Don't Say that Word...

Originally, I was going to comment on watching "Land of the Dead" on Friday and Romereo's social commentary on the state of society and blah, blah, blah, blah...then subsequently I watched "Shaun of the Dead" three nights in a row (never finishing it completely each night, thanks to a lot of good pints, another story) and found that it might just be my favorit Z-word movie of all time:

Couple of criteria's-and a top 5 of Z-word films to try and get into the spirit:
1-Blood--there's no such thing as too much...and the further the spray the better the effect
2-More the merrier-the ratio of people to Z's should be at least 5,000 to 1, once again there is never too much and if they move quickly added bonus
3-Tools of the trade...nothing says finished quite like a sawed-off 12 guage going straight to the dome...this combined with criteria #1 has been a staple in Z films for a long time, but unfortunately you see way too much automatic fire in Z films, not nearly as interesting or entertaining as a cock and a cannon blast
4-The take down scene-you can't call it a good Z film unless you have the Thanksgiving feast of some poor unlucky soul...and the more detailed intestinal track the better here as well...
5-I'd like to thank the Academy-you can't call it a Z film into you have the over-the-top preformance from your very best C-actor...this is a big break, and if you want to be in that next Ron Howard film you better leave it all out on the table

So, having gave my 5 best criteria for rating a Z film, I will proceed on a 1 to 4 scale and rank my top 5:
5-Resident Evil(Joe, for your gift to me for your wedding, I want my copy back, you hear me!):
2 for blood, lots of armor not a ton of exploding plasma either, 3 for Z to Human ratio, in a confined area, couldn't really add a ton more, but good numbers, 2 for tools of the trade, even though nothing is hotter than Milla and a shotgun, way to many automatic AK's in the this one to make a good point, 3.5 for take down scene, can't remember the character's name, but it happens when they're waiting for an elevator with his back to it: and BAM!! memorable scene...and 4 goes to Michelle Rodriguez for playing Michelle Rodriguez at volume 11

Bonus Points: also goes out to RE for bringing back the genre, dead since early 80's and weighed down with a lot of crap movies, this made it ok to like again,
Bonus Points taken away: it came from a Video Game

Total Z Score: 14.5

4-Night of the Living Dead 1968-(Joe, you don't have this copy yet, but if you did I'd want it back)
1 for blood, 1968 and a budget of like $12.50 didn't allow for a lot of splurging, also the B&W format doesn't enhance the blood splattering or gore, but if we use the enflation effect of 1968 gore to 2005, then I think the appropriate score would've been at least 2.5...3 for ratio, once again budget limited the ratio, although some of the final scenes have a great ratio and considering they're out in the Enumclaw allows for a pass on this scale, the effect is made w/o having to hire a ton of extras...3.5...tools of the trade-no automatic AK's, but good hunting rifles make all the difference and don't uncredit normal everyday household gardening tools as effective weapons against the undead...1.5 for take down scenes, not really anything memorable here, but you still get the fear throughout the whole thing...1.5 for Oscar nod's, despite the D cast no one really goes overboard here, surprising I know, but 1968 had that touch of class I think

Bonus Points: 4 for orignality, unheard of concept being brought to the big screen, social commentary by Romereo on state of society in regard to politics and commericalism, still a landmark in independent filmaking and horror classic

Total Z Score: 16

3-28 Days Later-ok, ok...now this can be debated as not really a Z movie, but still a bunch of elements about the film that make it a must on the list
3-for blood, considering the whole concept was on blood infection, not biting makes it almost more of a medical sci-fi film, like Outbreak, but watchable, good effects on the blood despite cheap budget, still not a lot of explosion, but sometimes less is more...much like English Beer 3 for ratio, set in London good use of extras and the numbers definitely give you the fear 2-for tools of the trade, way too many automatics being used again although they do give some good non-gun kills which makes it re-watchable 2.5 for take down scene, this comes at the end when the Z being kept as a pet is released and goes after the rest of the militia, not a lot of gore, but comedy and just revenge ups the score 3-for Oscar performance from Naomie Harris (thanks IMDB) who played the other adult female sidekick to our main protaganist Jim(points for that too) really goes over the top and was looking for a give on the Graham Norton show

Bonus Points: 3 for the Prefontaine effect being added as another dimension to the undead...raised the level of fear and made the movie far more interesting...also props to Danny Boyle for doing an independent Z film on super 8...love the effect for the movie...true classic

Total Z Score: 16.5

2-Shaun of the Dead-yeah I know, but I think its that good...comedy, but meets enough of the criteria to prove itself a classic
3 for blood, good splats scenes in the begining with the big guy and woman in the back garden, followed by a cup of tea and some tele, continues throughout the film with the classic white shirt worn by Shaun 3-for ratio, even though early its a little light, by the end you definitely get the fear via windows and the small London streets 3.5 for tools of the trade, here's the deal: dogs can't look up and the gun above the bar is fully loaded, giving the only gun used in the film was classic Winchester rifle with a horrible shooter is a perfect effect, bonus points for the paddle, pool que's, records and various garden equipment 3.5 for take down scene of the overgrown Harry Potter roomate of Liz, taken from surprise at the window and good intestinal effect while each limb comes apart, quality scene 1.5 for Academy overacting, hey they're British, who's better at subtle comedy and drama than John Bull? low points here, except for the Harry Potter guy, but it actually raises the level of the film as a whole

Bonus Points: 3.5 comedy/horror is not easy, ask John Landis to re-create the magic of American Werewolf in London and it couldn't be done, classic quotable lines complete with good Z undertones and its one hell of a movie, also the Brits just have a better comedic timing when it comes a dark comedy...."Sorry Shaun"..."So, your heading to the Pub?"..."Dog's can't look up"..."I'll stop doing it when you stop laughing"...just to name a few, I'm becoming very big on this film if you can't tell

Total Z Score: 18

1-Dawn of the Dead 2004-couple of things, after writing this I'm not sure that I would'nt have put Shaun #1, but I think this a more fitting movie, we'll get to that in the bonus section
4-for blood and explosion of, great work with a modest budget, dug the makeup and the aging effect they put on the Z's as the movie progressed (definitely check out the bonus material on this movie) 4-for ratio, they filled the entire parking lot and it worked, completely believable, also the openinig neighborhood was also filled, good work all around on knowing that you can never hire enough extras for a Z film if budget allows 4-no automatics whatsoever involved, handguns, sniper-rifles(one of my favorite scenes) and of course Ving's 12 guage, the standard is set, this really is another great detail of the movie, plus the croquiet mallet in one of the first scenes of the mall also deserves mentioning 2-only memorable scene came before the credits with the girl and the husband, but that hold enough weight to give it any higher rating, one of the few things this film lacks in, damn you character development 3.5 for Academy recognition, between Ving Rhames, the rich guy with the boat, the young girl, the guy from Mind of a Married Guy and the truck driving old lady this film was chalked full of the best modern day C actors that money could by, not quite the humor of the original, but definitely deserves to be praised

Bonus Points: 4 the opening scene, good way to set the fear bar high and then work down, saw it in the theater and between the bathroom escape and Tercel driving to Cash's "When the Man Comes Around" could quite possibly be my favorite opening scene of all-time, yeah I just wrote that...good to see the MTV generation of quick edits and music finally be used for something positive aside from R Kelly video's of course...also, nothing get's me more excited then finishing the story in the closing credits...I like to have my stories wrapped up, not big on imagination
Bonus Points taken away: -2 for originality, every other movie on this list had a great original take on this genre, this just enhanced a great original story, with more Romereo social undertones and gave it to the kids to eat up...that being said, I can't take off too much because I do consider it the best Z movie of all time

Total Z Score: 19.5 I think

Honorable Mention: Oceans 12 and Matrix Revolutions
Hours of my life that I'll never get back: Day of the Dead, RE: Apocolypse, Z___e (Italian Film) and Return of the Night of the Living Dead

Sweep Home Chicago

To answer a previous blog, yes...it is too early to talk about Mariner baseball.

As a fan of the Chicago's South Side team for the past 15 years, I saw something happen yesterday that was just a joke or a way to get me upset by sayin' 'I don't see your White Sox winning World Series.' I can say I have seen it. The bastard children of the Chicago, baseball's second city.

It's funny, I would have thought that the early 90's team of Black Jack McDowell and Charlie Hough (Gosh, I love the knuckball), would lead this team to the promise land. Especially when Glenn Hibbard and rookies, Jason Bere, Jason Fernandez, and Wilson Alvarez were praised upon. Even when I first saw this team, before the Frank Thomas' and Robin Ventura's were up in the majors there were alot of deserving people would could have used a W.S. ring.

It took a loud mouth former Sox to bring them back from the dead. Ozzie, way to put a mind set in a ballclub that thought homers win you ball games. This team was better as a small ball type club. As soon as Magglio and Carlos Lee are gone, and Thomas went to the DL, things started chuggin' along.

I'm happy to see a team win the World Series that is virtually forgotten in their own town. The lowly Southside can now celebrate and let out 88 years of frustration. Seeing Jerry Reinsdorf practically cry and likewise with Kenny Williams was good to see. Somebody like King George just takes his trophy and adds it to the collection. This trophy, this year will be cherished.

Three cheers for my favorite team and the top of the baseball world for at least one year. I think they have earned it.

Do you think they will bring back baseball shorts and Disco Demolition night? What are your thoughts of the Series? Stros could have won any of those games but when the RISP are available, their bats were silent. Thoughts, comments, suggestions....

M's Coaching Vacancies

So the Mariner's need to hire new hitting and pitching coaches. Is it too early to talk about the M's 2006 season? Sweet rumor about Mel Stottlemyre possibly coming home to help out our pitching staff...

http://www.thenewstribune.com/sports/story/5284396p-4794401c.html

So what do you think? I'd love the addition of Mel. He's savy and will bring more experience to the table, pairing with "Grover", experience that the Mariners as an organization haven't seen since "Sweet Lou" was kicking dirt and throwing bases at Safeco Field.

This possible hitting coach doesn't excite me as much, though. The phrase -- "formerly a hitting coach for the Chicago Cubs and the Kansas City Royals" -- doesn't inspire good feelings. Not the best hitting clubs in the past few years.

Level II kick to the junk...

I have to say that any more of this , this or this in the period of 24-36 hrs and I'm done with the whole show (at least for a week or two)...seriously I can't take this level of losing and the Blazers haven't even started playing, but this doesn't look like a promising sign even though Nate Mac might finish his career as the greatest Blazer coach since Dr. Jack, sidenote: and does it really confuse anyone why he took that job, let's see: no matter what I do, as long as I keep my players out of jail, away from major drug busts and dog fights and go 5 games under .500 the city will erect gold statue's in my honor? oh yeah and I'm getting paid in the top 10% of coaches in the league? where the hell do I sign?...anyway, from this weekend: it was good to see this following sunday's game, good to know Parcells is still with me on kicker's getting the pink slip after missing 28yd field goals...and my god man...how many times do you see the team that's just happy to be there, 'stros and a team that's on a destiny march: sox and somehow we become surprised at the outcome, which brings me to today's top five: top 5 "just happy to be here vs. team on a destiny march" in a major championship, i.e. SB, WS, NBA championship, little league WS, etc...

1-New England vs. Chicago SB XX
perhaps the greatest mismatch ever if you leave out XXIV, which I'd include, but that wasn't a team on a destiny march, just a div I school vs. a NAIA squad, Tony Eason's of the world unite
2-UNLV over Duke 103-73 1990 Final Four
The best team that money can buy, probably could've contended with a majority of NBA squads, no not just for illegitimate kids and bad suits, but also for $ thrown down at strip clubs and per capita lap dances per player
3-Rockets '94-'95 over Magic Finals
the back of the back to back for Rudy's gang, matching a vetern Rockets squad w/ Hakeem at his pinnacle and a young Shaq not understanding how to guard outside the 5' box...this one brought teer's to the eye of a lifelong Blazer for Clyde to get a ring...hold it together, hold it together
4-2000 US Open a boy named Eldrick vs the entire golfing world
15 strokes largest major victory ever, pre-Swedish nanny, capturing the "Wooderson" effect by becoming the most dominant that he'll ever be right out of the box
5-(hahah) Dale Sr. 1998 Daytona vs. Darrell and his other brother Darrell
Fastest finishing time of 172.712 mph in 18 years at Daytona, and that didn't even come close to the amount of beers drank per fan during the actual race

Ok, I've laid my junk on the table let's see yours sweethearts and remember there are 1/2 points for second best...at least in Fantasy...

We have a pulse

Sorry for the inactivity as of late, the Wi-Fi situation at 4831 has become the Brandon Lidge of wireless routers, I get about 2/3rds of a connection...to go with Mother Goose in announcements, it is slowly becoming official that I will be a homeowner(has better ring than condo-owner) as of 11.11.05...it's going to be a big move all the way up 2 blocks to the top of the hill...but that being said, we now have an official Casa on the Westside to roam about with a little more comfort than the aparment called a condo......please refer anyone you know that wants an aparment to me, we are still holding on to it and need renters, the bonus is the tv and sound system will be staying....enough self-promotions "moo-da-chains.org"...I'll be back later to get to some topics and get this blog fired up again....

You heard it here 1st

Wanted the boys to be the 1st to know. After 10 years of coaching (2 pop warner and 8 at newport), Mother Goose is hanging up the whistle at the end of the season. Wanting to spend more time with family and friends is the main reason, as football is such a huge commitment.

Look at it this way. I have been in Seattle since 1996 and have never been to a Husky game.

In 8 years I have had 4 playoff years and 7 consecutive winning season. I also leave as the winningest coach in Newport Jr Football history with 43 wins. Hows that for a stat?

Jimmy and Train. The season we all coached together was still a highlight. That was a great year.

The Men's Warehouse Weekend Sale

I know some in this blog, me included could care less about the NBA but I had to bring this up. Who has a problem with a Dress code in the NBA? I sure don’t. The NBA is a business and most business that I know of has dress codes. It is about time these guys grow up and realize that want all this respect they have to act like they deserve respect. I remember back in the day with the likes of Magic and Jordan those cats would always be dressed to the nines. Seemed like there was in unwritten rule that you take pride in your team and the league. I got to think that maybe the influx in youth in the league and the ME attitudes that are so prevalent in this league has caused the Keebler Elf himself (D. Stern) to look at a new way to market this game to the people like myself who gave up on it about 5 years ago to see maybe they are trying to bring some respect back. He has to do what he can cause after all we are only talking about a Business and last time I checked if people don’t want to see your goods, your business won’t last that long.

the Hammer getting hammered...

Did anyone see the Ken Hamlin story? Check it out if not... http://www.komotv.com/stories/39783.htm . This brings up many questions. Would this happen if they had a 1 o'clock game? Should players be out that late? I think he is a grown man and can do what he wants but should he have put himself in check when approached by some thugs?

What are your thoughts? Is the Seahawk season lost now that this has happened?

The Pork Chop Express

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

For all the Jack Burton fans out there. Check this out... http://www.wingkong.net

ALCS champs

While Shaun Alexander was doing the sprinkler and scoring for the third or fourth time, the White Sox were playing for the American League Championship. Behind the fourth complete game by a fourth different starter, the White Sox literally go into the World Series on their starting pitching. There hasn't been a time in our recent memory where we have seen four consecutive complete games.

So now the question is, who will pose a better Series. Houston - They have come alive with there timely hits and have a great pitching. St. Louis - a battered up starting rotation and some nagging injuries have really done St. L in. I would say Houston on the account that pitching and the style of ball. We don't have to worry about 12 homers in one game. Well I have had enough...this is The Dude from the classroom!

Qwest Field Domination….

Oh, I bet you thought I meant the Seattle Seahawks or the Seattle Sounders. Well you would be dead wrong. For one chilly October afternoon the Jeff Serling led Newport Knights provided a free clinic to the visiting Houston Texans. The Knights crushed a local Puget Sound team who we still don’t know the name of due to the fact that there jerseys were blown off due to high winds caused by Knights running back running rough shod over them. With an effective ground game that left Dominic Davis of the Texas saying “Man I would love to run behind these Hogs” and David Carr’s father was seen looking for Newport’s GM hoping for face to face discussions concerning a possible sign and trade deal for his son. Carr’s father was quoted after the scrimmage “My boy could really put up some big numbers in this offense”. The real highlight of the day had to have been the coaching job by Jeff Serling and his coaching staff. Mike Holmgren was watching with great interest “Jeff doesn’t feel he needs to script his plays he just has a feel for the game and he has the ability to adapt his defense to any situation, I am going to keep an eye on him”. Serling really felt there was only one problem with the game, the officiating but he stopped short of commenting on the situation due to the leagues history of fines for such comments on there officials. All in all it was a banner day for the Knight’s who will look to keep the engine revved as the head back to the eastside to finish out there league play…

Thanks for all the fun Goose. And good luck to your team as you finish out the season.

Home Bloggin' with the CS

(here goes one hack's attempt to duplicate the SG's ramblin's)So...being a self-described baseball hater, I find myself intrigued with this year's post-season...main reason why: having 4 NL style teams battlin' for the crown is my dream...strikeout's and home runs are facist...best play in baseball on offense is still the squeeze play...defense? triple play...it's the equivalent to stopping a football team at the 1 on 4 downs, but quicker....best development of post-season? Sweet Lou in the booth, please...don't ever manage another team, I need this through the entire next season...comment of the night: Mark Mulder on Russ Springer ('Stros pitcher) I could never hit that...it looks like its mass high, but it just drops dude...friends don't let friends spend too much time around Barry Zito...is Orlando Cabrera the next David Justice?...back to Sweet Lou: take a moment to imagine him and Red Fairley in booth together w/o any parental supervision..."he'd like to have that one back...he sure would Lou: and I think he'd look for a ball over the plate so that they could score a run and win the game here"....you think Ozzie Guillen has Hal McRae on speed dial?...dear god: Pedro Astacio is alive and yes he hasn't seen a barber since the last time you saw him...I can't say I'm rooting for any particular team, save the 'Stros, but here's some player's that I'm a big fan of (not necessarily in order) 1) Mark Buerhle: I like to think of myself as the Buerhle/Maddox of the whiffle ball world, maybe complete with the hockey beard, always a good call 2) Vlad Guerreo...two words: piss hands, a couple of more words: I put my pants on one leg at a time, but when I do it, I make Pine Tar...3) Lance Berkman, can you seriously see him playing for any other team than the 'Stros?....uh oh...play of the nigh: AJ Pasklfj;akljf;ajsdfkja;sffkjas;kfjski creating the Scoscia face, which looks like knowing the guy your playing NCAA against is letting you back in the game, because the Horeshoe has hime giving 6...oh man, this just went down as the greatest Vegas take I've ever seen...unbelievable call in the white sox game...you think it played out like the end of Bourne Identity? with Selig making the call to the head of the Umpire Union..."shut it down"..."Treadstone?" that was just a simulation program, never got off the ground...thanks for reading I promise to do better next time....

Thoughts on game 1 on the ALCS

Okay, so Game 1 didn't go as well as I had hope. The Anaheim Angels (sorry I refuse to recognize that they are LA) were on a high from beating the mighty Yankees. They simply played better than the Sox. Pitching wasn't an issue. Conteras didn't pitch that bad, well except that pitch to Anderson. The defense was a little suspect and the Sox weren't aggressive on the basepaths. Come on!!! Scotty P on base and two outs, will it kill you put him in motion? Ozzie obviously had a ALDS hangover and should have been sharper. I hope tonight's game will fair a lot better. Time will tell. I have to say pitching is an issue with the Angels but it's not as bad as people perceive because of that great bullpen, who didn't even work that much last night. So I'm nervous and so is every White Sox fan. How is this going to end. It's a like a good '24' storyline. I can see the clock ticking....

Seahawks walk into St Louis

Yesterday, the Seahawks went into St. Louis' Edward Jones Dome and took care of business. I just want to say the Rams defended their home turf like the St. Louis Cardinal of old, but that isn't the point of this blog. The Hawks went in there with a banged up squad and if karma wasn't enough, they left even more banged and bandaged. Usually with a game like this Bobby Engram and Darrell Jackson would have a great game, but the unlikely heros...DJ Hackett out of Colorado and JoJar out of Penn State. For Florida State fans, Peter Warrick wore his jersey and was an 'X' on the field during a few plays. I guess Holmgren thinks he still has Koren Robinson. But JoJar Binks had a great 9 catch afternoon and Hackett caught his first NFL pass. The defense got enough stops and Shaun had a stellar game even catching some balls out of the backfield. The question is: will this team play this flawlessly against the Cowboys or even the Texans on Primetime? For this fan, I hope so. Matty H. has had put together a great last 4 games (3-1) putting his team in position to win in all four games. Expectations are going to be high for this team now that they are in sole possession of first place in the NFC West. Please don't forget though that Bryce Fisher is a starting end and Marcus Trufant is a corner. I won't even mention people like Kelly Herdon who needs a road map out there to play defense. Well a sucessful Week 5 for the boys in Blue...let's keep it goin' boys!

White Sox Nation Rejoice!!!

Well...I didn't think this would happen so soon, but since it did...HOORAY!!!! The Sox took out the champs in 3 straight games. With the exception of game one, the Sox did it their way, close, heart stopping and suspenseful. El Duque came up huge in Boston and Bobby Jenks has turned out to be a god send in the last two weeks of the season. I hope the momentum carries on into the next round. Who knows, maybe it's the new baseball trend - let those teams who haven't won in years come back and celebrate a championship. Up next - the Montreal Expos...well perhaps not all franchises use to losing.

Still Kind of Hot for the Chick...

Finally I can get behind a canidate for '08 !

"Well, at one time, you've got it, and then you lose it, and it's gone forever. All walks of life: George Best, for example. Had it, lost it."

I didn't want to title the post, "jumping the shark" or "when Robert Patrick enters a drama"...but I figured the title quote will do. So, after watching the third episode of Lost season 2 last night and reading the comments of CSI, the Wing, etc...started thinking about how every TV show or any continuing annual entertainment vehicle inevitably hits the pinnacle and then slowly dwindles to something of a caricature of its former self, and how long can you milk the cash cow before destroying your franchise. Memorable examples of this phenommenon that I will call the "Robert Patrick effect" are:

1) obviously X-files post David D.
2) Wing post Lowe and Sorkin
3) Star Wars post Solo
4) Cowboys post Johnson
5) Bugs post Blanc
6) me post flava-sava

The point: can you actually notice when this is happening, and does it come down to one exact moment where you know the "Robert Patrick effect" just took hold of your seriers or whatever. Or is it more a gradual desceleration that eventually ends with "Jonie loves Chachi?"
I'm not about to label Lost with the Patrick tag quite yet, still a little early and with the addition of Adebese from OZ, we could have the UC scale go through the roof, but for some reason I'm not sensing that it will. Now if only we could get Beecher, the other Siad, O'Reilly and McMannus on the island we could contend with the CSI takeoffs.....OZ: Love on the Island with a Cocunut.
So I suggest you name your top five Patrick Effect moments of all time in any genre. And allow me to ridicule and make light in a satirical way.

Hasty decision

Looks like there is word coming out of Mont lake that the UW might get some playing time to our very own J.R. Hasty, he is making some plays in practice that are catching the eyes of Willingham. Hey and it is not like they don’t need an injection of youth and talent (yeah, he’s not an athlete his is a football player). But then again we knew the kid was going on to bigger and better things when he was only 12. I still remember the look on those kids faces in the one on one tackling drills when they knew they were going to have to go up against Hasty. I call it the Hasty Face. I hope to see that face a lot from opposing players in the upcoming seasons.

Thursday Bulletin Board Material

Supposedly WR's now is the toughest position in the NFL, who knew?

KIRKLAND -- Torry Holt called Marcus Trufant one of the best young cornerbacks
in the league Wednesday. He said Ken Hamlin and Michael Boulware could become
one of the NFL's best safety tandems. The St. Louis Rams wide receiver did
everything but blow kisses toward the Seahawks in a telephone conference call
with Seattle reporters, but he didn't apologize for his comments regarding the
Rams' mental toughness -- and the Seahawks' lack of it -- while serving as an
ESPN analyst at the NFL draft. "I was basically saying that we do have a mental
edge against that bunch because we were able to beat them three times in one
year," Holt said. "It could have been Cincinnati. If we beat them three times in
one year, you're going to feel you have some type of edge over a particular
squad." Do the Rams feel they're carrying that mental edge this season? "That
was last year, and it's over and done with," Holt said. "This is a different
year. Again, I have a tremendous amount of respect for the Seattle Seahawks, and
their ballplayers and that coaching staff and how they get their players to play

-personally nobody loves bulletin board material more than I, in fact I'd like to call out former Duck Safety Keith Mitchell from '02 calling out Reggie and Pickett and calling them soft meanwhile the game ended with a 40 something to 10 something drubbing and a dance on the 50 (aww it's like none of that even happened), but come on Holt your kiling me--I can't respect receivers who fall to the ground a yard after the catch...you say what you want about TO, I've seen the guy take some hits, can't say the same for Moss, Holt, Bruce even Harrison, Wayne, FedEx...I just can't follow talk about mental toughness, (whatever that is exactly: that's a separate post) when a player who has had "soft" label on him since draft day...

Don’t I know you Brother?

It is about time that we take a little diversion from the MLB pennant race. We have to get a discussion going about the best network show on television. Yeah, I said network TV so the HBO kids don’t get all upset.

After watching the first three episodes I find my self asking more and more questions. I have never been so engrossed with a show like this. At First I thought this was going to be Giligans Island meets Lord of the Flies. Now we are on the verge of Resident evil meets Heart of Darkness. The Dude(and whoever hasn't seen it) needs to take a day or two off and watch the first season so we can get a discussion going. This must be talked about in the Black Lodge. I don’t know where the rest of you kids stand on this but if you haven’t seen it you need to.

Hey...the Sports Guy is on a book tour. Do you think he'll come to Seattle? I think his book is called...Now I can die happy. Pretty funny. It should be a hilarious book.

Joe Torre?

Is it me or does Joe Torre look like he'll turn into the Hulk at any time. I was watching the game and he looks like the animated Hulk in the movie. I just thought it was kinda funny.

Is this the year for Chicago?

I have to say, I'm the biggest ChiSox supporter in the group. I was listening to David Locke today and he was sayin' this team is like the '84 Tigers with Gibson and Evans...I don't remember that team so I don't really understand the reference. The only thing I did get out of it was that Detroit won the title in 84.

I have to say this is the best rotation the Sox have had since the days of Black Jack McDowell, Greg Hibbard, Wilson Alvarez, and Jason Fernandez. With Conteras, Garland, Buerle and El Duque, and Freddy, this group is pretty darn good. The bats are a concern and talking to baseball experts last night (Jim and Jordan) that the Sox shot all their weapons last night. Perhaps that is true. Konerko and Dye are the main weapons. They have a lot of role players that I didn't notice until the Cleveland series. This showed me some heart going into Cleveland and sweep the favored Tribesmen.

I won't the say the Sox are going to win the World Series. They have an uphill battle with the BoSox. They had a good start last night. They have the pitching but do they have the bats. I think the same story goes for Houston. Great pitching but questionable bats.

Well I should go back and teach...Any comments will be greatly appreciative.

Expect more snow in the South of Hell

Not that this by any means puts me in the same mood I've been in on Saturday nights for the last month in a half, but...what kind of deal has Romar made? And is this the sports god's repayment for the last four years of what's been presented as Husky football?
