John Byron Nelson, Jr. (February 4, 1912 – September 26, 2006)
As the Lodge eulogizer I thought I would give a tip of the cap to John Byron Nelson, Jr who passed away today at the age of 94. Nelson is arguably the greatest golfer who ever lived. He is mostly remembered for having won 11 consecutive tournaments and 18 total tournaments in 1945. Nelson's record of 113 consecutive cuts made is second only to Tiger Woods' 142. He later retired to Texas at the age of 34 to become a rancher.
In 1968 the Dallas Open stop on the PGA Tour was renamed the Byron Nelson Golf Classic, and this tournament — most recently known as the EDS Byron Nelson Championship — remains the only tour stop named after a professional golfer.
Here's to making the game look so Damn easy...

Oh John Byron... i barely knew thee... at all.
I'm trying to decide the order of best Train random-obit posts, Bruno Kirby or Lord Byron?
Oh, I thought you were going to tell me what a bad eugoogalizor I am.
I'm currently working on a rough draft for T.O's eugoogally.
please make it short and perhaps just a footer...
Wow. Pretty low fellas, way to keep up the proud tradition of cynicism in the Lodge.
With this latest cry for attention I doubt the man will ever play again in the NFL.
He will play again. Unfortunately that is the way of the NFL.
I'd be on the other side of the fence for any other player in the NFL, this includes every-member of the Washington Redskins...but he represents in one person everything I hate about professional sports...
According to Deion Sanders, TO is now denying that this is how it went down.

"THAT'S MY BOY!!!"
The Sun tabloid wrote on Wednesday that American Freddy Adu will sign for Premiership newboys Reading in January. He will first be loaned from DC United for half a year, after which he will be sold for 7.5 Million Euros.... He's making the leap to play with the big boys...
ok, now back to other non futbol related news...
TO's personality does not lean towards suicidal attempts of any kind... that's why I would tend to agree with Neon on this issue. His ego is too big to want to end his life, because his person is the best thing ever in his mind.
The media is friggin crazy, we all know that. The coverage this morning interviewing the EMT's was ridiculous. Com'n! ESPN is becoming like CNN... overhyped BS.
He might not have wanted to end his life but he sure wanted to bring attention to himself and he is the master of manipulation. So I wouldn't put it past him to do something this far fetched.
good for Freddy...my money is that Reading is going to stay up in the Premiership...lots of good young talent...and another American at the GK position...
It's about time Freddy realized that this is what he needs to do. this is something that Landon needed to do along time ago but he has to be a big fish in a little pond. I can't wait to see the US team in a few years. With Convey working with Adu at Reading and Maybe Hanemman at GK we might have something brewing.
The US squad isn't going to improve playing against C-level Latin American and other lower quality American players in the MLS unfortunately...I think they can get there someday...I just dont' think that day is today...
I agree that it's the best move for Adu at this point in his career. We tend to forget that the kid is still a teenager. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for him to get acclimated to the more physical Premier game though.
Have you guys checked the ESPN report that Shaun alexander is going to try to play sunday?
