How to defeat a Top Ten Team
Tyrone Willingham and the 1-0 Huskies have the impossible task of going into Norman Oklahoma and trying to defeat the #10 Sooners.
All roads point to a 1-1 start. But there is a simple formula to winning the "Unwinable" game
So to T-Dub. I give you the formula. If mixed perfectly. You can create an upset that goes down in Husky Lore
Mix the following together
1 part Pregame Speech.
Its us against the world. This is the time to pull out your fire and brimstone speech. Maybe even shed a small tear.
Add in a large helping of special teams.
Really work the Return game in practice. Throw in a reverse on a kickoff. Nail down your wedge, lanes, and blocking responsibility.
Also work the Blocked Punt. It is the most devastating play in football. Try to Block the Sooners 1st 2 or 3 punts.
Mix in Controlling the line of scrimmage
Its an overused Cliche, but this will win the game. The O and D line need to Control. They may be more talent, but Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
and finally...
Throw your best punches early.
Work your bread and butter plays and mix in some trickery. Get them back on their heel. If you can get 1 or 2 scores quick, you take the fans out of the game. This changes their game plan and forces the offense to play catch up.
Upsets happen. And who says it cant happen in Norman OK.
If history is made, I'll be the 1st one to say "2-0 I told you so"

Goose, breaking down the game tape. Love it! It'll be a huge task for the Huskies to overcome in Norman... but crazier things have happened. Having their 3rd string TE start doesn't help things, though.
Kirton isn't a third string...they actually had a three-headed monster at the TE position...but now just one head and a backup redshirt freshman in Tim Williams, who was Tdub's first recruit, stealing him away from Oregon...and they just had to move a deep-string WR to the third spot...
The problem is this, Kirton is a dynamite threat from the TE spot as a receiver, but his blocking lacks something to be desired, he was a RB in HS and set state records after rushing for over 5,000 yards in his career...bad news? when you rush that much you don't block that often...so he filled out and becomes a threat at the TE position when you can offset him with a blocking TE on the other side, that's no longer an option with Lewis and Gottleib out for 4 weeks both....
Your points about the upset are valid and their is a little part of me that believes and this team may be ready for a big win, but after what I saw last week, I still remain skeptical...
Perhaps it is playing down to their competition, which in this case would result in playing up, but the D-cord completely misplayed the 2nd half of the opening game, what half will he screw up on Saturday?...
On a team that lacks on-field leadership it's hard to see an upset...I hate sounding like Ted Miller, but I need the coaching staff to prove to me that they can finally out gameplan the opposing side, something I haven't seen for an entire game in going on 4 seasons...

Agreed Jimbo. If the Dawgs are going to sit back in a freakin' zone type D without getting pressure on the QB, they are dead in the water.
The wide open, intermediate depth stuff in the middle of the field in those situations just makes QB's salivate.
especially young QB's like OK is going to through out...I have this feeling though that OK isn't going to need to throw a whole lot to put up points...Peterson might have 250+ total yards by the end of the 3rd quarter...
I'm also afraid for Standback once he realizes that Bob Stoops recruits bigger, stronger and faster LB's than Dick Tomey...and that the spread option right and left keepers are going to really hurt this week...
