The Movie Poop
Unfortunately, I saw a preview for some real crap and was asking myself "Who laid that sh*t!?" Maybe you're just as baffled as me, but the new film Stardust reeks of buttery popcorn/hotdog/burrito waste from last year's Mordor geek crew.
Never has there been an adventure quite like this....where Robert De Niro wastes a lot of time when he could have been doing something different. Let's not forget Michelle Pfeiffer + Claire Danes = a step closer to the B-list because of this film.
In the vein of things much calmer, wittier, and geekier is Rocket Science. More reality-based than Rushmore, less slapstick than Napoleon Dynamite, and a hint of puberty's nostalgia make this movie THE SH*t for this weekend.
New Regency is close to a deal with the Mark Gordon Company to adapt "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" into a live-action film. Gordon has been developing the pic, based on the popular 1980s Japanese animated TV series, comicbooks and toy line, with Justin Marks penning the script.
Should the deal close, project would be one of the company's more high-profile efforts since Robert Harper took over as chairman-CEO of Regency Filmed Entertainment earlier this year. Interest in the property hit a high after "Transformers" turned into a box office juggernaut, raking in nearly $300 million to date.
Marks' take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico. Five ragtag survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders. (Source)
Everybody knows future apocalypse storlines make for ultimate movies. If the Road Warrior says so, it has to be true.
Although, I do worry about Right Wing backlash at Tranformers & Voltron's renewed popularity.

While I can see why someone wouldn't necessarily like 'Stardust', I have to disagree with you. I thought it was one of the best films I've seen all year actually (Rotten Tomatoes is currently listing it as certified fresh with a 75% rating).
Also...see Superbad! Holy @#$%! I dare say it was funnier than Seth Rogan's other flick 'Knocked Up'.
obviously pirates vs. witches appeals to different people. to each his own.
Superbad! i will try.
If pirates vs. witches was what you saw, then mayve we saw different movies...
The flick had a similar feel for me to the Princess Bride (though Stardust is darker and not as quotable). That's really not going to be anyones cup of tea, but I do think you sell it short. As far as fantasy flicks go, I'd take this over Narnia or the Potter flicks.
WOW. Thats a bold statement considering I saw Don Corleone as pirate. I just don't think I can accept that.
I once saw Robert De Niro doing a Shakespeare reading from Hamlet on tv. Elizabethan English and Brooklyn do not match. Admittedly, the film and story may be good. I love Neil Gaiman, but I just do not feel the casting of this film.
Its sort of like someone casting Freddie Mercury to play Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. (sort of awesome, but mistmatched none the less.)
It's funny because I actually enjoyed the hell out of Deniro's performance. I just really got a sense that he was having fun with the role. Maybe I'm just so used to seeing him phone in performances lately. I thought it was a fun role.
And I think with a role like that you can break type. I mean we say the word pirate, but was are talking about a pirate who captains a flying ship and catches lightning in a fantasy world. You're not designated to a particular mold in that scenario.
Do I even get involved in this debate?...me thinks not...
Sorry...should we change the subject to soccer?
no...we can talk about Firefly if you want...
KHAN!!!!!!!!
so yeaaa....after the Transformers appetizer, Voltron should be really really cool....
thx, goose.
2 Disc Special Edition of Serenity is being released on 8/21/7.
Still no word of a new edition of 'The Chronicles of Riddick'.
Does the second disc finally contain the plot or any acting ability?
j/k...(I actually didn't mind the film and/or series, I felt I had to interject a little Goose comeback)
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay game release PC & XBOX IGN Editor's Choice: 9.3
release 2008> Chronicles of Riddick : Assault on Dark Athena for PS3 & XBOX360, likely going to be "the sh*t".
Serenity video game: still attempting to get game on at least a cell phone.
(no console company has requested a sequel, since a first console game does not exist.)
Fact: Vin Diesel's name is an anagram for "I End Lives."
Serenity MMORPG due in 2008

And I think your video game logic must mean that the The Phantom Menace must be the greatest film ever, because there's been dozens of games released around that steaming turd of a film.

Ask your DM if you can equip that item for the RPG or if you need high-level XP first.
uh...you know what a MMORPG is right? It's not like D&D (though there is a Serenity RPG as well).
I was so much more content talking about Stardust...Serenity could have made hundereds of millions of dollars and we'd still be bickering. I think I just cringe at the thought of it being compare to that horrible riddick flick.
Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue...
I'm sure you've played this, which is what i was referencing.
and don't expect much content from a free-MMORPG jayne.
The Riddick games are actually produced well enough that you have to pay to play them.
As far as Voltron is concerned -- I have zero interest in seeing this film -- unless the Robot Chicken guys did it.
Actually the most recent info I've heard is that it won't be free (I seem to recall though that there might be a demo-type thing that will be free though).
Anyway...
Superbad is an awesome film & y'all should see it in theathers (Yes, that means paying to see a movie, Train. Trust me, it's worth it)
Voltron Pants Party?
What ever happened to making movies based on original screenplays? What's next....the frickin' Thundercats' live action flick? ....maybe the movie can be about how they washout as superheros and get jobs on Broadway....
and thus concludes this season's episode of: Casey Firefly vs. Riddick Devin.
I've been waiting to see Superbad since i first saw the trailer a while back. Definitely, definitely.
...McLovin'...
Actually, Warner Brothers picked up the rights to make a Thundercats movie back in June. Some guy named Paul Sopocy is writing the script. No director attached.

Unedited Trailer - Superbad
Holy shite.....unfrickin'-believable. Are they going to go the Broadway route? ....I'm envisioning a Capital One-esque type deal with the burned out Thundercats trying to adapt to modern society.
"Anything else would be uncivilized"
Now this is an even worse idea:
Enter the Dragon is being remade...ugh.

I hate Becca.
My style?... the initial script makes me wonder why they're calling it a remake...
when was the last ime we hit the 30 comment mark?
Nice to see you back MCP. I was going to say something Serenity-like but Jimmy filled in nicely.
Stardust has a semi-naked Michelle Pfieffer. This moves any movie up Goose's Scale of Quality, regardless of bad acting or crappy plot.
please reference Lodge history 06.07.07
So, if were talking about the Premiership starting. Why is there a pick of David Villa of Valencia?
Jimbo saw the picture and said to himself, "That's soo hot!"
Adjusted, Train... you happy!!!
YABOS!
That right there...quality.
that could be in the running for Lodge Daily Photo of the year...in fact some would say that is the title contender...well done...
Thank you... thank you. It's definitely a winner. I for one will be watching the Sven-Goran Eriksson led City versus WestHam at 10AM. Should we get together for a Lodge breakfast barclays meetup?
Shhhhhhhhh!
Be vewy, vewy quiet....I'm hunting Wabbits!
We can't stop here, this is bat country!
