That Guy Surprise & Seattle Stern Sighting

One of the more popular That Guy's from Jimbo's forever epic (and hopefully returning soon) series, Peter Stormare, is back again. And this time he's pimping Volkswagon. So my question is this... once a That Guy has moved into commercials... Does it add to his That Guy credibility or take away from his status as a That Guy?

In other news coming out at the end of the business day on a busy Thursday, NBA Commish David Stern visited Seattle today. David Stern [left in picture] commissioner of the National Basketball Association, is greeted by Tim Ceis [right in pic] Deputy Mayor of Seattle and Wally Walker, Seattle SuperSonics general manager, center, as they arrive to testify before the Washington Senate Ways & Means Committee in Olympia, Wash., Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006. The SuperSonics play their home NBA basketball games at the Key Arena. Stern asked Washington state lawmakers Thursday for tax money to renovate the Seattle SuperSonics' arena, saying there could be consequences if the state doesn't act.

So now the commish is starting to push Seattle a little for a new stadium. We touched on this briefly a couple of weeks back. What do you guys think after some more time to read up on the situation? The SG thinks that Stern has gone soft after meeting with him for a chat a couple of weeks back. But I still think Stern has a lot of influence & this visit could spurn the city to move for renovations.

I thought we talked about posting Youtube links. Do you not listen to a thing the lodge says Joe?

It's not a link, it's a embedded player. I made sure I didn't put a link in the post. What's wrong with your computers at Pemco?

Okay, I changed the embedded player to a Google video. Sorry about that. I thought the embedded players were okay, but I'll stay away from YouTube altogether for now on.

About the Sonics...I've got to honest, the way they are going about this whole arena thing just keeps turning me off to their plight more and more.
At the rate they're going I think most of the city isn't going to give a damn if they stay or if they go.
The Sonics have not shown the level of diplomacy and willingness to work with the city/state that is needed for something like this. The Seahawks and Mariners were both very smart in how they went about getting their new stadiums (of course it also helped that the Kingdome was obviously a sub-par stadium to even the harshest critic).
This is an uphill battle the Sonics are fighting, and all they seem to be doing is saying "give us what we want or else".

I'm with MCP on this one...as I stated in that post...this is about a failed contract with the city, not the stadium, I will let the current ownership group off the hook for not being the ones who signed the contract in the first place, but still, it just seems to me that the contract is where you should start not a new stadium, but:

200-300 million for a stadium is enough for any city planner to stand up and take notice of...this directly effects the pockets of large county contractors, city councilmen, the owners, etc...for this reason alone the deal will get done, this was the same issue w/ Safeco...

the problem I have is that all the improvements won't equal a better experience for the fan like I mentioned previously, Safeco&Qwest is such a better fan experience than the Dome, but Key Arena 2.0 won't be any better, in fact, I'm afraid the great sight-lines from the 300 level will be gone, and it'll turn into what happen when the Blazers moved from the Coliseum to the Rose Garden...loved the Coliseum....loved it....
