air flares and dynamic crew attacks. The top crews battled it out last month May 26, 2006 in France. Both crews Gamblers (KOR) and Pockemon (FRA) consistently have been making it to the finals of the Battle of the Year under different crew names but usually composed of the same world-class dancers.
Also, in terms of DJing skills, France break DJ's maintain a very purist and revolutionary approach when applying their turntable skills. Most of the beats employed by them exclude the stereotypical electro sound and seek out the effervescent tribal 60's/70's funk beat while throwing in some New Wave style rock in homage to the 80's uplift of the bboy into the mainstream.
This battle is the most incredible thing you will see. It starts off in high camaraderie but breaks off into vicious unrelenting team attacks. Korea begins with a one-legged air flare. This is the new age of breaking that has been kept out of the mainstream beyond windmills and turtles.
A previous vid features the Meme Pas Mal (FRA) vs Rivers Crew (KOR).
This I believe is the beginning of the feud in 2004 BOTY Finals with Korea calling out France.
I can't even emphasize how ludicrous these battles are. Hip Hop is truly world wide, and especially exceptional and surprising when outpaced by the American standard. If you dont' watch it now, I RECOMMEND WATCHING IT AT HOME.

Um.....yeah
Duke...bringing it in true Bboy style..."Electric Bugaloo!!!"
iTS more than electric boogaloo now. In continuation of our hatred of the dutch; Seattles own world crew Massive Monkeys defeated Dutch Bboys earlier this year. I had the pleasure of watching Massive at the West Coast Semi-Finals @ Showbox against California in 2005. They have excellent style but not the power/gymastics of FRA/KOR. We did win the Europe finals in London '04.
It's no Dance Dance Revolution.
The Koreans definitely beat the Frenchmen in that battle. Although I have to say the France 3-person mirroring move where the guy in front did his moves with his hands while the 2 guys in back did them with their feet was teh dopest sequence of the battle.... that said, besides the slow-mo stuff, the Koreans were relentless... which is why we are all fans of the Korean Futbol Team too.
