Breakfast Of Champions

It's early. It was a late night. Maybe you spent last night having a few too many pints, maybe you were at an all night comic book trading session, maybe you decided to hang out with some ManU studs and throw a little pants party. The point is...you are tired, and when you wake up...do you hope that ther is Folger's in your cup? OK, maybe not Folger's...but the simple fact of the matter is, ever since the middle of the 17th century, coffee has been the morning beverage of choice. (Incidentally, the breakfast beverage of choice before the mid-1600's was actually beer...and it doesn't matter who you are, that is just awesome.) Does it really surprise you that the big guy would be there to support you in your time of need? Holding your piping hot morning beverage of choice...you can always count on him. God bless you Chewbacca. You are there for me every morning and you will undoubtedly be there to help out OJ once again.

WOW...I heard the rumors last night about the Special One, but this move is unprecidented...poor Train probably won't know until he unpacks his bags tonight...or will he?

This changes the match on Sunday a little bit now doesn't it?...any guess on how long it take Barca to sign him if the Dutch Spider Man fail to win either the Champs League or La Liga?

Great post. Jose leaving is the news of the month though. Unbelievable! I can't wait to see Train's reaction... although he'll probably crawl into his bed and pull a Googs for a week instead.

I can just see Train doing a Mark Renton coming down from smack watching the the Special One crawl along the ceiling while he's sweating bullets and screaming at the top of his lungs...

Just back into town and Jimbo breaks the news.... I'm really speechless right now.

I've missed there last two matches and am still in a vacation daze.

I knew this would happen I just didn't think it would be today.

So explain this to a non soccer fan?

Well....somebody can clean up the mess....but from a new soccer fan to a non soccer fan.....the coach of a team that was favored to challenge for the Premier League title, as well as the Champions League, just quit about 1 month into the season....

Obviously a lot going on behind the scenes that I'm just now reading about.....but an analogy might be.....imagine if the coach of one of the teams 'favored' to go to the Super Bowl quit tomorrow....

Oh....and it's Train's favorite team....

To put it in NFL terms. This would be like Billy B quiting the Pats. A great coach leaving a franchise that was pretty much in the dumps before he came in.

I fear that the team will regress this year. I hope they get a solid coach for next year. I am voting for Juan De Ramos of Sevilla.

I read that JT and Jose had a bust up and once that happened the end was near. Once you lose your captain you're done.

I did get sick of the drama and sick of the style of play. I will miss Jose and his press conferences though.

I still love the team and would never give up on them though I know this weekend and the rest of the season will be wicked hard. Who knows maybe we can go on a nice run.

So it's sort of like when Jim Lee became the penciller for the flagship X-Men #1 at Marvel, and then dropped out and left Stan lee hanging to go into Image Comics...

No, there's not really a comic comparison, Devo. But nice try.

Goose, after Mourinho led his Portuguese club Porto to back to back league titles and the Champions League title in 2004, Jose left to become coach of the Chelsea club in 2004. Mourinho then led Chelsea to the following titles:

Mourinho's Chelsea honours

2004/2005 - Premier League Champions, League Cup winners

2005/2006 - Premier League Champions

2006/2007 - League Cup winners, FA Cup winners

So it's a huge loss for Chelsea. A proven winner and controversial coach leaving the club during a time when they are still at the top of the "League Table" in the Premiership. Hope that helps.

I found this great montage on a soccer blog that I read a lot.

It is an attempt to sum up everything that was amazing about a one of a kind manager...Jose Mourinho.

Now it all makes sense.
Train, since I dont have feelings one way or another, I'll say Im sorry for the loss of the coach of your team. I know how it feels.

And to everyone else that obviously roots for other teams....well BOOYAH!!!

Here's a decent comic comparison. It's like Daredevil. It was a crap title for years and years, then Frank Miller showed up, and the thing became to coolest thing in the world, then out of nowhere he left and the title went right back to sucking for years & years (at least until the smith, bendis, & brubaker era)

Goose, I forgot to mention that Chelsea hasn't lost at home in over 3 years... 60+ matches undefeated at home. Crazy streak.

And again, MCP... Daredevil is not a good comparison, and here's why:

It's unlikely that Chelsea will "suck" now with Mourinho gone. Even the Yankees still compete when they haven't been winning titles. The Blues have a ton of high-priced talent and will still be dangerous.
