NHL bandwagon...still plenty of room!
So last year, I really started getting into hockey. I don't know if it was because a Candian team was in the Cup (Stanley Cup) or because it was just a little something different that none of my friends were into.
So I thought about having a weekly write up or whenever I have a chance to write on the blog, on what is happening in the NHL. The season is about six weeks old and most of the teams have played about thirteen games. I think you get a sense of who is coming out of the gate quickly and which teams need a good kick with some skates.
The team that really jumps out today is the team with the uglist uniforms: The Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres have had some good teams but this team has come out strong especially a 9-1 killling of the Flyers a few weeks ago moved their record to 10-0-0 tying the league record. The Flyers are one of those teams that you are unsure of. They are team that beat Eastern Conference favorite NY Rangers and then put out a performance like they did against the Sabres.
Another team that is intersting is the Anaheim Might Ducks. The Might Ducks haven't lost a regulation game yet, 11-0-4. This is a good chance to break down the point system. You get two points for a win. So for the Ducks, that's 22 points. If your team goes to overtime, you get a point. So the Ducks lead the league in points with 26. The Ducks have a few players that make them really dominate and able to shut teams down. Like most sports, defense wins games. The Ducks have a great backline with Chris Pronger and Scott Neidermayer. Pronger joined the Ducks from the Edmonton Oilers. The Ducks also have some great forwards. Andy McDonald and Teemu Selanne. Together they have 25 points (9 goals, 16 points). Both players and the two defensemen talked about are among the leaders on the team for points.
The last team I'm going to talk about is the Pittsburgh Penguins. They have three young and upcoming players. First of all Pittsburgh is second behind the Devil of New Jersey with 15 points (7-4-1). The Pens have second year guy Sidney Crosby who leads the team in points, with six goals and 13 assists for 19 points. The other two of the threesome is Evgeni Malkin who became the first player in NHL history to score goals in the first six games of his career. He has seven goals and five assists, for second on the team in points. The third guy was a guy who was a late addition to the roster is Jordan Staal. He has played in twelve games and has five goals and an assist. He has fit in nicely on this young team.
So here are my five teams I'm watching:
1) Atlanta Thrashers - I watched these guys the other night and was very impressive. They are second in the league in points.
2) Toronto - My first of the Canadian teams. A name that always sticks out with this team is Darcy Tucker.
3) Minnesota Wild
4) Vancouver Canucks
Three and Four are in the NW Division and Minnesota started off hot but Vancouver has not faded away.
5) Dallas Stars - Lindros has found a home with Medano and the Stars are soaring!

although I have no idea what you're talking about...I love the passion...when are we going to get a breakdown of the original six or why Gretzky is killing the game?...I'm glad to see you find your niche...
I don't even know what Jimmy is talking about but I have to second the Dudes passion for the NHL. A sport that has been relegated to being shown on a TV channel that sandwiches the games between UFC and survivor re-runs.
I have to say I do enjoy the CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, you get quality eastern and western conference games.
I'm glad to see hockey on the lodge. It is one of the few sports I actually love. Seattle was the first American team to ever win the Stanley Cup in case you didn't know. If the Sonics move away, that might increase our chances of getting an actual NHL team and taking back the cup.
