Gentlemen. Its the time of year when a Goose, Gander and Gosslings need to fly the coop for a little R&R. I will be gone for the next 9 days in a land of Maple syrup, Ben and Jerry's and the Vermont Lake Monsters Baseball. (Single A Affiliate of the Nationals)

I will not have internet connection and limited cell phone. I wish you all well for next week and will catch up soon with a Goose from the 802 post.

Fantasy Football 2.0

Goose has continued his 10 year streak of attempting to get me to coach this coming Fall. So you know what that means? Yep, Football season is around the corner. This will be the second year The Black Lodge will take our games to the World Wide Web, as Train will attempt to defend his title.

I've sent email invites to everyone that had email addresses listed in last years league. Same settings as last year, except one change... I've limited the playoff berths to only 4 teams. This way, we won't have any bottom-feeders upsetting teams in the playoffs due to a great matchup week.

We will discuss the best draft time at the links Tuesday night. I'm thinking a weekday night the last week of August. Thursday, August 30th looks like a strong candidate, with the season openers of College Football that evening. Everybody put their votes in the Comments here online if you have a day of the week preference. Casey, don't forget to formulate your kicker list before the draft.

Twilight Golf

So Joe was supposed to make a post Monday. Its now almost Friday and he still has his thumb up his you know what.

Who is up for Twilight Golf Tuesday? West Seattle? Say about 6pm?

This would not be considered a "Major" like the Bruno Kirby or Alec Guiness Memorial. We can call this the Dodge Charger Classic.

Goose in the 619 (Pt 2 and conclusion)

New Day, New San Diego based movie
On March 3, 1969 the United States Navy established an elite school for the top one percent of its pilots. Its purpose was to teach the lost art of aerial combat and to insure that the handful of men who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world. They succeeded. Today, the Navy calls it Fighter Weapons School. The flyers call it: TOP GUN.

Days 2 and 3 fell into a blur as I actually did a couple of days of work.

I did get a chance to tour the USS Midway. (Actual Goose pic). What a Monstrous Ship. I almost felt like standing on the side of the ship, staring out into the water, and throwing 2.0's dog tags out into the sea, accepting the fact that his being in California will mean that he is dead to me. A couple of Sprint folks were with me and didnt even chuckle when I sat in the Admirals office and said, What you should have done was land your plane! you don't own that plane, the tax payers do! Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash. You've been busted, you lost your qualifications as section leader three times, put in hack twice by me, with a history of high speed passes over five air control towers, and one admiral's daughter!

Travelling sans the Lodge is sometimes a barrage of quotes that go nowhere.

I did have a mishap on day #2, Stepping off of a curb into a pothole, I twisted my ankle. Massive swelling but I pressed on. My sock did not bleed ala Curt Schilling but I am a gamer. That didnt stop me from touring San Diego's Gaslamp district. Its like a mini Bourbon Street.

Gooses Final Observations of his latest trip to California

• The Sundress is a like the Holy Grail of Seattle, Seeing a woman in one is about as rare as a Bigfoot sighting


• The House of Blues in 3 Years will have gone the path of Planet Hollywood, and be extinct (Yet they make an excellent Jambalaya).


• Goose will make at least 1 pilgrimage to Cali to visit 2.0, and will try to bring the Lodge with him. Even through the Day 2.0 leaves, he will be dead to me


• Room Service rocks


• Non State Run Liquor Stores Rock as well. Picking up Rum in a Rite Aid is frickin awesome


• The Hooters in San Diego should be like the Top Echelon of all Hooters Girls (Matching the Hooters in Vegas). It should be like visiting a Hooters Hall of Fame. However I fount it to be simply average. This makes my Hooters City Tour 8 and counting. I did not pay for tit however I did get free tit with my purchase of Chicken Wings.
  
  

The Soapbox

Train, you are a real piece of work casually mentioning that the Lodge found it's "kryptonite". The only people that are MIA are you and your infamous draft pick. The Dude is always missing... at least until his Summer Break or if the NHL is being watching and/or discussed.

Note the facts... Saturday, May 12, 2007 was the last Casey sighting. Since then, Jimbo was stepping up with his India musings... until Corporate America crushed his soul again. And since Jimbo's last blog entry from Mumbai on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, the ONLY people that have posted and been active after that have been Goose, Devin and myself. Shawn's last post was back in April! (And we still haven't seen the "legendary" picture from his Bigger Dance Final Four debacle) And Train's last post was back before Shawn's!

And you really have no excuse since I'm in school, Goose has a family and is the "responsible" one of the Lodge (much like his Hannibal character should), and Devo is "expecting" a family AND getting married with the calendar year. Those would be full plates, my friends.

And while Jimbo has an excuse due to the aforementioned trauma of being raped by Corporate America... Casey, Dude & Train... you have none (Note: I'm leaving Shawn off because he's in the midst of his finals before graduating this month). Stepping down from my soapbox.

Golf Tournament Saturday

Since the Lodge is nearly dead again, with 3 no-hitters and 2 one-hitters in the last week, how long before we can have a Lodge discussion on season 3 of LOST?

The Season finale definately opened up some need for discussion (and we havent discussed it all season)

One option that is interesting if you want to play a nice course, Washington National is $49 with Cart after 4:30pm on Saturdays. Home of the Huskies? If not I'll find a a course and set up a 1pm or so tee time

I'm thinking the initial grouping of teams is as follows but is up for discussion

Team "Chewbacca" Goose, Jimbo, Joe, and Devo

Team "Bruno Kirby" Dude, Seatown, Train, and MCP

(Im not sure of Dude skill level)

18 holes Best Ball

Each member of the team will tee off, and the best shot of four will be used
The other members of the team will then pick their ball up and play from the spot of the best shot by their partner. This will continue until the ball is holed.
Rules can be discussed as per how many shots by each person must be used.

Gooses NFL Draft Review

So I decided to start my draft review with the Hometown Team. Then I give some thoughts and feedback on what I thought was a pretty interesting draft.
With the 1st pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, The Seattle Seahawks pick Deion Branch WR.
So obviously the Hawks have given up their 1st rounder for DB. I still like this trade and I think you have great depth at WR going into Camp. Look for DJ Hackett to press for the other starting WR spot opposite Branch.


2 - Josh Wilson CB, Maryland (5-9, 188);

At 1st I said. What the hell? Why draft an undersized CB when your needs are obviously elsewhere. Then I stepped back a little. This guy as a Junior ran a 4.25 40. That’s not a typo. 4.25. He is also NFL Bloodline, with his Dad being the blocking back for Earl Campbell. He is a solid player and his return skills are outstanding. I have always said. Special teams accounts for 14-20 Plays a Game for both teams (punts and kickoffs). I like the kid and think he will make a solid pro. He also provides insurance if Trufant leaves as a Free agent

3 - Brandon Mebane, DT, Cal (6-1, 305);
Big Solid run stuffer. Good value as a third round pick. If Tubbs cannot come back he adds great depth to the Dline.

4 - Baraka Atkins, DE, Miami-Florida (6-4, 308);
I scratch my head on this one. Why draft a DE this high when you have Kearney, Fisher and Tapp? Atkins is a monster specimen at 6-4 but he may have been available later

4 - Mansfield Wrotto, G, Georgia Tech (6-3, 316);



I LOVE THIS PICK. This was the Niners/Jackson trade pick. Wrotto is a HUGE Bulldozer who has a good career at GT. From what I have read he is smart, great work ethic, and loves football. His value dropped because he only played one year of OT while playing 3 at DT. Ran down a LB 40yds downfield after an interception to save a touchdown. I might go out on a limb here and say “Steve Hutchinson? Who is that?”

5 - Will Herring, LB/FS, Auburn (6-3, 226);
Big time player who is your classic “Tweener”. To big for a Safety and too small for a LB. Will need to get some size as I think you will see him more at LB. A gifted player without a position.

6 - Courtney Taylor, WR, Auburn (6-2, 204);
Taylor was listed as a Top15 WR. To get him in the 6th round is good. He was projected by some as high as 3rd round. Good Value. Should make the practice squad or catch on as the #6 WR

6 - Jordan Kent, WR, Oregon (6-4, 217);
We’ve all seen Kent play up the road. He has good size and good speed. Think Marques Colston with the Saints last year. Could have impact.

7 - Steve Vallos, OL, Wake Forest (6-3, 297)
Should add good depth to the O-line.


I still want to know why the hell they didnt draft a TE in Rounds 3-7. I know the top 3 were gone before they picked at 55. But come on. Fill a need





Now Hawks fans here is the bad news. Two teams that improved themselves greatly were the Falcons and Panthers. The Falcons got one of the top Guards (Justin Blalock, A top 5 Defensive and in Jamaal Anderson, and A top 5 corner in Chris Houston from Arkansas
The Panthers saw solid picks in Dwayne Jarret and John Beason (LB Miami)

Also having good drafts were the Bucs (Even after losing Calvin Johnson) and it hurts me to say, the Cowboys. The cowboys did nothing to improve themselves greatly this year but with two 1st rounders next year (Including a potential top10 pick from Cleveland) they are set to rebuild.

Other Random Thoughts

· Cleveland mortgaged its future for Quinn who I think will make a good pro for whomever the Browns coach is after this season
· Calvin Johnson will have more of an impact on the NFL in his 1st 4 year than Randy Moss’s 1st 4
· Speaking of Moss. Sad thing is he will clean up his image, win a Super Bowl with Tom Brady, and probably get into the Hall of Fame after being labeled as a Poor Pro Player. (See Corey Dillon). If he gets in before Art Monk I will call upon Brendon Frasiers Mummy to destroy Canton Ohio.
· “Throw me the Damn ball” was cut by the Panthers after interviewing Dwayne Jarrett and comparing Jarretts style to his own. The NFL is a Fickle little bitch.
