Since you have all graduated Football 101...Lets start Football 102

So I was watching Washington Beat Dallas on NFL Sunday ticket and several times I heard references to the NFL Passer Rating System.

I was not sure if the Lodge knew how the system worked

Four categories are used as a basis for compiling a rating:
• Percentage of completions per attempt
• Average yards gained per attempt
• Percentage of touchdown passes per attempt
• Percentage of interceptions per attempt

The average standard, is 1.000. The bottom is .000. To earn a 2.000 rating, a passer must perform at exceptional levels, i.e., 70 percent in completions, 10 percent in touchdowns, 1.5 percent in interceptions, and 11 yards average gain per pass attempt. The maximum a passer can receive in any category is 2.375.

For example, take Peyton Mannings record season when he completed 336 of 497 passes 67.6pct 4557yds 49TDs 10 INT's
The four calculations would be:
• Percentage of Completions — 67.60 percent. Subtract 30 from the completion percentage (37.60) and multiply the result by 0.05. The result is a point rating of 1.880
Note: If the result is less than zero (Comp. Pct. less than 30.0), award zero points. If the results are greater than 2.375 (Comp. Pct. greater than 77.5), award 2.375.

• Average Yards Gained Per Attempt — 4557 yards divided by 497 attempts is 9.20. Subtract three yards from yards-per-attempt (6.20) and multiply the result by 0.25. The result is 1.550.
Note: If the result is less than zero (yards per attempt less than 3.0), award zero points. If the result is greater than 2.375 (yards per attempt greater than 12.5), award 2.375 points.

• Percentage of Touchdown Passes — 49 touchdowns in 497 attempts is 9.86 percent. Multiply the touchdown percentage by 0.2. The result is 1.972.
Note: If the result is greater than 2.375 (touchdown percentage greater than 11.875), award 2.375.

• Percentage of Interceptions — 10 interceptions in 497 attempts is 2.01 percent. Multiply the interception percentage by 0.25 (0.542) and subtract the number from 2.375. The result is 1.872.
Note: If the result is less than zero (interception percentage greater than 9.5), award zero points.

The sum of the four steps is (1.880 + 1.550 + 1.972 + 1.872) 6.768. The sum is then divided by six (1.211) and multiplied by 100. In this case, the result is 121.1. This same formula can be used to determine a passer rating for any player who attempts at least one pass.

PS. That is the NFL Record 121.1

Class dismissed.
Enjoy the monday night game

Best records to FFF playoffs! I think 2.0's topspot is up for grabs to the most ambitious and strategic over the next few weeks. Who's going to join the rumble!?!

gOOse, I am obviously not good at math and choose my lineup with little pictures on a rubiks cube. I am now slightly more knowledgeable about this powerful formula.

looks like 2.0 is still going to keep it based on points, but you've come a long way since the Diablos Duke, you've put together a good squad...all these compliments are negated if you beat me next week...

This might be to much for my feeble mind to comprehend in the AM hours. Though I imagine I have the brain power to computer R. Grossman's QB rating.

Best quote of the weekend about the colts over the weekend was:

" until they win a super bowl this is all just exercise " ]

Jimbo, Colston is really shining for you only through benefit of Brees. I see St. Louis losing next weekend so don't expect Jackson to perform very well. As for Javon Walker, I can't take anything away from him. I expect a narrow win again this week. As Murderball Lynnwood takes on Futbol Amerikan.

My FFF rubiks cube does not equate with your predictions.

Lamont will function more as a TE tonite. Branch will get 3TDs. Dr. Seuss will QB over 135pts, and Seneca Wallace will have 70 rushing yards of his own.

I thought this was funny when I read it this morning, god love Peter King.

Factoid That May Interest Only Me

The John Cougar Mellencamp "This is Our Country'' Chevy jingle, which every single one of us knows every word to, was aired on NBC four times in a 37-minute span of the 8 o'clock hour Sunday night.

If anyone was watching the game they understand this.

Obviously the playback of "This is Our Country" is a huge effort to reassert identity under huge cultural threat from our neighbors to the north: Canada. With their many Canadian entertainers subtly enrapturing us we have no other tool left but heartland music.
