Someone had to post something.

I know as far as the lodge is concerned, when it comes to football I ride the short bus. Still...it'd be just sad if we didn't give the Hawks QB situation just a little bit of space on the lodge So here's Jaynee's take on the whole thing.

It is a dark time for the rebellion....
It's like the dominoes were perfectly put into place to make this season a struggle. The Madden & Chunky soup curse both came true and, for at least one week, will actually overlap.

Losing Matt is obviously huge. He's spent years becoming proficient in this offense. There's no one else I would rather have out on that field.

Having said that, I like Seneca. I think the guy has got a lot of potential, and I'll be really interested to see what he can do with a little practice under his belt. I'd like to see Holmgren encourage Wallace to feel more free to scramble out of the pocket and go for a rush once in a while. The guys got speed, and I'd love to see him break out for a a few runs.

It seems like everywhere I read, I keep seeing that the Seahawks magic number this season will probably be 10 wins in order to get to the playoffs. We're 4-2 right now, with 10 games to go, so we need to aim for at least a 6-4 record. Assuming Matt will be back after 4 weeks, here's what we're looking at:

@ Kansas City: This will probably be Seneca's toughest game. No Shaun yet, and it's an away game.

Home vs. Oakland: Holmgren expects Shaun & Pork Chop back by this game. Ideally this will be a big moral booster of a game. I'll be in Vegas for this one, so if anyone wants me to place some bets, just let me know.

Home vs. St Louis: A tough one. A win here would be huge.

@ San Francisco: A very winable game. Lets just hope San Fran keeps doing what it does best...wallowing in mediocraty. We may even have Matt by then, which would be great.

I realize that I'm glazing over some other glaring issues (Offensive Line, lack or a running game, our sporadic defense) that are starting to feel like big worry areas. I just figured I'd get the conversation going....

(non-football comment) jayne - i downloaded all the Civil War series to date so far. Really good political commentary - even down to the illegal detainment of Speedball in the Neutral Zone. It also touched on something I didn't even know happenned: "M-Day" "decimation"? Obviously a big chain of events has been going on.

I'm really surprised how well the whole Universe storyline is going on. Usually, these kind of big overarching stories don't have true presence without some alter-verse stuff going down. Obviously Joe Quesada has some balls to push for a huge undertaking.

I got nothing on the civil war, although I like your points about the Hawks...and for what it's worth:

This is what the term "adversity" means, and it can either kill or enhance a season depending on the reaction of the coaches and players...

QB: Yes this is a worse-case scenerio with Wallace, and something that I think all CHawk fans never wanted to think about...does Wallace have skills to play in the NFL...yes...however, the coaching staff has to get creative in handling what he can and more importantly what he can't do...

We need to seem him spread out more and out of the pocket...there were numerous scenerios in Sunday's game where a bootlegging Wallace would've kept the Minnesota D honest and kept them out of our backfield...they have to move him around and keep it simple...that may be tough because:

OLine: I'm not going to sit here and take more shots at them, but the future of the Hawks season depends on them stepping up, I'll quote Rick Pitino: "Hutch isn't walking through that door..." Pork Chop isn't going to instantly change this Oline...they've got to hold blocks on the pass and get a push on runs...if they don't, nothing else really matter...the gauntlet has been laid...

WR/RB: Wallace has to find his guy, which appears to be either Hackett/Jackson and get on the same page fast...Morris, well he's a Duck and doesn't know how to step up in big games (partially kidding, but you can't rely on a poor man's Dave Meggett to get you to the Super Bowl), so we'll wait for Shaun

D: Ken Hamlin has to learn to keep his spot and not take bad angles that lead to 95 yard TD runs...the system works, but and Defense will get taken once guys get out of position and miss tackles...this is not scheme, but personnel

Speciality Teams: In Matt's absence they have to find a way to put this offense in a short field or generate points...

This weeks game is dependent on the Hawks keeping the score low and not forcing #15 to make the last second drive. In short, the only way they can do this is put the chip back on their shoulder and play like they have something to win instead of something to lose.

So, did anyone take the under on when I would crawl back out of the hole to comment on a Seahawks post?

I must say, my headache is still with me from Sunday.....that's almost 48 hours with a hangover.....dammit that blows.

Jim, I agree....wholeheartedly. Am I a bit upset at the way this season is transpiring? You bet your ass I am. Am I folding up the tents and talking about the frickin' stoopid, gay ass curse mumbo jumbo? EFF NO.

Good teams find ways to win games. They fight when everyone calls them soft. They win when nobody gives them a chance. Last time I checked, they all had balls and called themselves men. Now's the time boys....let's see what you are made of.....and given the flash of some actual tenacity shown during the second half of the Rams game, we know what these guys are capable of bringing to the table.

Last season, this team lost on a field goal on the road in DC...and then, outside of TWO dramatic wins to the Giants and the Cowboys, they didn't face ANY adversity last year. They walked through the NFC and into the Super Bowl. It's always tougher the second time around because guys roll into your QB's legs when they get a chance because they now know that your QB can win the game by himself.

NOW, to be brief. THE most important game that Hasselbeck is going to miss is the November 12th game vs. the Rams. The next 2 weeks are pivotal because of that. Seneca has 2 weeks to prove that he can win an NFL game. He has 2 weeks to find "his guy". He has 2 weeks to get comfortable. The rest of the team has 2 weeks to step the f*ck up! Somebody has to be the goddamn man...and I think it has to be the "D"....because they have been piss poor.

Then, on November 12th....after winning 2 games with our backup QB....we'll all be back in Seahawks Stadium screaming our ASSES OFF for the backup QB in a game that could very well decide the division. We have to hold serve against divisional opponents, because we aren't going to get any favors from anyone else...and my days of watching games and rooting for other teams to win just so the Hawks can make the playoffs are behind me. We are still driving this bus.

I think I'm going to go back in the hole now...

Just remember...you have a friend in the Lodge...and you know I love the passion...and remember the #1 goal is not to win the SB, but just win your division, then you win the next game then the NFC Championship and then....

Oh, I know.....believe me. I'm not ranting about you all in particular. I just like to rant....but it's more of a rally cry than anything else.

And with all that's going on....I'm more focused on the division than ever. That's why I could almost give 2 shits about the next week or two......the Rams game is big. We need to win another 5 or 6 games and that should do it as far as the NFC West goes. Then, we'll go from there.

Seneca Wallace is big time in the Lovato/Ryan household.... That's all need to say.
